We like to stop at Paul's Kitchen when we travel through Wauchula. It's got lots of fried food but also a few grilled items, too. Not a fancy place, in fact a little on the old Florida funky side but for those of you who like a little of that you might want to try it. Today they had lots of specials at reasonable cost especially given the portion sizes. I ordered grilled chicken and shrimp, yellow rice and green beans. All good, but they really believe in butter. Not necessarily a bad thing, just be forewarned. My husband had chicken parmigiana on a bed (king size bed!) Of spaghetti and got enough to feed 3 people. He said it was very good. Note, the chicken was not typical; it was crispy fried chicken cutlet, but tasty. And on another trip I ordered sweet potato fries. They had some kind of flour coating on them. So I've learned to ask questions before I assume things here. The best part is enjoying the feel of a local non-chain restaurant where most of the guests seem to know each other. Oh, and for you sweet tea drinkers, they have the real thing.

We've visited lots of small diners as we've traveled around the USA. They're much more fun than chain restaurants and you never know what to expect. Paul's Kitchen is off the main drag. It's what used to be a house. There's a private lot off the side and a sign in front. We parked in the back of the lot figuring we'd leave via the alley in the back. Well, be careful of that. The potholes are huge and I do mean HUGE down that alley and there are lots of those deep potholes. There were four of us for dinner. We sat for a while before we were asked about drinks. Servers weren't particularly friendly. Normally your small diners have the friendliest of servers so we were a little surprised at the cool personalities. Other than a long wait for our drink order to be taken and no offer of refills, service was okay. At our table there were orders for catfish and shrimp and also for their philly cheesesteak sandwiches. The meals came with soup, salad, potato, rice, corn and your main entree. It was quite a feast. Soup was pretty bland and salad was nothing special. However, catfish and shrimp were very good. Daily specials were handwritten and added to the menu. Unlike other small local diners, this one did accept credit and debit cards.

Found this little place and wasn't sure what to expect. Make sure you are VERY hungry because they give you alot of food. The stuffed fish was awesome and it comes with 3 sides as well as soup & salad for less than $10. I didn't read the reviews until after i ordered and i wish i had tried their fried green tomatoes, guess I'll have to come back and try them next time;)

My husband said it was the best club sandwich he ever had. Potato soup was real good. My Philly steak was real roast beef!! Real nice servers and the place was very clean.

My boyfriend and I recently dined at Paul's Kitchen. We were in town for a friend's wedding and were looking for a local spot to eat! We found this place and it had solid reviews so we decided to check it out. We walked up and the reviews weren't kidding, it does look like a house! We actually missed it and had to turn around haha we walked inside and the decor is kind of a mish-mosh of items, but I kind of loved it to be honest. It's definitely a casual location and seems to have its regulars that all the servers knew. The waitress recommended me an item, I honestly had to pick at it. It was so heavyyyyyy. I think it was called the farmers skillet. It had gravy and gravy and more gravy. The eggs were good, but I really couldn't eat too much of it. I also never received the biscuit! I was really looking for it as a way to break up the heaviness and the waitress never stopped by during our meal for me to ask. Overall, it was a small thing but I think it would've made the meal better for me. The coffee was actually really good in my opinion! The waitress was nice, but halfway through someone else started serving us so that also got kind of confusing haha my boyfriend actually really liked his meal which is why I'm ultimately giving this location 3 stars. All in all, I wish I had ordered something different so maybe I would've liked this place more. There aren't a lot of options in this town so I would recommend this location, but feel free to look around as well!

The food is terrible and the service was worse... two stars only because the soup was magnificent.

We enjoy going to Paul's. Biggest and best chicken sandwich you'll find. Some of the best soup also, which comes with all meals.

Most plates were like less than $10 and usually came with two sides and bread. I had their hamburger steak meal. The meat was cooked perfectly. I asked for (medium rare). The mashed potatoes were really-really good (not Instant)! All for ten dollars. BTW, you may read in the reviews that they only take cash. That was true until about six months ago. Now they do take credit cards with and 3% service charge. I'm only visiting in Wauchula for a little while, but God Willing I'll be back before leaving town.

It has several privately owned restaurants that are solid, and this is one of them. I love a good breakfast so off I went! Arriving- These fine folks are on the outskirts of the city on Route 17 South. They are super easy to find. Depending on which way you come in, you'll be driving by citrus groves, cucumber fields and cattle ranches. If you're really lucky, you might see a bear! They are in a dilapidated plaza with no presence at all, but parking is plentiful and easy. Pro Tip- Route 17 might freak you out a little. It's a divided highway but it's divided by 1000 feet of homes and businesses! Often you can't see the other lanes! Atmosphere- There is none. It's an old building with old fixtures and furniture. There are many booths with hard, uncomfortable wooden seats with no padding. Can you say, "Butt ache!" Pro Tip- CASH ONLY so come prepared! Customer Service- Excellent! My server had worked there for 8 years and was a pro and it showed! Food- Stand southern, American menu with no surprises. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelet with potatoes plus coffee. It cost me $12.80 pre-tip. The coffee was hot and good. The potatoes were piping hot and not greasy. The omelet had plenty of fillings, but they were all packed in the middle with empty ends and that annoys me a little. However, it was very good, and the overall breakfast was solid. This is a hard one to rate for me. It probably should be 3.5. There are plenty of places nearby with a better atmosphere and equally solid food. I'm going with four stars because of the stellar service. Just remember to bring a pillow for your butt!

My only complaint about the food is they use Instant potatoes. So, I pass on the mash potatoes. But, their collards greens and other sides are really good. I should mention that their prices are really fair. Like, two piece fried chicken dinner for less than $10. Includes great fried chicken, two sides and bread.
