There was a time when visiting a mall meant certain stores acted like foundations that other stores…read morewould pop up around. East Meets West is one such store. Whether it's this mall or Woodbridge, "East Meets West" is a fun store to visit. I generally go here to get incense but they have so much more than that. Their other offerings include various Hamsas you can hang up, crystals, rocks, sage kits, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, charms, dream catchers and more. It doesn't matter if you believe in the various spiritual beliefs represented by this store, some of this stuff is just pretty decor. The store is basically a rectangle with shelves and islands in the middle. The cashier is off to the right in the middle. The cashier I dealt with was super friendly and I saw her helping the customer before me with a great deal of patience. This store used to be on the first floor, but they moved up to the second floor and as part of that move they upgraded the decor a bit. There's a fun neon sign at the entrance and a gigantic dream catcher hangs in one window with other items. Before you even walk in the store front seems to promise a unique store experience in a mall mostly dominated by department stores and clothing shops. I wound up getting some "short" incense that were nicely priced (20 for $5 I believe). I also bought a sticker for $2. "East Meets West" is a classic part of the mall experience and I definitely recommend dropping by!

Today was my second time coming to Embroidery Place. I needed to get 3 Christmas stockings embroidered and a baby blanket. The guy behind the counter was helpful and quick. There are about 12 or more fonts you can choose from and maybe 20 font colors. You write what you want on a piece of paper and he shows you on his computer screen so that you can confirm spelling and font preference- this is great for making sure there are no mistakes! The items I was having embroidered were bought outside of this store, however you can purchase an assortment of basics from here. I believe they also do other personalization techniques like adding graphics and letters onto tshirts although I have never gone here for that, so I can't speak to the quality. The man told me he should be done within an hour (on a Sunday!) and my family and I went to eat and made another quick stop at a store, by the time we were finished, he was ready. The quality is great and exactly what I expected after seeing it on his computer screen. The pricing was a little higher than I expected, but reasonable, $12 per stocking and $15 for the baby blanket. I am happy with the end result and do not mind what I paid. People may say embroidery is easy because it's done by machine, but I've seen some bad embroidery at other places and haven't had any issues here! 4.5/5

New Market is a literal market and the owners allow many women and minority owned businesses to sell their products. The owners also have an event space around the corner where they host parties. The location couldn't get any better. It's downtown Metuchen. Street parking for 50 cents and there is a parking garage conveniently located around the corner. They do craft nights and I'd definitely recommend stopping in to shop and support the small businesses.
