He documented from last visit all that we spoke about including exact date f my last visit, even what I did not remember. I visited my PCP, Dr. Paul Mansonhing, regarding acute tonsillitis, which later developed into a peritonsillar abscess. During my initial visit, I was advised to stay home and wait for throat culture results for days while I was suffering in pain (every swallow felt like shattered glass on my throat) and was even told to gargle with Listerine, which worsened my discomfort. Although Dr. Mansonhing would call back most of the time after I leave him a voicemail, he did not provide effective treatment or assist in getting a timely referral to an ENT. Later, I realized that he should have ordered a CT scan to check for an abscess, prescribed proper antibiotics and pain medications, and referred me to an ENT, but he failed to do all of these. Instead, he sent me home, charged me $20 for a doctor's note with my information written incorrectly, and advised me to gargle Listerine on my inflamed throat, which worsened my condition. My condition worsened to the point that I could not speak or swallow. I called his office multiple times for an ENT referral, but the front desk gave me attitude, difficulty, and even hung up because they couldn't understand me due to me having a hard time to speak. My sister spoke on my behalf, but they dismissed all her concerns. Overall, while Dr. Mansonhing communicates quickly, the care provided did not meet my needs during a serious infection, and it felt like I was not truly treated as a patient in urgent need. I cried multiple days due to pain and everytime I ask for medical attention, they are redirecting me to my PCP (Dr Paul) and he fails to refer me to an ENT/diagnose me properly/provide proper medications. read more

One star for great doctor. -4 for the extremely rude, incompetently terrible staff. My mom has been suffering in pain for weeks. And even ended up in ER twice since her last visit. She spent all of last week waiting for authorization to see a specialist to get her problem taken care of only to hear back "it's still pending." During our second visit to ER and we find out there's a chance it's a cancer and even the ER Dr asked what is stopping us from seeing the proper doctor to make sure this issue is taken care of, even he was surprised we were waiting for so long. After spending the night in ER, she gets discharged despite they wanted to monitor another few days. We make an appointment for my mom to see the Dr. as soon as we get home. We asked for a same day appointment and they told us no, they only had an opening the next day in the morning. That's fine, we wait and go into her next day. Turns out the nurse scheduled her for two days later! While arguing with the front desk TURNED OUT they had the approval since last week!! So my mom was calling daily to find out what was going on to hear them say it's still pending without actually checking! Here now we have to wait another week to finally see the specialist for a biopsy when we could have made this appointment a week ago and got seen sooner. read more

I'm seeing a pattern here with a lot of people talking about the rude, inadept unprofessional staff. I also had to deal with her. extremely rude for no reason. I went in for an annual checkup. I ended up getting charged when preventive check ups are free. I never get billed. Get a rude call from the staff and they sent it straight to collections for amount less than $100. Trying to ruin people credit in order to collect this? This has to be the worst doctor experience I ever had. . read more

Not all of my family have the same Health Provider and Doctor, but for me, from my own experience, he's a great Doctor -- caring, thoughtful, patient, knowledgeable, easy to talk to, down to earth and approachable, and very much aware of what a patient needs because he takes the time to listen to your concerns, answers questions, and checks on you and how you're doing thoroughly. I have been a patient of DR Paul for 15 years. He is great. The only reason for the 4 of 5 is because the girl who now works the front desk is the most rude, unhelpful person I have ever come across. She does not belong in the medical profession where empathy is important. She should go work for a Subway Sandwich shop. That suits her a bit better. read more

Don't go on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesday's. I had an appointment on one of these days and waited over 90 minutes for my appointment. When I asked the receptionist why it was taking so long, she unapologetically responded "Yeah, it's like this on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday's." I said to her "if you know there's going to be a wait on these days, can't you just schedule us for the time we would be seen or just 15 minutes prior?". She said "No, that's just how it is". What makes it worse is they ask you to come 15 minutes early to your appointment. I told the doctor about it and he didn't apologize either. He said the same thing the receptionist said, "yeah, we're busy on these days". I can't stand going to a doctors office that doesn't run their front office well. read more

I always feel like I am his favorite patient when I go in because he takes the time to talk and to ask a lot of questions about my life and family. I hadn't had a "primary physician" in 5 years (never needed one) but when I got sick last year, I looked up local doctors in my provider directory and Dr. Mansonhing was listed as the closest. It was luck of the draw, I guess, but I'm really glad that I came to him. Right from my first appointment, I liked him. As other Yelpers have commented, he really does take his time with each patient and LISTENS to what you have to say. He's very genuine and caring and I appreciate that immensely. I've also found that his office runs pretty true to schedule. I haven't been made to wait more than 5 minutes past my appointment time before his nurse takes me back to get vitals and then it's usually another minute or two after that. His whole office runs like a very small family practice. All of the staff is friendly and courteous and respectful to the patients and each other. The doctor takes his time and makes sure that he "gets it right" and really values your input on your course of treatment. He was very interested in connecting with my other physicians so that they can all "be on the same page" when it comes to my treatment -- and he was treating me for simple stuff, like an ear infection. My only tip is that part of his thoroughness means that he'll often send out for lab tests (unless you decline, which he's really understanding about). It's convenient because the lab is downstairs and you don't need an appointment. My insurance covered it all so it wasn't an issue, but something to consider if you're a cash patient. read more

He learns a history of his patient in details, very knowledgeable, polite and give a right suggestion for treatment. Couple days ago I was very ill and was not able to come in the office. I've been seeing Dr. Mansonhing for 8 years now and he seemed good enough until I had 2 separate appointments where I told the office the specific reason for my appointment when I called to make it (flu shot and strep throat), only to come to the appointment, wait, pay and then be told he couldn't/wouldn't take care of it. It's fine with me if they don't want to give flu shots before October and if they choose not to have the supplies to test for strep on-hand, but it seems like this might have been something they should have told me when I made the appointments. I first met Dr. Mansonhing 24 years ago while I had an appointment with Dr. Osborn his partner. He always had a pleasant smile and always took the time to say hi - even before I became his patient. That is not something you would expect to hear from a very busy doctor, especially a Primary Care Physician with hundreds of patients. Dr. Mansonhing has the greatest sense of humor and does not bore you one bit with the medical lingo, but still keeps it at a professional level. And I think that sense of humor pays off when you might be nervous. You can say a lot about a doctor whose staff has been with him for many, many years. His back office nurse Alberta was with him for 24+ and just retired last year! He treats them all so well and I have admired his courtesy with staff and patients. I'm a retired Emergency Services Worker who has been in the medical industry and knows tons of doctors, Dr. Mansonhing outshines and stands out with his skills, personality and the way he treats each of his patients with such care. So now in 2016, I've returned for my 50th+ office visit after 7 surgeries from work related injuries. Dr. Mansonhing answers emails before my consultation and in between visits, and then he follows up with me after my surgery date. Again, he took the time to consult with me and listen to my symptoms then refers me to specialist as needed. Even with him being conservative, I believe he is like that for a very good reason, as he puts his patient's health and any risks first. His office staff is great assisting with all the insurance form, prescription submissions and specialist referrals in a timely manner. I'll continue to travel to his office 50 mile round trip because a piece of mind is worth the drive any day... You just have to trust in him and what he recommends... you will not be disappointed. I've referred many friends and family over the past 24 years and we're all extremely satisfied 5 Stars.... One of the most important things you should look for when consulting with doctors is, making sure that the doctor is really listening and paying attention to you. Dr. Mansonhing has been my physician for about 10 years. He's in a small office, and it's just him, a front-desk person, and a medical assistant. I'm only there once or twice a year for checkups. My favorite aspects: -- He talks to me while I'm dressed, both before and after the checkup. -- When I ask for a particular treatment (I have some background in medicine), he supports my decision and makes it happen. -- He often calls with test results himself, even when the result is normal. The office staff is friendly and competent. Things often take longer than I'd like, but not outside the realm of normal. Dr. Paul Mansonhing is a really good doctor. When I moved to CA 13 years ago, I had a hard time finding a doctor that cared or took his time with me. A friend referred the Doctor to me and I've been a patient of his for 10 years now. Dr. Mansonhing has been wonderful. He's always taken the time to fully understand my concerns and worked with me to trouble shoot any issues I may have had. He always took time during the checkups and then after to make sure I was clear on the next steps. We are moving out of state and I'm going to miss having Dr. Mansonhing as my doctor. If you've been frustrated with doctors that are too busy or don't care, give Dr. Mansonhing a try. I am sure you will be happy with him. read more

The following is my opinion regarding Dr. Paul Mansonhing based upon my personal experience. THIS DOCTOR IS UNETHICAL. I was offered a shingles vaccine. I asked his receptionist if this would be covered by my insurance. She assured me it was. A couple of months later I was told by his receptionist (who was very rude and nasty to me on the phone) that my insurance company denied payment so I had to pay for it. When I protested that I would have never agreed to the vaccine if it wasn't covered by my insurance she told me that it was 'too bad' (with a sneer), and said it was 'my financial responsibility'. I refused to pay for it since it was a very expensive vaccine that should have been properly vetted by Dr. Mansonhing's office. I called my insurance company and was told the reason for the denial of payment was because the vaccine WAS NOT APPROVED FOR PEOPLE UNDER 60 YEARS OLD. The insurance agent then told me that I would have to be re-vaccinated when I turned 60 years old. Obviously Dr. Mansonhing and his rude receptionist FAILED to do their due diligence. Dr. Mansonhing decided to pass the cost of his error in judgement TO ME. I was later notified by my pharmacy that Dr. Mansonhing HAD REFUSED TO REFILL MY CRITICAL MEDICATION because of 'a billing issue'. Apparently he was too cowardly to notify me of his passive-aggressive action in advance. When I finally spoke to Dr. Mansonhing, he berated me for not paying him and told me that I was 'receiving all the benefits of the vaccine'. HUH? For a vaccine that was deemed by my insurance company to be medically worthless? According to his twisted logic, if he performed an unnecessary and unapproved procedure on me then I would have to pay for it. He proceeded to whine incessantly about how UNFAIR it was that he 'wasn't making any money on this' and that 'he didn't want to be stuck paying for it'. When I told him that his receptionist informed me it was pre-approved by my insurance company, he insisted it was still my responsibility. He refused to refill my important medication out of spite unless I paid him whatever HE felt he was entitled to. I finally took the high road and agreed to pay it because his whining was pathetic. No thanks nor apology from Dr. Mansonhing, he had worked himself up into a SNIT. He did show his appreciation by adding an extra $25 to the vaccine expense on my credit card, as a 'Late Fee'. A late fee because I disputed the charge. STAY AWAY from this two-faced unethical individual, unless you are a doormat with a lot of money. I am filing a COMPLAINT with the California Medical Association. I just found out that Dr. Mansonhing is NOT a graduate of an accredited medical school in the United States. He went to some obscure medical school in South America, the kind that accepts anyone if they have the money. This may be the reason for his shoddy care and lack of ethics.. Do not be fooled by the number of fake 'positive' reviews after the date of my review. 'Dr.' Mansonhing is either begging or paying people to write positive reviews for him. Absolutely the worst doctor's office I've ever dealt with. I put in for a prescription refill that required Dr Mansonhing's approval. The pharmacy received no response. I talked to the Dr's assistant and she said they didn't get the fax, so I had the pharmacy re-fax it. Still no response. The following week, I call and follow-up, and I'm told they will let the doctor know, but by the way I'm due for a physical. Seriously? Why should I make an appointment with a doctor for a physical, when he and/or his staff can't bother to approve or contact me regarding a simple prescription refill. I have been going to Dr. Paul for now as long as I can remember. He bought out the practice of my previous physician when he retired. About 18 years ago I moved from Irvine, Dr. Mansonhing's location, to Long Beach. I still continue to trek down to Irvine to go to him because I value and like him so much. That should tell you something. He's consultative, listens to your opinion, is spot on with initial diagnoses, (but always sends you for appropriate confirming tests), gets you your referrals quickly and has an easy rapport with me, at least, and I gather with all his patients. He's worth the 23 mile drive to go see. Definitely my kind of family practitioner. I should add that his nurse Alberta has retired and he's gone through a couple of nurses and some office staff trying to find the right ones. I really liked Alberta and was sorry to see her go, but I noticed some people writing on Yelp did not. Puzzling but to each his own. read more

I notice doctors in general have their days. Even the great ones have bad days. But I seem to have caught a great doctor on a slow day...which means more time for me! PROS: +3 stars 1. Caring doctor 2. Absolutely takes his time listening to you 3. Willing to listen and converse and explain things 4. He really takes his time with you (or at least on this slow day). Also, he really took his time with other patients too, so it was not favoritism. CONS: -2 stars 1. Because Dr. Paul likes to take his serious time with his patients expect llllllooooooonnnnnnggg wait times. You know, if a doctor takes his time with you, you gotta respect his time with his other patients. My wait time from entering the office to see the doctor was approx. 1.5 hrs and probably took 2 full hours from begin to end. 2. This dude does not where gloves when he examines you! That is a big thing with germ freak me. HOWEVER, I notice guy doctors normally do not wear gloves but girl doctors do. So maybe its a guy thing. Dr. Paul Immediately washed his hands w/ soap after the examination in front of me. So nix on the germs I suppose.... 3. When I called the receptionist Alberta (not sure?) was kinda gruff with me. But I met with her and she seems okay, although strict. This may be deal breaker at times, when as a patient you should be treated like royalty and not a cow in a hay line... Conclusion: In life, we get 4-5 stars for perfection. Thus, I am a fan but only giving 3 stars. read more

My first visit to this doctor's office and they sent me to LabCorp for some test instead of to Quest which is covered in my insurance and now I have to pay $$$! I tried talking to them so many times and they keep saying it's my mistake as the staff told me to go Quest and I went LabCorp. Why on earth would I do that if I had known my insurance doesn't cover LabCorp?? I feel they made a mistake by telling me to go LabCorp which is right by the doctor's office and doesn't take the responsibility now. What a disappointment! Also the staff are not friendly at all! Dr. Paul Mansonhing has been my doctor for more than 20 years. During that timeframe I have recommended him to several friends who have also selected him as their primary physician. He is a wonderful doctor and always takes time to explain everything and makes sure to answer all of my questions. I never feel rushed during my appointments and I appreciate how he makes himself available for follow-up calls and emails. Don't know what's been happening lately, but the service level has gone way down since Dr. Mansonhing moved to the new office. Office appointment dates were completely mixed up and everyone, including the doctor, seems to have short fuses. For example, I've waited up to 45 minutes past my appointment time in the past, and I NEVER once complained because I understand that the doctor wants to spend time with his patients, which is commendable. I've even wrote about this wait time in my last review. On a recent occasion however, I was given the wrong time for my appointment, leading me to come 30 minutes "late". I was told by the receptionist that my time was definitely given for an earlier time, but I would have never agreed for that time period so I know someone screwed up the scheduling. I have a tight work schedule and the time that was supposedly given to me wouldn't have worked so I wouldn't have taken that appointment. So when I came on the time that I knew I scheduled, I was 30 minutes "late". Dr. Mansonhing came out to the front desk and lectured me that I was late and he didn't have time for me. Really? After all the times I've had extended wait times you can't see me for a quick consultation? Especially since someone screwed up and penciled me into the wrong time slot? He didn't want to hear it and stated I had to reschedule. That definitely left a bad impression, though I still think he's a decent MD. read more
