I am a bit delayed in posting this review for work Paul did last fall. He and his sons did great work at a fair price. They removed an uneven brick side yard and replaced it with concrete that properly slopes away from the foundation. He came up with a creative solution to resurface the entry steps and cut the cured concrete so it looks like slate pieces. Very happy with the result! read more

I am currently looking for a cement contractor. I found Paul's, I looked at the reviews but decided to move forward. After a couple days after contacting him he called. He was gruff and rude so I hung up on him. He called back and apologized, we texted and had an appointment early Monday which he never called. Wasting my time! I should have heed the reviews. I won't pursue using this company but I will find a contractor that I respect. read more

Last month I needed some basement and garage walls repaired. Paul's crew did a great job! The walls are now dry and smooth, and the crew was so diligent in cleaning up all their debris that the basement and garage are now cleaner than when they started. Worst experience ever. The craftsmanship is horrible. We hired him early spring 2016 to fix the side of our house and he butchered the job. We asked him to fix multiple times and had other masonry contractors, that were licensed and bonded, look at Paul's work and they said it needed to be re-done. HE IS NOT LICENSED. What can I say about cement work - had a couple of projects with these guys. One in my south Philly back-yard where and one on the staircase coming to the house. The first one was done a couple of years ago and still looks great. I shopped around the first time and they were one of the lowest priced for the project. The second project was done today and I am still waiting for it to harden but so far so good:) On both jobs he came with a big crew and was in and out very quickly, both jobs required moving though the house and they came in with tarps so our floor will not be messed by the cement. Paul is a little rough around the edges (well very rough around the edges) but gets the job done with good prices and prompt work. read more

We had a terrible 800 square foot dirt floor basement with stone walls covered in crumbling lime. This is typical of Philadelphia rowhomes but our energy contractor said it was bad news, both in terms of controlling humidity and us breathing in mold. I had Paul's crew pour my basement floor and re-parge the walls. Despite the low profile, Paul Cement Work is not a small operation - there were at least 6 guys on the site at one point. They were very respectful of our home and kept the chaos to a minimum. They somehow managed to parge some areas of our walls I found difficult to reach even with a paint brush. The air down there is noticeably better. I was very impressed with the work they did and would hire them again. read more

I found Paul's on Angie's list which is my go-to source for home services. I needed my front sidewalk replaced with new concrete. Paul's crew turned up to breakup the old concrete and was considerate of my neighbors by starting at a reasonable hour in the morning. They were able to frame the walk and pour the concrete the same day. They paid attention to the finishing details and put up barriers around the new concrete. The sidewalk turned out great. I'm pleased every time I go outside. They cleaned up after they were finished and were careful with my front lawn. The cost for the project was reasonable. I highly recommend Paul's for any concrete job you have. read more

Can I give a zero star rating? We used Paul and Sons a year or two ago to have the back yard cemented. They came in and tore up the terrible job another contractor did and put down a NICELY cemented foundation all in one day. Fast forward to this summer. After a bad winter, We now need the front stairs and landing redone. Paul and Sons was the first place we thought to call. However, after a month and a half of giving me the run around, I am over them. It took two weeks for them to actually show up for an estimate. Once they came, they left a card showing they came but failed to give a written estimate as promised. I called and of course they said they would call me back in a couple hours. After not hearing from them in three hours, they said they were too busy to take my call and would call the next day. After no call, I called again and they said they would call in an hour once they were in the office. Again, no call. At this time, I asked my wife to call thinking maybe they would respond to a woman. Well, once again we get the brush off. Whoever answered the call said they don't know anything about the business and Paul was BUSY on yet another call. I don't know what the problem is, but I will no longer recommend these guys to my friends and won't be calling on them anymore. Bad business. read more

We'd been getting water in our basement for months and had been working with our builder as our house is still under the builder's warranty. We wanted a second opinion about the reason for why we're getting water. I made clear that there may not be work in it for Paul as we may have to use our builder's contractor. Despite this, he came to our house and gave us his professional assessment of the issue at hand and solutions. A formal assessment would be a reasonable charge, but this was free. He was really helpful and explained things in a clear, helpful way. Our builder is having us use his guy, so Paul basically did this for free. Great customer service. I had a wonderful experience with Paul and Paul's Cement Work. We needed new cement blocks and a curb build up after a pipe repair in our new home. Paul answered my phone call on a Sunday evening, arranged to give me an estimate very early the next morning, and completed the work before I even got home from work that day. Paul asked great questions to clarify exactly what I wanted over the phone since I was at work when he stopped by and performed he work exactly how we requested. Paul's Cement Work is a family run operaton that dates back more than fifty years, and though the operative word is "cement," the work I had done involved the laying of a brick patio. Paul himself was helpful in designing and reconfiguring the area, and along with a six member crew executed the task with consumate skill and efficiency. The entire crew was consistently polite and gracious, not to mention patient when they had to vacate the premises during those times when my dogs had to occupy the garden. As a customer, one of my major requirerments is being able to communicate with those doing work for me. Paul and his crew excelled at this. Airy. 5 minutes before he was to show up, I received a call saying that he was in an accident 2 hours prior. My whole gripe is that he did not call me prior to me leaving work liter all, costing me time and $$. We hired Paul to fix the cracked stucco on the side wall of our house. He did a very quick job and the quality was poor. A year later, there are leaks in the house that are worse than before he came to do the job. We had him come back and reassess the job and he wouldn't admit that he had done anything wrong and he also got very defensive. We believed we were overcharged for this job and now we have to think of something else we can afford with the money we have left to fix the wall. We won't be using Paul's services again. read more

i hired paul to fix one sidewalk block, i had a water leak in the basement... he said he'd be there in two weeks, by the third weekend i thought he wasn't coming, but monday morning at work he called to say he had done the job.. at first i was elated, it wasn't easy to get a hold of someone to do the work (maybe because the job was so small, i don't know) it even looked ok at first, but as the days went on i could see the color wasn't consistent (he said it hadn't cured yet and in a few weeks it would be all white), it had grey spots.. he told me i should have told him what kind of finish i wanted, which i have no idea of, and he did the job without talking to me and asking me... the cement over the water meter is a bump, not a smooth transition, they didn't saw a line, just pushed the cement over the next block and it was already easy to pull up, it looks terrible and the first thing i saw that made me think this was a cheap fast job, and it looked it when i first complained to him on the phone, he said, oh, i know what this is, you were never going to pay me anyway this is ludicrous, when he came over yesterday to look at it i had the $650 in my purse i've had a lot of work done at my house, i've never not paid anyone and if it's good work i always pay them more he told me it looks fine, i pointed out what i saw, he defended the work and didn't agree with anything i said he left and called back to me "i won't see you in court, but i'll see you.." i asked him if that was a threat and he told me yes.. i filed a police report, i have someone else already that came and pointed out everything i saw including that the water pipe should have been lowered so the side walk was even (like my neighbors 15" away) i have to get it done over and i won't be paying paul anything god knows what he'll do when i tell him i'm not paying him, he has already tried to bully and threaten me, but that doesn't change the poor work that was done read more
