Absolutely amazing doctors and staff. Only reason I don't give 5 stars is that we always have to wait about an hour to be seen.

My wife and I are both just trying to keep up with our two cross country sons, and I do a pretty good job of wearing my body out in the process. All four of us have been in to see Brett at some point. The thing that keeps us coming back is that he's not just treating whatever hurts that day. He works out why it happened in the first place and sends you home with the exercises and adjustments that keeps it from coming back, and the whole time he's aiming at getting you back to your what you love as fast as he safely can. For me it was calf spasms and ankle problems that had been hanging around for years. Both are gone (mostly), and the exercises he gave me have kept them gone through a lot of miles. Plantar fasciitis was the stubborn one. Dry needling didn't do much for me, but the shockwave therapy worked really well alongside his hands-on work, and I'm running pain free now. Mostly. My oldest went through Sever's and then Osgood-Schlatter and didn't lose a season or even a meet over either one. He's been the PT/chiro for a lot of the serious runners in this area for a long time and you can tell. He also just pays attention to people. He ended up talking my son through what he actually wanted out of a high school when that decision was hanging over him, which had nothing to do with why we were there. The staff deserves a mention, too. Amy is great about finding you a spot if you can be flexible, though fair warning, Brett is popular and the calendar fills up. Ashton and Missy are excellent. I trust the entire office.

We started this process on March 2 after being told that our young son would need approximately six…read moremonths of treatment. Five months later, that treatment still hasn't even begun. At the first appointment, the doctor examined my son, prescribed physical therapy, and ordered a custom nighttime brace to keep his feet at a 90-degree angle while sleeping. The problems started immediately. We were initially double-charged for the office visit, and it took more than a month to correct the billing error. We were also told our insurance would cover a significant portion of the brace, but after the order was placed, we were informed that a staff member had made a mistake and failed to account for our deductible, leaving us responsible for the full amount. A few days after my son's feet were scanned, the office called to say they had lost the scans and we had to come back for another appointment. After the second scan, they called again to ask whether the brace was supposed to be for one foot or both. The doctor also prescribed physical therapy. I contacted numerous pediatric physical therapy providers, but none accepted children my son's age. When I asked the office for guidance, I was told the doctor would recommend another provider. That never happened. After waiting another month, we finally received what was supposed to be the custom nighttime brace. It wasn't. It looked like a simple shoe brace with no straps to hold my son's feet in the prescribed position. When I called and went for another visit, the doctor initially tried to convince me that this was actually better than the brace she had prescribed. Only after I insisted did they agree to remake it. Then came weeks of delays and conflicting information. Every time we called, we were given a different explanation. One person said we had already picked it up. Another said it had been sent back for correction. Then we were promised it would be ready the following week. None of those promises were kept. By this point, we had lost confidence and sought a second opinion from another pediatric orthopedic specialist. After examining my son, that specialist told us that, in their medical opinion, he did not need either the prescribed physical therapy or the brace. Finally, after more than FIVE MONTHS, we picked up what was supposed to be the corrected custom brace. The doctor didn't even come into the room to check the fit or examine my son. We were simply handed the device and sent home. When we got home, we discovered something that perfectly summed up our entire experience. Both braces were made for the RIGHT foot. Not one for the left and one for the right. Two right-foot braces. After five months of delays, repeated mistakes, conflicting explanations, and a device that was not usable, we ultimately chose to stop the process. We were told that a partial refund could be issued, and we received back approximately half of the amount we had paid. Even with that refund, the experience left us without a usable brace and with months of our son's treatment time lost. ***Update after the doctor's response*** The doctor's response still does not address my main concerns. My son was not supposed to receive an AFO in the first place. We specifically chose a nighttime brace because he attends preschool and we did not want his walking or play to be affected unless absolutely necessary. If the final solution was simply an off-the-shelf night splint with no right or left side, why were my son's feet scanned and why was I charged $550 for what was presented as a custom orthotic? I also find it disappointing that the response emphasizes how the staff "worked tirelessly." They spent that time correcting their own repeated mistakes. Fixing those mistakes was part of their professional responsibility, not a favor to my family. What is still missing is a simple acknowledgment and apology. P.S. Despite receiving a partial refund, I was still charged over $200 for a device that appears to be a generic night splint available for around $15 at Walmart. I walked into SCOI for an appt with my wife and you could tell instantly, the waiting room was way to big and there were way too many people in it. So not only were they running WAY behind but they have prepared for running way behind because (my guess is) they are ALWAYS running way behind. I mean the irony alone!! Here are all these people with bad backs and other issues and you are making them sit in an uncomfortable waiting area for hours? Exaggeration, you say? I went to ask about when we might get seen after it was 33 minutes past our appt time. (Of course, we got there twenty minutes early because we don't operate like SCOI... we are mindful of our time and obligations... so we've been there close to an hour.) We were told that we "were next" but they could not tell me if that meant 5 minutes or 45 minutes but it didn't matter because we were relatively sure it would be the same situation the next time we came to this office and this was not a situation we wanted to be involved with regularly... so we left. (We would have told them we were leaving but they didn't have the decency to keep us informed when they were running 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes late... let them do the guessing this time.) Fast forward almost an hour and we get a phone call while driving home... "Are you in the clinic? We are looking for you." You are looking for us NOW? About an hour-and-a-half past our appt??? Could you have looked for us about 15 minutes after our appt time to say, "Sorry but the dr is running late"? Don't get me wrong... the girls were all nice. It's probably hard to remain even semi-nice in that kind of chaos. About 5 to 7 years ago I thought I noticed a shift in this kind of practice of keeping patients waiting forever. With cell phones, automatic reminders, online scheduling, Yelp reviews... I thought I was seeing that my wait times had become very reasonable. Ya know? Word will get out and people won't stand for it so you better get your shite together... SCOI didn't get the memo. They literally do not care about this review... or your time. I'm giving two stars... because the girls at front were pretty cool and, who knows, the doctors may be great.
