This review is long overdue. Our garage door completely stopped working one Saturday evening and our landlord called Patrick's Garage Door since they are local & had great reviews. Since it was the weekend, they said they'd give us a call back on Monday morning. They called mid morning on Monday and scheduled an appt for a technician to come later in the week. The day of my appt they called and said the tech had a cancellation and asked if he could come earlier. Perfect! He was there within 30 mins. He listened to me explain in not so technical terms what was going on and he thoroughly examined the entire system to try to figure out what was wrong. He found that our motor was defective and was installed incorrectly (too close to the door itself causing the door to not open all the way) and recommended that when we replace the motor that we install a longer rod so that the door can open to its full capacity. He gave me a quote & after my landlord approved, I made an appt for the install. The same tech along with one other came out that day, on time and got everything installed in about an hour. So fast and the new motor with the longer rod works amazing. Highly recommend this company! read more

Have to take the time to write an additional review for Patrick. Mom accidentally ran into the garage door the other day, buckling the bottom panel. Called Patrick to come out and take a look. He warned me this garage door was discontinued but he thought he might have some extra panels in stock. When Patrick came over, he measured the garage door panel and, of course, it was the size he didn't have in stock. I immediately started sweating, thinking the only option was to replace the whole thing. BUT, being the creative guy that he is, Patrick came up with the idea to "bolt" the panel back together so the garage door would work and I wouldn't have to put out $1,100 for a brand new door. After years of being frustrated and disappointed by the shoddy work and attitude of Brown's Overhead Door (hey, they used to be good!), I decided it was time to find a new garage door repairman. (the spring on our door suddenly broke, and our car was trapped inside). I called Patrick's and left a message. He called back within 10 minutes, and was able to come out the very next day. He set up a two-hour window, then called again within that time frame to narrow down when he'd be here. He was professional, friendly, and personable. Oh yeah, and more importantly, he fixed the door, He also advised me of some weatherstripping repairs that will be needed before next fall, and told me I could do it myself or call him, and wrote down exactly which parts I'd need. And if that wasn't enough, he lubricated everything and lined up the door with the track, as well as did some maintenance on the other door. Above and beyond the call of duty! I'm sad to have to amend my review. Before our one year warranty was up, the door began to make loud noises. We called them out, and they said it just needed to be lubricated. They sprayed it with a lubricant. We continued to treat the door with lubricant. This week at 2am when trying to go to the Emergency Room for my mother-in-law we couldn't open the door. It appeared the left spring had broken. We called Patrick's and they said they no longer did work in Portland. We have now had another company out and were SHOCKED to discover Patrick had installed two DIFFERENT sized door springs on the door (a definite NO NO), also had installed cheap plastic rollers instead of ball bearing rollers. This was a $2500 garage door, not a cheapo door. The repair guy said it looked like the original installer just cleaned out the warehouse and used whatever leftover parts they had to piece together our install. He noted a number of errors in the door. We are now having to invest another $500+ to correct these issues. I like to support small business people, but something went horribly wrong here and we're paying the price. read more

A spring broke in our very heavy custom wood garage door. Patrick's was very responsive. However, the technician was very pushy regarding how difficult the job was. Also, when the spring was installed it appears the setting on the garage door lifter was not adjusted properly. The lifter then shorted out causing a lot of electrical problems in the garage. I hired another company to install a new lifter and the other company said the spring that was installed was not the right one for my very heavy garage door. Patrick's did come back to investigate the situation and said the spring was OK and didn't need to be replaced. So was the lifter burning out a coincidence - possibly. My main issue was the technician going on and on about how tough the job was. I will be using another company for future calls. read more

Spring broke on middle garage door. Doors were thirty years old and beginning to show their age; I thought it might be time to replace them. I called Patrick to discuss my options. He came out and looked over the doors and suggested that we could replace the broken spring and quoted a very reasonable price. Even when he knew I was potentially in the market for new doors, he did not try to upsell me, but rather pointed out that the existing doors still had some life left in them. But at my request he showed me what replacements could look like. The photos of the doors he had available were beautiful and we decided to go ahead and order three new doors and give the house a facelift. Once we had put a deposit on the new doors, he offered to replace the broken spring on my old door for no additional charge so that we could continue to use that garage bay while we waited for delivery of the new doors.
