Pat's Marine is NOT Trustworthy or Fair to his customers !!! I had engaged Pat's marine to repair/replace my failed alternator on my Mastercraft ski boat. His staff completed the job but soon after the alternator failed again leaving me stranded on the water to be towed back in. I pulled my boat out for the season and had another mechanic do the winterization and discovered they installed the WRONG model of alternator. I had it repaired properly and returned the incorrect alternator to Pat. He REFUSED to refund my money and hung up the phone keeping the nearly $600 alternator. Now i need to go to court like all the others who have been unfairly treated by him. read more

Run. Don't walk, run! One star is 3 too many for these guys. I hired Pat's Marine Engines to conduct a full mechanical survey of a Ford Lehman 135 on a 1983 Nauticat 52 and after a very brief time aboard (less than 30 minutes) Pat decided that a full rebuild was required and discontinued the survey. Virtually no system testing was performed - only a visual inspection. That, alone, is not the problem - after all, I did hire the company to survey the engine and find any existing problems. My issue is that Pat would not discuss his findings with me until I agreed to pay him over $100 more than the quoted price of the survey, and he spent the entire time staring at my watch (a rather expensive anniversary gift) - continually jacking up the price of mechanical and maintenance items. By the time our conversation was over the initial "repair" bill went from an $8,000 -12,000 rebuild to over $30,000! When approached about the increased survey cost, Joel, Pat's office manager, informed me that I was expected to "renegotiate" the cost of the survey based on hiring them for further work - all while still aboard the vessel with Pat. I also asked about the escalating cost of the repairs and was told that the engine is fairly rare and difficult to find parts for. This is a Ford Lehman! Parts are abundant and are relatively easy to source! In fact, an entire fully reconditioned engine can be purchased for around $10,000. I also asked about the ethics of providing a quote for repairs when all I wanted was a survey of the current condition and I was told, not in as many words, to go F$*@ myself. After many phone calls to other providers and Ford Lehman specialists, I have since learned that the quoted work would likely cost between $7,0000-10,000. Right where we started before Pat decided I was a "rich guy". Regardless of whether the repairs cost $1000 or $50,000, I will NEVER hire these clowns to do so much as wash my car! If you decide to employ their services, make sure to wear your filthiest clothes, leave your watch or jewelry at home, and bring your checkbook and expect to pay about $1000.00 per hour for inept advice. read more

I brought my Maxum to Pat's Marine multiple times. They always exceeded my expectations and were significantly less expensive than other boat shops like Seattle Boat or Ballard Marine. I'd recommend them. read more

Please read this before you even consider this lying worthless mechanic. His word and any warranty he promises you is absolutely worthless. This is an email I have sent to Pat since he wont even speak to me, and believe I was very polite initially. He is a very dishonourable man. Pat. Here is a copy of the invoice. Why will you not honour your work or your word? The date was April 2 2015. I called you back in December, and again on April 2 2016. Are you just not qualified to do the work? Why will you NOT give me a reason as to honour your word? I specifically asked you pre purchase ' what about the boat being in Blaine' and you said if there were any issues not to worry we would work something out' Was that just an out rite lie Pat? I will see you in court at no cost to me Pat. I mean for christ sakes you cant even give me a valid reason as to why you wont do the work. My phone records prove i spoke with you for seven minutes in December on this issue....well within the warranty period. It is a shame that a man in this day and age is not worth his word, because I always thought thats all we had. Even when you have the paperwork to back it up. Please do not ever say that I didnt give you the opportunity, because we both know thats a load of bs. I have ccd a few people on here Pat, perhaps they will help spread the word about your worthless word, no wonder your reviews are so unfavourable. And thanks for just hanging up on me Pat real professional. An update to this post, my insurance company ended up doing a total rebuild on this engine, I have submitted my cell phone records for them in there investigation and they will be suing Pat. Which is great, as they have deeper pockets than I, and I will help them any way i can. Karma is a bit$&. Stay away. read more

I was referred to Pat's Marine Engines by some folks I boat with. Their recommendation did not let me down. Pat is GREAT! I was looking for a new boat and Pat performed the mechanical survey for me. He was very patient with my questions, I am a bit of an engine neophyte....and he even was willing to travel all the way to Tacoma to check out my top new/used boat pick. He made all the right faces and noises in front of the current owner and later told me it seemed a great price and in good condition. Thanks to Pat I am cruising my new boat this summer worry free when thinking about what is "under the hood". Anyone thinking about purchasing a new vessel should give Pat a call and get it checked out. His pricing is very fair and the peace of mind is priceless! read more

I f I could give no stars it would be too generous for how I feel about this company. I had the bottom of my boat cleaned and the stuff that came off was of higher quality than Pat's marine Engines. I have never ran across a more crooked, lying person in my life. I had Pat's Marine do a survey on my boat prior to purchase. First a verbal was given where he estimated about $3000.00 in repairs, said items could wait until spring. I hired Pat to do some service prior to spring. 5 items cost $3700.00 and did not address all of what i wanted him to do. Starboard engine blew out all the antifreeze out of the collection bottle twice. Finally Pat determined it was a hose, although he had just serviced the raw water pumped and removed the cooling bundles, $500.00 to fix what i believe to be his mistake as there were letters and numbers on the hoses suggesting they were hooked up wrong. I had the risers checked in spring by another mechanic. $13,000.00 later as it turned out risers were shot, manifolds shot, and heads were so rusted the bolts had to be cut off on the manifold and head on the starboard engine. Pat said he told me to check the risers, the other mechanic said this should have been caught during the survey if a light had been shown under the engine. Survey was sloppy at best. I sued pat in court, lost due to no warranty for the survey and no physical witness to testify. Pat lied to the judge more than once saying he tried to talk me out of buying the boat. I am not done with this, i will gather the witness and see him again. He will not be allowed to rip people off and not pay the consequences. if you are looking for a survey or boat work, steer clear of Pat's marine engines, you will be glad you did. He will lie to you and will not communicate during the whole experience other than to give you the bill. read more

Overcharged and left loose hose clamps (coolant hose popped off underway). I felt Pat to be a very dishonest person and when confronted he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I will never do business with pats marine again! read more

This company operates without estimates or authorization of work, watch out!! The mechanic came out to give an estimate, which never happened, but offered to "soak" one of the carburetors since he couldn't get the boat to start. Total time onboard: 10 minutes. Almost a month later he came back with the part and reattached it -- 4 small screws, total labor time about 1.5 minutes. Next we receive a shocking bill for a complete carburetor rebuild and are now being sued because we disagree with the bill. No phone calls or emails were ever received prior to the bill, not an estimate, not a change order, and definitely no authorization. To date the boat has never been started or left the slip. We've had about 7 other contractors do work on the boat with no issue and no confusion about bids or authorization. In conclusion, if Pat offers to "soak" something for you, it's safe to assume he's talking about soaking you. read more

Great work, reasonable cost, and completed within a good amount of time, I will definitely use them in the future!

I wish I would have read the other 2 terrible reviews and NOT listened to the person who referred Pat's. Whatever you do - GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE before you do anything!! I had a transmission leak in the front seal of the port engine and needed the oil changed in both engines. Boat sat at the Nickerson Marina for 6 weeks, only to have the entire transmission REBUILT which I did not want or give authorization to do and never did change the oil in the engines! The cost was 2-3X what was expected!! I am absolutely furious over this and strongly recommend to go ANYWHERE else. read more

I was very surprised to find that others have had bad experiences here. After poor experiences with other companies in the area (either laziness, lack of knowledge, overcharging, or a combination of the three), I found Pat's Marine Engines to be exactly what I was looking for. Knowledgable, helpful, honest, and professional. He was in and out in 30 min. Turns out the engine was dead, but he didn't charge me for labor. In short, it was as good an experience as finding out you have a dead engine can be. read more

I needed a mechanical survey on a boat I wanted to buy and Pat's Marine Engine was recommended. Pat met me at the boat and did a thorough mechanical inspection. The guy I ended up buying the boat from was impressed as well and asked for his card. I felt confident Pat's analysis of the engine was spot on. I would never buy another boat without his opinion. I also plan to use Pat's Marine Engine to do my regular maintenance. read more

I have an older Cal sailboat and Pat has done a few projects for me over the years. I've also had a few experiences with other diesel mechanics that didn't go so well. In one case I had my transmission installed incorrectly by two separate mechanics. Then I brought Pat in and he was able to help me track down a good transmission at a reasonable price, and then did the installation at 1/2 the cost of the two prior mechanics. I trust these guys and I feel like they stand behind their work. read more

For some reason, the review I posted a month ago did not take, so here we go again. I cannot say enough good about this company. I am sure there is more to RT's story than he is sharing. A couple of years ago I had the terrible experience of having US Engines rebuild my 2 Mercruiser's to the tune of $9000 plus and after spending a year trying to get them to work, I was referred to Pat by another engine mechanic and after determining that they were rebuilt with automotive parts and not balanced, I decided to bite the bullet and repower with new 5.7 liter Crusader engines. Pat, Joel and Rob held my hand throughout the process and worked with me on budget, timing and redoing electrical, plumbing and general clean up of my engine compartment. We experience a little glitch in the cooling system and Pat stood behind the warranty 100% in spite of the fact a lot of time was expended resolving the issue. Since this time, I have had work done on other issues and they have always been done within my timeframe and with total satisfaction. I cannot say enough bad about US Engines, nor enough good about Pat's Marine Engines. They are the best I have ever encountered in 60 years of boating. Thank you Pat, Rob and Joel read more

They wrote an estimate that was 1/3 of what the final bill they gave me stated. No updates during the project stating that it was going over budget. They have been unresponsive in fixing a faulty part they had fabricated and then installed. They installed the wrong size V belts. read more

a massive bill (over $2,000) for a simple tune up, weeks completing the work, no updates or diagnostics provided through out the job, undisclosed/unauthorized work done, diesel & antifreeze left in the bilge, and the engine failed to operate after 2 hours. I had to use a second company to fix the failed maintenance job. After contacting Pats marine about all this, I was told the job was completed and it was not their problem. read more
