One of my greatest regrets during my recent trip home was walking past Patty Time and not going in. I believe they offer vegetable patties, something I would've loved, and yet somehow I didn't stop. Big mistake. Huge. Patty Time is one of those staple spots that's been around forever, and for good reason. It's stood the test of time in a city that's always changing, and places like that deserve respect. I didn't eat here on this trip, but if I had gotten a patty anywhere, it would've been from Patty Time. I'd have wandered in got my patty and taken it to go because it was never a place I would dine-in at, but a place I would stop off at on my way home from school or on the way to the park with friends. If I remember correctly, it might have a table or two but not really a sit down and eat spot? I'm giving it four stars on nostalgia alone. It's in a small plaza east of Brimley on Lawrence. Normally, there is a lineup, but if you go early. It's a shorter line. The first time, I waited 20-25 minutes. Second time, only 5 minutes. Hands down one of if not THE BEST Jamaican beef patties I've ever had! There WILL be a line, and you WILL wait in it. It was worth the wait. There will always be a line. The crust is flaky, and the filling is perfect. Nicely seasoned, a little bit of heat, and not skimpy on the filling. The ground beef isn't that mushy paste you get with some patties. The day I went, they only had the beef patties, and I have to say I was surprised at how spicy they were! If you enjoy that level of spice, I guess they are decent. I've been to Patty Time twice now. It's a small takeout counter in a local plaza. There are a few tables with limited stool seating. First time was for a Beef Patty and Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas. Second time (today) was for Curry Goat and Oxtail. They only carry one kind of party and it has a saucy type beef filling (not very spicy) and the pastry is flaky and light. A very good beef Patty overall. The Jerk Chicken (no picture) was just OK for me. Decent flavour, not overcooked, but nothing special. Their rice and peas are very good imo. The oxtail was very good, nice tender pieces with very good flavour. Only request would have been more oxtail gravy. The curry goat was not very good. While the curry sauce was nice the goat pieces were tough as nails. Overall, the food here is decent but I probably won't return here again for anything other than beef patties. read more

Hmmm, why have I not written a review about Patty Time before? I've been coming here since they first opened their doors. It seems like so long ago. Their patties are one of the best in Toronto, meaty, moist, and flavourful, with a great crust! These guys know how to make a great Jamaican patty! Their cooked food is also darn good. Again, full of flavour. On this trip, I ordered the Curry Goat and it was cooked perfectly tender and full of flavour. It had just the right amount of meat (very few bones), and gravy to go with the rice, corn, and tomatoes. Other dishes worthy of mention (from past trips) include the Oxtail, and Jerk Chicken. They have a fairly small menu for food but whatever they do, they do it very well. Unfortunately, as good as the food is, not everything is perfect. The service is horrendous! On this trip, after parking (in front of the shop next door), a fellow on the curb said the patties were sold out. I didn't know who this scruffy looking person was but he came into the store after me and stepped behind the counter. Oh, he works here! Theres a great big debate over the best patties in Toronto. And honestly, Patty Time is a top contender. Located in Scarborough, this little shop is incredibly busy all day long (they're open 10:30 until 4-5ish) and even at 2PM there was literally 10+ people lined up outside. The patties were piping hot out the oven, with a deliciously juicy and slightly runny filling. The pastry crust was flakey and the original beef filling was full of flavor. The curry chicken patties (not pictured) are actually really good too, with a subtle, light curry flavor. We also had the small portion of oxtail in addition to the patties. The oxtail is usually served with rice and peas but they ran out, so it was served with plain rice. The oxtail was delicious, with a deep, rich flavor and the right amount of kick. They also offer the frozen patties to take home as they can be easily reheated in the oven (or even air fried ). However, often the chicken curry patties and frozen patties are sold out, so definitely arrive early to get your pick of goodies! Even though the service here can be a bit spotty, the food is always A1 so I'll still be back for that alone. read more

Hole in the wall store in a strip mall with bars on the windows. Interior is stark and menu is limited but don't let that dissuade you from trying their fresh, in house baked, savoury patties. You have the choice of beef or chicken (red dot), hot or warm. A dozen half beef and half chicken hot, of course, and one coco bread to go please. The coco bread was soft but had a tough exterior and was a little anemic looking. Both patties, beef and chicken, had nice flaky crusts with delicious fillings. Other patties have fillings that are over processed and look more like paste or have gelatinous fillings to add bulk but these have a nice texture and mouth feel, you can tell they're made fresh in house. So glad I've found a good Jamaican patty place closer to home. Patties make a good on the run snack; you can also bring a dozen or so to group gatherings. This will be my go to Jamaican patty place, but for more spicy patties or if I want goat patties or rum cake (regular or chocolate), I'll still head on over to Allen's on Kennedy Road. read more
