This review would have been 5 stars if not for my initial experience. for the school for Andrew I drove from Los Angeles for a 4:30 PM appointment and arrived early. Unfortunately, my original barber did not show up until around 4:50 PM. When I politely asked what happened, his response came across as dismissive and unprofessional rather than acknowledging the delay. After driving all the way from LA and waiting well past my appointment time, that was disappointing. That said, I want to give a huge shoutout to Uriyah (I may be misspelling his name). When I explained the situation and requested a different barber, he handled everything professionally, respectfully, and without hesitation. The school was extremely busy, but he listened and found a solution. I was reassigned to Andrew, and Andrew was absolutely 5 stars. He was friendly, professional, attentive, and gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. We had great conversations throughout the appointment, he made me feel comfortable, and he was incredibly kind to my dog as well. His attention to detail, positive attitude, and genuine care for his craft completely turned the experience around. So while I'm giving the school 4 stars because of the initial appointment experience, Andrew personally earned 5 stars from me. He completely salvaged the visit, and I'd happily book with him again. I went to Paul Mitchell Beauty School in Temecula yesterday for what I thought would be a very basic service, a trim with long layers. Before my appointment, I understood I would be working with students, not licensed professionals, so I was patient and had realistic expectations. What I did not expect was to spend 4.5 hours in the chair for such a simple service. I made it very clear from the beginning that I am pregnant, did not want to be sitting for hours, and most importantly, wanted to keep my length. My hair was extremely long, it reached my thighs, and I specifically asked for it to stay around my lower back with just a trim and layers. Instead, my hair was cut to below my shoulders. That is not a trim. Going from thigh-length hair to below my shoulders is a drastic change, and once that hair is gone, there's no fixing it. What made the situation even more concerning was that after already cutting off so much of my hair, the student who was originally assigned to me admitted that she was scared to continue. She repeatedly said she needed to find the instructor, Mel, for help because she wasn't confident in what she was doing. Hearing that after so much of my hair had already been cut was incredibly alarming. If she wasn't confident, I wish someone had stepped in much sooner before so much irreversible damage had been done. To make matters worse, it took four additional instructors trying to "fix" my hair, and after all that time, I still left incredibly unhappy. During the process, one stylist even told me I was "extra emotional because I'm pregnant." That comment was completely dismissive and unprofessional. I wasn't upset because I'm pregnant, I was upset because my hair was cut far shorter than what I explicitly requested. What disappointed me the most was the lack of guidance from the instructors. I understand this is a learning environment, but instructors are there to supervise and step in when things are going wrong. Instead of being honest and correcting the mistakes, they continued encouraging the student by saying the haircut looked "fantastic," even though it clearly wasn't what I had asked for. To make this experience even more upsetting, I had my maternity photoshoot scheduled for the very next day. I had been growing my hair for years, and now I have to look back on those once-in-a-lifetime photos feeling self-conscious about a haircut I never wanted. I understand students need real clients to learn, and I truly wanted to support them. However, clients also deserve to have their requests respected and to receive proper supervision when a student is struggling. Unfortunately, this experience left me very aggravated, and I cannot recommend this location based on how my situation was handled. My daughter and I both went in for haircuts: -I have very long hair, just wanted a trim and some face framing. the whole experience was great but my hair is crooked... -My daughter wanted her hair cut to her shoulders (I even showed an exact picture of the last time we cut it). Thank god it is summer break and she doesn't have school because they botched her hair..... they cut her hair basically just under her ears! Which I'm very confused about because they have the instructors start the cut and the just follow it. So how did this happen..? I went in for a full dye with very light brown hair, showed the photo in the second picture looking for a auburn light brown ish hair, i came out with basically almost black hair. Nothing what i had asked for, not to mention once i came home the dye wasn't even fully washed out every time i touched my hair it stained my hands. I would not recommend going in for a color if it's not black, brown or any basic color anyone can do. I used color remover THE SAME day because it was so ugly and uneven in person. Not only that, I was told the girl doing my hair was about to graduate, either they don't teach well or she needs multiple more months to learn how to do hair properly, CLEARLY. my box dye would do better. read more

I went to have a back facial, haircut, and pedicure I only ended up getting the back facial . After my first service I was supposed to get a haircut unfortunately nobody ever came to do it . I went up to the desk a few times after waiting there for 40 minutes and the receptionist said I don't know where they are , she never once walked to the back to possibly get the stylist she just said "I Don't Know " she sat there and watched me wait all that time even after going and asking she just said just wait I will call them again . At no time did she communicate anything to me but was looking right at me stand there and wait , then after waiting 40 minutes I said I am going to cancel she never apologized she only said I can reschedule you ,I declined and said no thank you, as if I want to come back and see if someone shows up or not ,drive all the way back when I already had 2 appointments with them that never happened due to their unprofessionalism , if I did not ask her she would have let me stand there all day , and on top of it charged me for the back facial . I will never go there again what a waste of time , and gas ! I went on my day off thinking I was going to get all of that don't but only got the back facial , I went to Bellus Academy in Poway a few weeks ago and had a back facial, pedicure, and a facial it was wonderful way nicer , cleaner feels like a real spa , my other complaint is when I got the back facial they have you lay on a cold plastic bed with no sheet or blanket , the girl stopped half way into the facial and said she had to go get product I was laying there for about 10 minutes freezing cold on that cold plastic bed , I don't understand why the products weren't already ready when I arrived, Bellus keeps you warm nice beds just like a real spa and they don't stop in the middle and leave you laying there for 10 minutes with no shirt on laying on a cold bed. I went in for a haircut and style and had my service completed by Yara. The salon is quite busy, however, this is a place of learning which makes sense. While I did have to wait about 10 minutes after my appointment time, Yara explained that there was not a chair available yet, which is understandable. I felt like she did such a thorough job and took the time to ask me what I wanted done with my hair. I had light brown hair with highlights when I walked in. I was told to come back Tuesday for correction. NIGHTMARE experience here!!!! I have blonde hair, I went in for simple highlights & haircut.  6 HOURS later, I left with the UGLIEST brownish hair color, NO highlights, a not so great hair cut & my SCALP BURNING FOR DAYS! I was so stressed my hair was going to fall out!! It's pretty bad when the advisor/supervisor tells me to use straight aloe vera on my scalp for the next few days!! FYI the student working on my hair was AMAZING! It was the male "advisor/supervisor" that messed up & told her to use "toner" on my hair after she did the highlights. The Student noticed right away the highlights were completely gone & my hair was an ugly brownish grey color. I noticed it right away too. She called the "advisor/supervisor" over to show him & this guy tried to convince me it was blonde! I was not having it! Then he got frustrated with ME because I believed my eyes & not what he was saying!  I finally asked the student to show him the "before" pic so he could see my blonde hair color. He then told the student to try to use a product that would make my hair lighter, she tried a couple of times but, it didn't work.  So the "color supervisor" stepped in. She was very nice but wow they used SO MUCH CHEMICALS on my head to try to fix it. My scalp was burning so much & I was there so long, I finally had to say STOP! After all that, they had the audacity to charge me $65 for a BURNING SCALP, a not so great hair cut & highlights I did not have!! Oh but they removed the cost of the "toner" which I did NOT ask for nor did I know they were charging me for it! This is the 1st time I've ever left a salon feeling ugly!!! It's been about a month & my hair/scalp still is not the same!! All the chemicals they put on my hair really messed me up. I purposely waited this long before posting this review to make sure my hair didnt fall out. I was a walk-in today to get my haircut got assigned a young man which I think he's one of the few that are in the cosmetology program... he had only been in it for about 10 weeks, but I gave him a try. Apparently my review was "reported" and removed! I DO HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCED THESE INTERACTIONS MYSELF! Not only was my kid a student there, I was also a PAYING CUSTOMER on multiple occasions while supporting my kid. I witnessed first hand the overcrowding on the floor, the lack of help given to students, the berating and demeaning manner of the instructors, how students were treated and talked down to, on top of my kid telling me how she was treated poorly every day! She only liked and respected one instructor who ended up leaving for another job midway through the course. I have even overheard instructors talking badly about students on the floor in front of customers! Don't recommend this place at all from the opinion of a parent of a student who attended and graduated from here. They treat these students like slaves while raising prices to line their pockets and most times customers aren't aware and don't even tip. This place is a total ripoff from the fact they charge $20k+ for their cosmetology course, give students very little guidance, no support for students with special needs coming in with IEPs (don't bother, my kid's friend was kicked out without a refund for "moving too slow"), they get crappy, generic equipment and supplies so most times my kid was buying her own supplies out of her pocket, they are talked down to on a daily basis and made to look dumb in front of customers (many friends who have supported my kiddo can attest to this), instructors were mean and should not have leadership roles, it's all an abuse of power! My list could go on and on about complaints my kid came home with every day and she said it was so miserable there as they kept packing students who weren't ready onto the floor (multiple classes) just so they can make more money off the backs of these poor students. Not to mention, my kid took her state board test and failed by 12 points and she said there were so many questions on this test THAT WASN'T EVEN TAUGHT DURING HER COURSE!! Stay away, BEWARE, you will be ripped off and given zero guidance after you "graduate" they will just kick you to the curb. Also be diligent about their finance office, we were definitely ripped off and my husband's military benefits should have 100% covered everything included with FAFSA, yet my kid paid almost $6k out of her own pocket!! read more

Because I'm African American I took it as they don't service black women hair. I went to the Paul Mitchell school to get my hair lightened and cut after hearing numerous good things about the school. Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. I showed the student assigned to me and her instructor several different images of the type of hair I wanted. Medium brown with golden brown highlights. This shouldn't have been difficult. I've had it done numerous times in the past. The instructor told the student to use a ten processor on my hair instead of a 20 because I wasn't going blonde. That seemed odd to me but hey, I'm not the expert. The application took an hour and the processing took an hour and a half, which is ridiculous! Once my hair was stripped of its color, the instructor put together the hair color and it was the same effing color I walked in with!!!!! So they stripped my hair and then colored it the same dark brown - almost black - that it was before. But I also had the gift of my root and hair not being blended properly, so I have this weird lighter brown band around my head. This nonsense took 8 hours and I didn't even get my haircut. So I walked out not only with worse looking hair, but $100 poorer. I honestly can't believe they still charged me for this. They offered for me to come back so they could fix it but this staff - the instructors specifically- ruined my hair. I just can't even believe this happened. Steer clear of this place. The instructors have no idea what they're doing, and if they mess up your hair, you still get charged. It's taken me weeks to fix the damage they did. read more

I arrived at 1230 for my scheduled appointment today and I was left waiting 50 minutes!! I went to ask what was taking so long during that time and each time they told me my stylist would be out "in a couple of minutes". Third time I asked the manager was at the desk and tells me it turns out the front desk girl assigned me to someone who was graduating today and not even there! Another 2 ladies next to me were waiting 45 minutes because the same thing happened to them. They then got a stylist to come get me and we started the hair wash process which took longer than it needed to and she used cold water and I had to tell her something. Then when it was time to brush my wet hair, it took my stylist about 20 to 25 minutes to brush my hair, which is crazy because I can brush my own hair in five minutes. I actually told her to redo one section because she didn't even brush it and then I took the brush myself and brushed my own hair! Unacceptable when it's a salon. I get they are students but something as simple as a brush should not take that long. Mind you I have been here for about two hours already and she gives me a haircut which did not look bad thank goodness. Then it was time to style my hair and unfortunately, I did not have time to stay so I had to leave with wet hair! What a terrible experience. They didn't even discount my service or apologize at the end of my service and charged me for the cut and style when I only received the cut! Also not one time did her supervisor come to check on the work....the supervisors need to be better! read more

I've been so many times in the past and these last two visits were completely different. While I completely understand it's a school, they say they are training professionals and I felt nothing professional about my visits. The 2nd visit was to fix the first visits color job, they turned my hair orange and damaged it. All in all I was there 14 hours, never once in the beginning did they tell me the time it would take, or gave me hesitation that the look I was going for was unattainable. I understand the students are learning but the teachers seemed just as frazzled and ill prepared. The first visit I had 3-4 different teachers come over and change up the way the students were working. The front desk people were extremely rude and unhelpful when I asked any questions. The atmosphere in there is also so messy now, most employees look like they rolled out of bed. Love the idea of letting people be unique but some of it seemed inappropriate for a "professional" school. A very long story short- 2 visits, 14 hours, told me it would be no problem, and in the end when I was in tears the only explanation or recovery was "they aren't skilled to do that style" ..than that's what you should have told me 14 hours ago. Got a haircut here once and it was nice, other than that I'd head somewhere else. read more

I have to remind myself that it's a school so it will take much longer than a professional salon and that this school hasn't fixed the issue with their water heater and sinks, because the water is freezing coming out and it literally takes about 10 minutes to warm up and even then, it's off and on. I'm a very patient person and not picky, I suggest if you are not this way, this probably isn't the place for you because the stylist are learning, yes they take a little bit longer. I will say the 2xs I've come, the stylist were both VERY good. Very sweet. They talk you through everything they are doing. My stylist was Veronica this time and she listened to how I wanted my hair. I came in for highlights and a hair cut, I haven't bleached my hair in a long time but I do know that my hair has great tolerance for bleach. However the student that worked on my hair completely destroyed it. Apparently as long as their form Is signed off, they don't need a teacher or proctor to come and review what they're planning on doing. This girl bleached my hair beyond belief, I'm a dark Burnett and she took me all the way to platinum, where she 1. Proceeded to add more bleach and 2 decided to take a break outside because apparently after having bleach in your hair for 2 hours it stops working anyway. After when she started taking the foils out of my hair, she took a towel, pulled the bleach all the way down, then proceeded to brush and "detangle" my hair. I felt my soul leave my body when I saw her do this. I kept asking over and over what she was doing and if this was really part of the process. I also told her from the beginning that I needed to be out by a certain time. I 1. Got my hair partially washed, 2. Left with hair more damaged than I could've ever imagined, and 3 was recommended to come back so that they could put toner in my hair. I didn't even get my haircut. If they don't have the time to do a certain service or style, it should be said in the beginning. And I understand that they wouldn't let my leave with toner on my hair because of the product that it is but the let me leave with wet, unbrushed hair, that still had a ton of bleach. I have never cried as much after a hair appointment as I did today. Never ever going back. read more

I've been coming to the salon for five and a half years and am very happy with the guidance of the students and the school's leaders taking responsibility if there ever is a problem. I have been a member of the VIP program since it started and love the discount I receive since I need my roots touched up every 3 weeks. However, I find it very unsatisfactory that the hot water supply facilities are so substandard that there never seems to be enough hot water in the wash room, and it seems to have gotten worse over the years. It either gets too cold or hot so that it's unbearable for the students to put their hands in it, let alone for the clients comfort. The majority of the time there is not enough hot water, and it is most unpleasant having your hair washed and rinsed with freezing cold water!! I can't stand not having my hair rinsed thoroughly, and I think a good part of the time it's because the students spend so much time adjusting the disastrous water temperature, they just want to be finished. This problem is not enough for me to stop coming, but it would make the experience so much more pleasant if it were fixed. read more

It was my first time and set realistic expectations on the service I was going to receive because I understand students are there to learn. I didn't expect the greatest experience but still expected for my hair to come out decent at least. I had an appointment at 5:30pm and didn't leave the salon until closing at 10pm for just a HAIRCUT AND A 15 MINUTE KERATIN TREATMENT!!! I remained EXTREMELY patient because again I understood it was a student working on me and I had time, but she did a TERRIBLE job. The teacher had come to assist with doing curtain bangs because the student had never done them before and praised her for how she was leaving my hair...if this is acceptable please consider another place for a simple hair cut. As I sat in the chair it was difficult to see it the back and trusted both of them on how it would look... When I tell you I'm devastated, I can't even begin! I hate my hair and have to go shorter to fix it! I had long hair and didn't want to go super short but now it looks like I have no other choice and I HATE IT. I would have expected the teacher to say something to try to fix it at least or would have liked her to walk around and engage with all the students. Only til the very end did she come and agreed with the student that my hair look nice. I just went along with them because I couldn't see. To top it off, the student didn't even know how to do a blow out so I cut her off short and told no need since I was going to sleep with it being 9:50pm. When I tell you I hate it, I genuinely got so sad because I would have never expected this when I had been so patient and even tipped the student because I trusted it looked good and was EXHAUSTED after being in the salon for almost 5 hours. Front desk Rude had an appointment at 8:30 was 10 minutes early said the waiting for 20 minutes Ask for a manager the front desk said no Went back to have a waxing service the could not do anything.
