The Courtyard in Jacksonville was conveniently located and had higher reviews than my alternatives,…read morebut the stay was a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, the hotel has great amenities: a large fitness room with a variety of equipment, a nice pool area for warmer weather, EV chargers, and guest laundry. The Wi-Fi and cable were fine, and the service at the Bistro for breakfast was very friendly and helpful. However, my room was disappointing for a renovated hotel. There was paint on the door handle, a missing section in a wall corner, and surprising mold in the bathroom. I was also unsure whether the towels above the toilet were fresh or had been left by a previous guest. Who puts towels above a toilet anyway? Most frustratingly, the curtain track was broken and wouldn't close completely, letting the light in all night, so I didn't sleep well. Even the refrigerator was an issue, as it froze the salad I brought back for breakfast. Once it sat out, it was okay, though, and maybe it actually kept it fresher, but it was still unexpected. While the amenities and Bistro staff were great, the lack of attention to detail in the room's maintenance and housekeeping was a letdown.

I need one of those beds but I'm sure they're above my price point. I slept better there than I do at home.

I thought the blood or excrement spot on the toilet seat was bad, or the bathroom door not closing all the way or even the latch to the fire extinguishing access port in the bathroom were as bad as it could get but imagine my horror when I prepared to turn in for the night only to see a giant roach scurry from under the bed. I guess these are routine issues for this hotel as the front desk person was just blase about it. I will be contacting Onslow County's Health Department first thing Tuesday morning. I would say that I would follow that up with a call to their corporate complaint line, but I was hung up on twice when attempting to file a complaint. I will be checking out of this disgusting hotel tomorrow morning & praying I find another, cleaner, hygienic hotel to stay at where concerns are met with sincerity! I am going to follow this up with an email to Booking.com. I have made many a reservation through them and have never had so many problems in just 7 hours!!! While I try to find someplace else to stay, what is going to crawl on me in the middle of the night?? I couldn't kill the fast roach and now I can't find it! They offered to move me (before I knew about the roach) but I had already unpacked and was getting ready to leave for dinner.

It was crawling on my arm under the sheets and I had to catch it to bring it to the hotel staff. I asked what was I supposed to do about the situation because I am not sleeping in that room? And the front staff said that they were fully booked and could not change my room. I had to wait for the manager to come in at 8 AM to resolve this issue, And ended up staying up the rest of the night. They ended up switching my room the next day, But I was Told by the manager that there was an infestation of roaches and they recently got treatment And was super paranoid the rest of my stay there. She did end up compensating me For my stay, but found out that there was one room available during that night in the front desk lied about . I was still very disgusted with the situation and Had two nights of restless sleep.

Taking accountability and applying resolution is what supports the rating for this property. Shout out to Ms. Cynthia who manages breakfast. She is welcoming, easy to talk to and sends guests off with good vibes and a good food options. Check in was easy and the young lady who checked me in (sorry I forgot her name) was super nice and efficient. Plenty of parking and clean facilities. Located near various food options, financial institutions and shopping (Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Target and a mall). At night, the property was well lit and felt safe. This property supports mobile key check in, various rates (AARP, Gov/MIL, travel agent) with appropriate proof. Although it was a further distance than desired from the location I was working at, it all worked out. There are a few military installations in this area (MCAS, Camp LeJeune). I do feel comfortable staying here if in the area again. Again, the people here are representing the brand well here!

Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing. This is an older hotel, and the age of the property and infrastructure is definitely starting to show. That said, the common areas appeared clean and reasonably well maintained. Our room, however, had a strong, unpleasant smell when we arrived. Thankfully, I travel with essential oils and a diffuser, which helped considerably. There also appeared to be a small blood stain on the carpet, which was unsettling. One of the mattresses in our double-queen room was visibly lumpy and noticeably sunken in. The elevator carpeting smelled terrible as well. I actually wondered whether the carpets had been shampooed with dirty water because of the odor. The breakfast was another disappointment. This was the first Fairfield Inn on our cross-country trip that didn't offer scrambled eggs. There was raw bacon sitting in the warmer, apparently waiting to cook itself, which was certainly not appetizing. I was thankful for the waffles and bagels, but overall the breakfast was a letdown compared with the other Fairfield Inns we stayed at. After a long day of cross-country travel, we were really hoping for a clean, comfortable room and a decent breakfast. Unfortunately, this hotel fell short. The common areas were clean, but the condition and odor of our room, the elevator, the aging infrastructure, and the disappointing breakfast made this a stay I would not repeat. I would not recommend this hotel based on our experience.
