I would be very careful before visiting this office. I walked out of the exam with red eyes and blurriness in my vision that has persisted for weeks. The doctor seems to be trying to perform trauma on patients to diagnose them with false diseases. I am afraid my eyes are permanently damaged and am seeking an ophthalmologist to make sure I won't lose vision from the trauma caused. Also, Dr. Patricia Chang is no longer working there which I thought nothing of but should be a red flag for you. Three back to back reviews of this practice that say the same thing cannot be a coincidence. read more

Totally agree with Johnny T. The prescriptions isn't accurate and now my vision is blurry. No matter contact lens or glasses. I couldn't believe it. That's one word on train platforms but I see 2 lines. I can't read numbers in front of my desktop (glad that I'm not bank teller). I can't even read the words on my TV. My son had an unfortunate fist visit to this office. front receptionist was not helpful at helping my son figure out insurance coverage. Examination área was not clean, doctor Patricia was no where to be seen. an older guy (Dr's husband) was there smelling of smoke. Younger guy did most of the examination on my son. My son walked out of office without a ores y for contact lenses that he desperately needs. Office asked told him he would be charged $120 just for fitting and y. We are calling VSP to double check on those charges. very disappointed, especially for the bad service. Not coming back! read more

Appreciate the exam on Saturday and straightforward news. I trust Dr. Chang's experience and did not feel rushed. My eyes got worse, boo. I loved the cool machine that took a picture of my retina. Luckily no tumors! I paid $39 for this with my VSP insurance. Ask about the new promo "ultimate lens package" I got 2 lenses for price of 1! Good till end of year! Got new Modo frame which was light as a feather and did not touch my cheeks (fat cheeks girl here!). Glad I used my VSP benefit for the year. read more

Dr. Chang is very detailed and thorough... The electronic processes there are out of date and her front desk staff sometimes are nice, other times they push me to find someone else because of poor service. I've only been going to Dr. Chang for a couple years but my first visit was the reason I kept coming back. Alicia, front office lady, is very friendly and knowledgeable about their products and pricing. She's very quick and can answer questions in a flash! Mike, on the other hand, is the reason I will not be coming back. He's too much into the selling aspect of the business and makes my visits unpleasant. I ask simple questions and get 20-minute explanations. My second to last visit, my appointment lasted over an hour and a half. My final visit, was to inquire about the pricing for some frames I wanted to get new lenses on. Maybe it was my fault, but I just had ZERO patience going in there because I knew exactly how Mike was going to treat the situation. I'm sorry but their best interests are not in the patient, it's all for profit. I understand that they need to make money, but they can still be considerate at the same time.Thanks, but no thanks! I'm lazy when it comes to my health. I don't remember the last time I went to get my eyes checked, but leaving my glasses in Hong Kong was the perfect catalyst to getting it done. Working full time doesn't make it easier to go for appointments so I was super happy when they could fit me in for a Saturday. Located in probably the busiest part of town, it's rather easy to look for a parking spot. Appointments take from 40 mins up to an hour, so any of the 2 hour parking spots will work. The office itself is sleek and clean. Very organized with different types of frames placed around for patients to try on. Once I walked in, I was greeted right away by one of the staff members, Nick (who is quite easy on the eyes. Holla fo' a dollaaaa). Since I'm a new patient to their office, I had to fill out some forms but nothing too complicated and the whole process was very easy and straightforward. I also didn't have to wait long to start on my exam, which is a major plus in my books because I really hate when doctors keep their patients waiting. Dr. Chang was awesome. She was very thorough and answered all the different questions I had. I've been with my previous optometrist for the last 15 years so it was very nice to get a new and different perspective. read more

My wife went to get a contact lens refill order and was rejected. The front desk staff refused and demanded an new extended eye exam, claiming it is too close to the expiration date of the current prescription, even though its well within the 1 year prescription validity time frame. She wanted to have a temporay set and was told they don't have any spare set unless she does an extended eye exam. We feel they are not looking after patient's wellbeing and just looking after their business profit. read more

I never wore glasses until I was 20 years old!! I have horrible astigmatism so I decided it was time for contact lenses.. Well I initially was fitted in Florida (where I went to college and grad school) and my contacts were so uncomfortable.. They felt like sand paper! I thought I would never be able to wear contacts comfortably and not to mention I couldn't even see that well in my contact lenses!! Then I came to this Optometrist office - man oh man I was saved. It did take multiple visits - I'd say about 5+ visits for me to get my prescription and contact lenses 100% on track, but it was worth it. The doctor was so diligent about checking material, the way the contacts fit on my eye, how sharply it was fixing my astigmatism - I mean she really knew her stuff!! They also take my Blue Shield of California Insurance - through MES, which was even more of a plus!! I highly recommend this office! Its no, Clear Optometry (San Mateo) with some fancy FroYo and a Coffee Bar, but what mattered is they fixed my horrible vision and were able to get my prescription almost perfect. read more

Front desk lady is passive aggressive. Came in for a routine eye contact exam, after which I was offered a few different colors of contacts. The new contacts are free samples btw provided by contact lense companies to test out. I came back and requested 2 more sets of one particular type, when the front desk lady insisted I had to buy a box. To put things in perspective I already spent more than 400 dollars on a year's worth at this place, but will absolutely not be coming back due to her shitty attitude. read more

I have visited dr. Patricia for more than a decade but im planning to switch another eye doctor. The former receptionist was very nice n caring. He helped u out as much as he could. However, the new receptionist is rude n has a little attitude. Your call only annoy her. I tried to make an appointment. She didnt tell me to wear contact lens 2 hours before appointment. She didnt tell me that i need to take 2 hours to dilate my eyes. Glad that i still remembered it. Otherwises, i took a day off for nothing but needed to reschedule again. I called her again to re-confirm about dilate. Of course, she was rude again. That attitude has been a couple times already. You deserve a better eye doctor and u can access her easily since u have paid a lot on insurance already. read more

I don't go here anymore. Given up. Asked for price for a pair of sunglasses which took seven attempts. They were short staffed I am told so I gave them time. They did not stock Ray-Ban at their Millbrae shop so they had to call and asked their sister store. I am a local Millbrae resident and thus a little wait is not an issue. I like supporting local businesses. On this very incident, first time I went to the shop. Second time was a phone call to the shop for a follow up. Third time I went to the shop and fourth time I called. Fifth time I went to the shop and sixth time I called the shop. Finally they called me and I was out of the country but I called them from England. After my efforts, I even called from England today and I spoke to Mike who tried to help. He said he left a voicemail on my mobile phone which I did not have access to since I am now in England. Fine and now it is about say five months in from the day of my first enquiry. Mike wants to explain many things but not exactly what I wanted to know. All I wanted was what I had to pay net of my insurance. Mike had to explain all the modeling math details as if I wanted to know. Okay, USA insurance can be complicated and I believe most sensible people would agree it remains so. Frankly I just wanted to have a simple answer like $100 or whatever it would have cost. He asked me to hold even though I told him I was in England. I am generally very patient when I see reasonable logic but this time it was too much to bear. With an international call so my thought was this is not worth my while. It is of my opinion and my opinion only that this practice lacks a little business sensitivity and therefore I would not recommend as a result. For other clients of theirs perhaps it may work out great. As for my future needs, I am no longer with this practice for sure. The Dr. I saw was not the principal Dr. Chang. She was good this I am pleased about and wish to add. It is just their front line team is a bit hit and miss. Perhaps nice people but front line poor customer service overall. read more

Dr. Patricia Chang's office actually employs various optometrists. I usually see Dr. Jocelyn Liao for my eye exams and I've been going to her for years. I was told she was still on maternity leave so last Saturday I met with Dr. Le in the Belmont office who was extremely thorough and nice. She read all of my history files and asked specific questions about the comfort in my contact lenses. Dr. Jocelyn Liao is opening up her own office soon in San Mateo. It's called "Winking Bee" and grand opening is estimated April 2012. I can't wait to check out her new space and will be transferring my files over to her when she's up and running. read more

She has certainly provided good advice in particular for how to deal with my allergy eyes. Dr. Chang's staff is also very friendly and professional. They provide advice about the glasses and contact lenses they offer. I very much appreciate their patience to answer my many questions about my vision coverage and out of pocket costs. While the OD was very friendly and patient, the business practices of this place are questionable. My insurance covers a basic eye exam for glasses. I was told to return for my contact lenses fitting follow up and complete my eye exam at that time, which I agreed to. I paid my co-payment and then was told that in order for them to release my new contact lenses prescription that I would have to pay an additional $100. If I want my old prescription, it would be$50. WTF??? So let's see, the government requires that eye prescriptions be valid for a 1 year period only so that people will have no choice but to order eyewear for their most current prescription! This place is backwards! I left w/o returning to do the rest of my eye exam, so I basically wasted my annual eye exam and copayment at this place. I went to For Your Eyes Only on Broadway and Burlingame and got an updated contact lens prescription for $35. Stay away from this shady, greedy place!!! read more
