In my opinion the Steak was a tiny bit overdone, but very typical for Mexican and better than most restaurants. Plenty of steak, and I might leave out the lettuce next time. The sour cream was all on one side of the burrito, which is my pet peeve, but I'll probably get it again next time. Change in ownership. It is going downhill quickly. This was one of the best in Conway but no more. You can find better for less money.

Located in a small strip mall, this restaurant will not disappoint. We were greeted as entered, seated immediately. You have your choice of booth or table. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating to our requests. Guacamole was fresh and delicious. Nice chunks of avocado along with some creamy guacamole. Taco salad was huge. I had leftovers to take home. Flour taco shell was fresh. Filled with lots of beef, green peppers and onions. I will definitely return the next time I visit Conway. I just ate lunch at this restaurant and I got the chicken patron burrito lunch. I have to say, I am from California and I'm fairly critical of Mexican food, that said, this is the best Mexican restaurant in Arkansas. The food is fairly authentic and extremely flavorful. The chicken in the burr was seasoned perfectly and I've never had anything like it before. The service was also good and I also liked the design of the restaurant, but the food alone is worth the trip. The only thing I don't like is that I live in Rogers and this is two an half hours away! They charged all of my friends and I wrong, when we tried to explain they were not helpful and wouldn't let us talk. They were not busy at all 3pm on a Monday. Good service. Great selection on the menu for lower calorie meals. Food was very good. I got the 4 enchiladas and hubby got Oso steak burrito. Salsa was watery and no heat but ok flavored. Over all we will definitely be back. read more

"Holy Guacamole!" ... No really, their "Live guacamole" (made table-side, get it?) is a top contender for best I've ever tasted, like ... ever. It's just that good! I'm quickly finding that Conway is the land of authentic TexMex (no lie) and El Patron is a pretty sweet addition to the local mix! I earned a Mexi-Can badge in my short time here to prove it, and I've even overheard patrons asking for guacamole with their sushi rolls at a local Japanese restaurant. (I mean, really?!) But that's neither here nor there. El Patron is a great addition to the neighborhood and lucky for us, it's in close proximity to home! I ordered the taco salad and the hubs randomly customized an enchilada. We were both pleased with our meal and left stuffed, but the show stopper was definitely the "live guac" by far! Patron Mexican Grill is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Conway. The tacos, fajitas, and drinks are all awesome! You can't beat their complementary chips and salsa! If you're a discriminating customer who knows what you want, then this is the place for you. But only if what you want is pubes in your food. I once thought it would take dead mice, roaches, or something to that effect to leave me absolutely disgusted. Never did I imagine though that I would ever encounter so many pubes in one place. I first noticed a clump of pubes swept into the corner. We were seated in a booth near the back of the restaurant within full view of this prominent pile of pubic hair. I didn't give it too much thought until our food arrived. I had the chicken tortilla but was surprised to find a side order of pubes garnished on the side of plate. So gross! It seemed that the management didn't mind that their restaurant was plagued with pubes. When I asked our waiter to remake my tortilla, he said that he would have to charge me for a second tortilla even though I assured him that I did not order pubes with my meal. As I became more frustrated I asked to speak to the owner. They told me he was on vacation in Brazil. Imagine that: a vacation to the one place on earth where they've systematically eliminated pubic hair! I was not impressed. Surprisingly the restrooms here were spotless. Probably because they moved all of the pubes into the rest of the restaurant. The one star they earned was for their cleanliness in the john. Overall the food was a little dry, the consistency was not what I expected, and of course there were just too many pubes. One star. read more

The "Live Guac" was about the only thing I would recommend. I ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras and my DH had the Patron Dinner. The red sauce on both our meals was like spicy tomato soup- the weirdest enchilada sauce ever, and not very good. The rice and beans that came with the meals was tasty, but the main entrees were not great. The free chips and salsa were only mildly passable. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes. This is my absolute favorite Tex-Mex restaurant. The food is always amazing, the service is always friendly. Although, if you are looking for really quick service, I suggest avoiding peak hours, especially Friday and Saturday night. Terrible food and a rip off. Absolutely, positively DO NOT order food to go. Half of it will be missing, boxes half full and the quality is ridiculous. They actually gave me burnt fajitas last time instead of recooking them. They were literally all black and had the black scrapings from the pan added to it. It was disgusting. Also, their cheese dip is horrible!! They water it down with milk because the owner is so cheap and rips you off. All 3 - La Huerta, El Patron & El Parian are all owned by the same j.a. so everything is exactly the same @ all 3 places. They used to actually make their own homemade tortillas which were pretty good, but then their cheap owner started actually charging for them. Give me a break! Just save your money. I hate to tell you the food is probably better @ obviously a different restaurant, but if you really want Mexican, just go to Taco Bell. That's how bad all 3 of these restaurants are. Let's face it, Conway has upwards of 20 different Mexican-type sources for dining. I've been to nearly every one of them, and Patron is the worst, and the only one at which I would choose to never eat again, given the choice. My wife had enchiladas, and I ordered a burrito. The burrito was on a enchilada-sized tortilla (very small), with canned refried beans on the side, and cold rice. It was not good. We also ordered a cheese dip, which was passable, but nothing amazing. The guacamole on both of our dishes was from the same, well-refrigerated batch of sour-cream mixture guac. Not what you expect from a Mexican joint. Their staff was decent, and I give them props for the atmosphere and speed, which is great and very fast, but honestly, there's a reason they have an item on their menu called "College Special," which consists of chicken burritos slathered with cheese sauce. With the likes of Faby's and other superior choices in the area, I would avoid Patron even if it was the last place open on a Christmas when no one invited you over for dinner and you were trying to eat your feelings. Trust me, you'll leave this place more depressed than when you came. read more

Tex-Mex generally ranges from ok to outstanding except for some tamales I bought once from a street vendor that were deadly. That said, I have to place El Patron's in the ok category. My wife and I both ordered off the lunch special menu. I had the beef enchilada and she had one filled with squash. The service was good and fast. The decor was cookie cutter Americanized Mexican. The price was reasonable. My enchilada was a bit tough and filled with a small amount of ground beef and had way too much cheese sauce. The rice was well prepared and the refried beans were, well, refried beans without much taste or texture. Nothing to rave about here. My wife ate half her enchilada and passed it off to me. She is from El Paso and very picky when it comes to Tex-Mex. On a positive note, the chips and salsa was good. In fairness, I should wait to post a review after I have eaten food from the regular menu and not the lunch menu. But in truth, their chance to hook me was the first time I ate there.
