Though the office is home to three medical doctors, I have only been seen by Dr. Michelle Evans and I have been very happy with her approach to working with me and with the ways that she has proposed to treat my recent bout of migraine headaches. Now, when it comes to scheduling appointments I am a little old-fashioned and I generally will do whatever I have to do to speak with a live person to set something up. However, this does not seem possible with Buckhead Internal Medicine and when it came time to schedule a physical and then to go in seeking medical treatment I have had to use their email-driven system of scheduling or to call the answering machine there and leave a detailed message regarding the nature of my request. I will admit, they make this system efficient and it works quickly and accurately; I need to get over my worn-out methods. They have always been super-prompt in responding to me and have worked with me very well to fit appointments into my somewhat hectic schedule. I really like Dr. Evans at BIM because she, as well as her assistants and colleagues, is very personable and thorough and neither over-treats or explores avenues that are just unlikely, expensive and unnecessary. In the past, numerous physicians have put me through extensive testing and a gauntlet of procedures that have provided nothing in the end. Today I was pleased to receive a shot and a small prescription that should nip what is most likely ailing me early on so that I can back in working order almost instantly. In addition, parking is always available, though for a fee, and the fact that they are located on the Piedmont Hospital campus allows them to provide quick services to patients that might not be so readily available were they located further away from such a large variety of medical service providers.

I have both Dr. Gibbons and Dr. Monahhan as my physicians, and I couldn't be happier! They are both very knowledgeable, attentive, and they make you feel very comfortable throughout your entire visit. The office uses an electronic method to communicate and share lab results, and I think it is very effective and helpful. It's called Mychart. I've been able to also communicate directly with my physicians regarding any problems or concerns. The staff is very nice as well. In addition, I can request prescription refills, check my lab results, and look over what was discussed during my visit. I love it! Very convenient!! I absolutely love my physicians and I am very happy that I have finally found my primary doctors! Thank you Dr. Gibbons and Dr. Monahann!!

A practice which I find extra repugnant given that many of these people have nowhere else to turn and no support system to help them know better. Since being sold and rebranded as AHF it has only gotten worse. It took 6 months to get my prescription moved to my new pharmacy, which refilled once before it just resumed filling at my old one again. My last two appointments were canceled on me same day. Appointments to renew an existing prescription of HIV medicine, which they will only do with a consultation. To any young person reading this: This is not normal. You only need a routine bloodwork lab. There are free clinics and even online services that do this. I had not been able to refill in months before finally gaining the courage to just cut this place off. They will not answer the phone or return voicemails, and do not have a way to contact them online without using their portal. Their portal, which requires that you call on the phone to set up an account. A closed loop of incompetence. Run far and fast. Shame on these people.

Dr. Smiddy spent more than 30 minutes, one on one, going over my medical history and was steadfast in his pursuit of details regarding my health. He's also a bit of a rare find in that he possesses a very keen sense of listening. Furthermore, while the results of my bloodwork were good and unloaded into the patient's portal the following morning, Dr. Smiddy had an associate call me just to reassure me that everything was fine, which is a courtesy I've not experienced since patient records were put online. Highly recommended.

In short, my visit and follow-up communication from Dr. Kelly were great and I'm happy to have him as my new primary care physician (PCP). Based on this experience, I look forward to the appointments to come. I've been a patient with Piedmont Physicians at Atlantic Station since 2006, starting with James Harrington, MD (internal medicine), but mostly with Belinda Brown-Saddler, MD (family medicine). I saw Dr. Brown-Saddler for my annual physical every year from 2007 to 2023. She left Piedmont Physicians at Atlantic Station to help pilot and lead the relatively-new Piedmont Concierge Medicine program. At my last physical with Dr. Brown-Saddler, she recommended Augusta Essuman-Nelson, DO (internal medicine) to be my new PCP. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Essuman-Nelson, but then she had a baby (congratulations!), so I switched to Dr. Kelly at the last minute. Everything worked out well because I was very happy with my visit with Dr. Kelly. As a longtime patient at Piedmont Physicians at Atlantic Station, I noticed a new wave of younger doctors and nurse practitioners join this practice in the last few years. The last man standing / OG doctor at this location is Alan Perry, MD (family medicine). If I recall correctly, Dr. Kelly took over for another one of the OG doctors at this location: Patrick Coleman, MD (internal medicine). The only other longtime person I still recognize here is Shonda, who works at the exit desk/counter and often wears a phone headset. She's wonderful. Dr. Kelly is a young doctor (in his 30s). He conducted my annual physical differently from Dr. Brown-Saddler. To be clear, I love Dr. Brown-Saddler and would have kept seeing her if she didn't leave. With Dr. Kelly, I felt like I was getting a "reboot" on my physical. He was very thorough and spent more time with me than I expected. I appreciated that. He recorded our conversation on his phone, I believe to aid in dictating notes for my electronic medical record. He reviewed my numbers on the computer screen with me. He introduced new guidance to me. For example, he didn't do a testicular exam / cough test, which Dr. Brown-Saddler always did. Also, Dr. Kelly didn't suggest an A1c test for me, I assume because I'm low risk. He said A1c tests were something Dr. Brown-Saddler did for all of her patients. I told him to keep ordering the A1c test for me because I always had it done and my health insurance covered it at no additional cost. By chance this year, my A1c came back elevated for the first time ever. Time to reduce eating out and Yelping. Less than a week after my appointment, Dr. Kelly sent me a message on MyChart (Epic) summarizing and explaining all of my lab work. Typically (at least, in recent years), Dr. Brown-Saddler would shoot me quick messages like: "As you have seen, your cholesterol level is improved and your other lab results are within normal limits. Keep up the good work!" Real example. She might also include an informative attachment (e.g., tips on how to lower cholesterol). Dr. Kelly's message was probably about two pages long, and, like the exam, was very thorough. Again, I appreciated that. Dr. Brown-Saddler's messages were straight and to the point, telling me exactly what I needed to know. I think both doctors are great, they just do things differently. Also, I saw Dr. Brown-Saddler for 17 years and I've seen Dr. Kelly only once so far, so things could change. Overall, I did think the office experience and quality of care with Dr. Kelly and the rest of the staff at Piedmont Physicians at Atlantic Station was excellent and I plan to return next year for my 20th (!) consecutive year. Note: In recent years, something changed at Piedmont where I can no longer schedule my next physical less than one year after my previous physical. I used to be able to reset the time of year that I get my physical, but not anymore. I'm guessing it has to do with insurance. However, my insurance benefit is on a calendar-year basis, so I don't have to schedule my physicals a year or more apart.
