The wife found this restaurant online and with her being a veggie centric kind of person, we had to…read morecheck it out. I don't discriminate and therefore eat anything and everything, so I'm all for some veggies and fresh/raw foods. I dare say that I may even be a part time vegan, emphasis on the part time. I think that we got there some time around lunch and it seemed like they were in the middle of a lunch crowd rush. The wife and I looked at the menu items for the day and eventually we were able to be served. I think that there were only 2 people working there and the service was a little chaotic. Most tables were occupied and it took us some time to figure out how he place was run. Basically you order at the counter and take a seat and once your food is ready, they bring it to your table. The wife ordered the Tibetan mama, which was a curry dish and I got a mushroom dish but I forgot the name of it. Every ingredient was perfectly prepared and the flavors really popped in every bite. This was probably the most memorable meal that we had while in Belgium. It definitely stood out for quality and flavor. If you are a vegan hipster, there will be at least one place for you to eat in Ghent. Of course I kid, actually Ghent is known for it's vegetarian culture. At least that's what our hotel travel guide told us. The wife and I would definitely return to Le Botaniste, in fact, we were both sad that we didn't get a second meal here before we we left Ghent. Great flavor for food

My beautiful Bride was extra excited because of this sign (in the pic I posted) at the entrance. "Food is Medicine", has been a mantra of hers for the last few years. This place has such a cool and unique look inside and just feels good to be in. The people working there were very kind and super helpful, and everything we tried was delicious. If you're in Ghent, take a break from the fries and stop here!

't Oud Clooster - Chicken with curry sauce and smoked fish salad. All restaurants in Brussels and Ghent charge 6-9 Euro for water, it seems. We ordered wine.

The restaurant is in the middle of town within a few blocks to the main town square. The menu has pictures of the nunnery attire, maybe how they brewed their own beer? They only had it in Dutch, no English menu. Food: 3/5. Bland food, which is not uncommon for Flemish cuisine, but meat was also quite tough. We tried the 2 most popular dishes, Brochette Oud Clooster, and Rundsstoverij met Westmalle Dubbel, and were not impressed. Both bland. The brochette was supposed to be medium rare but came out well done. Dry and tough. The dipping sauce has a hint of curry but wasn't enough to carry the whole dish. The stew has a yummy base, I could pick out the beer flavors (Belgians truly have the best beers in the world). Meat pieces were tough, which is a shame given this is a stew. They should have use a fattier cut of beef like chuck. Meme Gusta has a similar but much more flavorful Flemish stew. The no-bake cheese cake was light and refreshing. Good for 1 person, small to share between 2. Service: 2/5. They had no English menu. At this point I have come to Belgium enough to pick out a few familiar terms, but I would have liked to be able to see what other dishes they had. Had to aggressively flag down waiter whenever we needed something. they also charge €1.80 for tap water. This place is popular enough even for locals that one can't get in without reservations. We were told they only have 2 slots: 6-8 or 8-10. We picked the earlier one. The restaurant was only half full until about 7.

They specialize in traditional Belgian dishes, such as Beef Stew. We were looking for something local and authentic like this! We did find a reservation day of and were able to book it. The food was amazing. I loved the meatballs appetizer and beef stew! So good. They had a cute little outside deck area, which was super nice to eat out on in the great weather. If you can get a reservation here, I highly recommend a come!

This place seemed very cozy and fancy, with candles on tables and fairy lights, and people seemed to be having a great time. Moreover, it served a traditional Flemish beef stew, so I walked right on in! Fortunately, they were able to squeeze me in for an hour. I ordered the Flemish beef stew, which had around 6-8 chunks of beef and a small dill-flavoured side salad. It also came with a plate of fries - and when offered the mayo, I instantly accepted to try things the "Belgian" way. The stew was good at first bite, but I grew tired of it halfway through. It was very salty and strong of acidic red wine, and some of the beef chunks were still tough and under braised. The fries were a bit soggy and too thin to be considered typically Belgian fries. For 30 EUR, it was slightly disappointing... but it appears most things in Ghent are quite expensive. The servers there are quite young but very kind and welcoming. I had no issues with the service. What irked me the most was the water situation. I felt pressured to order something, so asked for water. Out came a 20mL glass bottle - just enough for 4 sips of water - and they charged me a whopping 3.5 EUR for this tiny baby. Unbelievable... left a bad taste in my mouth.
