Augie's Shoe Service - Will last forever

    Augie's Shoe Service

Augie's Shoe Service has Sole!…read more I love my husband, but sometimes he can be gloriously oblivious. He came home from the office, settled into the chair across from me, crossed his legs--and suddenly his shoes began telling their story. The soles were practically crying for mercy, while the uppers looked like they had been through a long, hard negotiation with the sidewalk. He mentioned he'd been meaning to go shoe shopping, but hated the thought of giving up the comfort he'd earned breaking these shoes in. That's when I reminded him about Augie's Shoe Repair--the place that brought two pairs of my own "beyond saving" shoes back from the brink. Super wife to the rescue. True to form, Augie worked his magic again. The shoes came back looking remarkably close to brand new. Of course, the soles and heels were replaced as requested, but he didn't stop there. The uppers were refinished, refreshed, reinforced, polished, and even finished off with new laces. It was less shoe repair and more shoe revival. Augie's pride in his craft shows in every detail. He continues to be our household shoe superhero. If he can keep us from buying--and breaking in--new shoes, we'll be very happy soles.

In examining my shoes, he tore off the soles insisting that the whole sole would have to be removed to be reglued. When I dropped off my bundle on Saturday, I also had a leather watch stitched for another $10. I was told to pick up my repairs the following Wednesday after completing a card that included name and phone number. I planned around the pick up day to be in the area of the shop. Not one pair of shoes had been repaired, no phone call to state that but the owner was rude and aggressive when I explained that I didn't want to run up and down the road burning gas on his schedule after he gave me the day to be there. His rudeness started with he was was running a business and his comments ignored my inconvenience. Two other customers came in; one commented to him that there was a tear on his boot that hadn't been there to which the owner was curt; another lady brought in a pair and questioned why he didn't take cards for payment in light of the fact that he requires 50% of the repair and wanted it in cash. They debated back and forth with the woman indicating the safety of not carrying cash and that everyone uses cards. He insisted that it would cost the customers to pay by card. I had already given him $80 for my 50%. When he became as rude as he was with a "you people" comment, I asked him what people; the people who are paying for a service that pays his rent and keeps his lights on. The bottom line is that I did get my unrepaired shoes and my $80 and left. I am in the market now for another repair shop. Could someone get the original owner back here from Florida?
