Dr Dalton managed to acquire Dr. Montana's long list of HIV patients after Montana passed away. That was a tragic mistake. Dalton is all about getting as much money as he can from insurance carriers, namely Medicaire and ADAP. He is totally insensitive to your needs and never really bothers to check to see how you are really doing. If you don't about a quack taking care of your health care, then he's your man. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Dalton for about 9 years; with the wealth of options available in New York City, that means I'm happy with his care. I loved his former office on University Place, which felt about as unlike a typical doctor's office as anyplace I've ever seen; more like a friendly loft space with a kind physician behind it. I'm less happy in his current surroundings, although the offices are now a model of efficiency and modernity. He currently practices at a clinic of W. 17th Street; it can be hard to communicate with reception, internal lines sometimes ring forever unanswered, and the waiting room is often crowded beyond capacity with clinic patients -- however, I've never been kept waiting for a confirmed appointment, and his personal care standards have not relaxed. I put up with these vagaries because he is pretty much a perfect physician for me. He is kind, caring, thoughtful; he listens to questions and concerns and gives clear amswers with useful information. When I've gone to him with an issue outside his scope as an internist, he has always referred me to a specialist for further care, and I've also found myself pleased and comfortable with his network of specialists. I've always felt his approach to medicine to be collaborative; he's never made me feel I've asked a stupid question, or voiced a fivolous concern. He is the kind of doctor who encourages his patients to participate in their own care; no God-complex here. I trust him. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Dalton's for12 years since first being diagnosed with HIV. His care and treatment have been excellent. I also loved his former office. It was friendly and welcoming and more like visiting a friend than going to a Medical office (mostly thanks to Gene F., the receptionist). He indicated that I should see a neurologist and that he wouldn't see me. I asked for a referral, he insisted I didn't need one. I called my insurance company they assured me I definitely need a referral. Dr. Dalton concedes then writes a prescription to a neurologist. I go to the neurologist at which point the neurologist calls my insurance. The insurance insists that the referral can not be written and must be filed electronically. Apparently this is basic procedure, so why doesn't Dr. Dalton know this. It caused me a lot of problems and I received a few hundred dollars in bills my insurance would have otherwise covered. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Dalton for several years, and have always found him to be kind, caring and concerned, and willing to fully discuss and explain any medical issues. He has now left the practice on University Place (which I loved, by the way, for perhaps all the reaons that the first reviewer did not -- I have always been uncomfortable in a traditional medical office or hospital; 99 University Place was a bit like seeing a doctor in a creaky, casual old loft). He has now joined the Center for Comprehensive Care (St. Luke's Roosevelt), and while the facility is new and "typical" once you get past the corwded waiting room, I find it much less welcoming and reassuring than the old offices. His core staff and techs are all still nice, but there appear to be some farily basic employees at reception now, and it's hard to get a call past them to someone who can really help or answer questions. Still, for me, it remains primarily about his excellent care and his kind attitude. read more

Dr. Dalton is very nice and I'm sure he's a decent doctor, but this is not your typical Dr's office. The hardwood floors and antique furniture didn't seem sanitary, nor did the assistant/nurse haphazardly carrying a full red bag of hazardous materials down the hallway dressed in grungy street clothes. After watching the bag of dirty needles go down the hallway, I was seated on an antique velvet chair in a strange room with a strange man and asked to wait for my blood to be drawn and then right there in front of me, they stuck the man and started drawing his blood. I didn't need to see that, so I walked back out to the front waiting room. Definitely won't be going back again. read more

I had a blood clot in my left leg and my foot was swelling up and this bozo told me that I had plantar fasciitis. He tried relentlessly to examine my prostate when I kept telling the fool I had a problem with my leg. His license should be revoked. I forced him to schedule a ultra scan of my leg and subsequently, when I was diagnosed correctly and prescribed Lovenox injections by a real doctor this idiot told me, in his office that I could inject the Lovenox in my arm; and I did as he watched!!!!!. No other real doctor on earth would have given this advice. The arm hurt and all the hair on my arm fell out. You inject Lovenox in your stomach or your buttocks Mr. Dalton! Someone should check his credentials. I wouldn't send a gerbil to this buffoon. If he were the last medical person on earth, I would suggest drawing cards or seeing medicine doctor, better yet Tea leaves!!!!STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY. I HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN EXCEPT I KNOW AND HE KNOWS AN INTERN WOULD HAVE CALLED THIS AND HE BLEW IT!! I WILL SUFFER FROM THIS BAD CALL FOR FOREVER. The staff at the Center for Comprehensive Care were great, but Dr Dalton wasn't. He didn't take a history (on my first visit), failed to renew the prescriptions I saw him about, ordered a flu shot even though I told him I'd had one just two weeks prior, and didn't respond to my requests for lab results. CCC is probably fine, but steer clear of Dr Dalton. Maybe was just overwhelmed, but there are plenty of other (safer) MD's in New York to take a chance on him. read more

This is by far the worst doctor that I have ever been to in my life! I went in with a week long cold, fever, and severe chest pains and this guy didn't even put a stethoscope up to my chest. It took him all of 46 seconds to "welcome" me, ask me of my issues and throw me two scripts that he couldn't even fill in completely ( he told to fill in my name before taking it in to a pharmacy). Then he told me to come back..."whenever." To fully explain this experience, imagine that you want a night at a four star exquisite Mexican restaurant and instead end up with a night at Taco Bell.... diarrhea and all! read more

Both my wife and I have been patients of DR Dalton since our previous physician, Dr Montana passed his patients to him. From the beginning Dr Dalton was great. He took the time to get to know us, and continued authorizing our maintenance meds while were were working out insurance changes. As people are different, so too are doctors. Fortunately it did not take us long to fall into a common argot with Dr Dalton. One thing I have learned in my 54 years is that no one can read minds, doctors included. If a patient does not provide information, or as often happens, withholds information, it is much more difficult for the Dr to assess their health needs. I find Dr Dalton to be intelligent and articulate, and therefore easy for me to communicate with. I imagine the reviewers here who were unhappy with Dr D. have not considered their own failures to know themselves and fully, accurately communicate their situations. The writing skills they demonstrate in their reviews support this. After teaming with Dr Dalton on my health for the last six or so years, at 54 I am in the best health I have been my whole life! I don't think it is fair for a fine doctor to have his reputation slurred by a few people who fail to take responsibility for their health, fail to communicate their symptoms and overall state accurately, or fully.
