French Lick Springs Hotel somehow manages to feel both grand and incredibly relaxing. Everywhere you turn there's another detail worth appreciating--from the breathtaking domed atrium and historic architecture to the beautifully maintained grounds that practically beg you to take a leisurely stroll. The wraparound porch quickly became one of our favorite places. We spent a ridiculous amount of time rocking in the chairs, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking in the peaceful views. It felt like stepping back to a time when people weren't in such a hurry. One thing I didn't expect was how convenient it was to explore the area. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. We rode over to the casino resort, spent hours walking the grounds and exploring the restaurants, and on the way back the driver even dropped a few guests off at CVS and simply told them to call when they were ready for pickup. It's little touches like that that make you feel genuinely taken care of. Our room service breakfast was another highlight. Everything arrived hot and beautifully presented, from the biscuits and gravy to the fresh fruit oatmeal and perfectly cooked breakfast. Starting the morning with breakfast by the window overlooking those incredible grounds was hard to beat. The hotel itself has so many little spaces to discover. We wandered through the historic bathhouse, found a billiards room tucked away, admired the architecture, and never once felt rushed to get back to our room. Every hallway seemed to tell another piece of the hotel's history. And yes... The robes absolutely deserve their own paragraph. They're still some of the most comfortable hotel robes I've ever worn, and I'm standing by my original statement--you won't want to take them off. French Lick is one of those rare places where the destination and the hotel are equally memorable. We left already talking about coming back during another season just to experience it all again. If you're debating whether this place is worth the trip... It absolutely is. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Rooms: 5/5 Grounds: 10/5

As the planner of the group, there were a lot of things I was disappointed in but some great…read morethings. There was a group of 18 of us for a friends bachelor party. First the great things. Sultans run is one of the coolest courses I've ever seen and everyone at that course was super friendly and made for a great experience. Even when we were running couple minutes behind, the starter gave us great vibes. It's definitely worth the extra 30 minutes to go there rather than Donald Ross. Second, Phil at the links course was outstanding and was someone who wanted to make sure our experience was great. Curious to see what the course will look like once the renovations end. The disappointments start with the lackluster effort. Besides Phil, nobody seemed to want to make our experience stand out. Just the smallest thing would've been appreciated and I even asked if anything extra could do for the bachelor and I was met with nothing. The person who I talked to (will refrain from naming him) did great at helping me plan everything but failed to mention that when you get a group package that it's not really at a discount rate. I'm not kidding you there is literally no discount so it's basically false advertising saying you get a group rate. I was basically being told I needed to do a group package (now I know it was just to make things easier for him and didn't benefit us at all) One late add on even found his room cheaper online than for what we got. If I hadn't done my research, multiple people would have paid double their price because they were unable to play the most expensive course yet would've been charged as if they had played. This brings me to the second part where Pete dye course is very cool but the price you pay plus caddy fee and tip is outrageous. There is no reason anyone should be paying over $500 for a round for that course in middle of nowhere. Instead they are giving u a crappy whiskey and some glasses in a nice box to try and put a bow on being way overpriced. It's a great course but it is ridiculously over priced. Lastly the food within the resort is very ok and also overpriced. If you go across the street you get way better food at the steakhouse and the sports bar and a better environment. Nothing special about the Casino either. It's pretty small and has a small bar too

West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

Just wish the services for caring for kids started at younger ages (maybe potty trained and older?) It will be years before my husband and I can stay at this hotel and have a true 'date day or night' and our kids are five and three. Honestly they'd get more money out of us if they offered babysitting for younger kiddos!! Food here is very standard and nothing to write home about. That applies to every restaurant off property we tried in the area. Activities we tried and enjoyed 1. Kids pony ride 2. Carriage ride. 3. Mommy and kiddo pedicure (expensive for what you get but also standard pricing for hotels). 4. The free!! Trolley train ride to the sister property. Activities are easy to book over the phone ahead of the stay and easy to do at the front desk or calling from your room. Very excited about the new bowling alley building they are almost finished with next to the hotel. The stables area is very picturesque with a large covered 'patio'. Patio seems too small a word. More like covered event space. Wedding perfect. Room was clean. Beds are not very comfortable. Killed my back and my husband's. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for the four of us. It had two balconies overlooking the atrium which I will never, ever book again. Too loud! All night long too loud! Even from the sixth floor, even with earplugs. Only exterior view next time for a stay. I would return next year for all of the holiday events. My kids loved this trip because of all the new experiences they had. Lots of things to do in the area that get you outdoors. Lovely part of Indiana in the Autumn (when we visited).

I would have stayed there but at $269 or $419 a night or whatever it was running, hmm, no thanks. So I found Big Locust where the rooms are more a modest $75-95 a night. The $95 a night room, The Locust Room is what we chose. It was so nice because basically we had the whole upstairs to ourselves. It was very private. The hosts were very patient and understanding and easy to work with. I would say this is more of a no frills down to earth place, but very comfortable. French Lick was a bit of a drive, but not bad. Also, downtown Paoli was nice to have nearby. Do be prepared that this is out in the middle of nowhere. Our phones didn't get signal, and there was no WIFI to be had except at the resorts. However, that made more relaxation. Also, there was always the resort nearby for what remnant of a night life French Lick has or a Starbucks or visiting the winery.

We visited in July and overall had a wonderful stay! The atmosphere is incredibly family-friendly,…read moreand the campground itself is clean with so much to do. You can enjoy the swimming pool, mini-golf, volleyball court, walking trails, and the best golf cart parades. The main bathhouse was nice, the camp store is very well-stocked, and the snack bar area is super convenient. You also have the option to buy tickets directly for their onsite waterpark, and our pups really enjoyed the dedicated dog park. The biggest perk is definitely the location. Being so close to Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is unbeatable. As far as value goes, the pricing is good if you manage to book during a Black Friday promo. Otherwise, the extra fees really start to stack up. The mandatory resort fee covers Wi-Fi, select activities, and facility access, but on top of that, you are hit with Indiana sales tax on the rent, plus they tax the golf cart rental rate too. Most frustrating of all is the absurd "site lock fee"--if you don't pay extra just to lock it in, your site number is subject to change prior to arrival. A few tips and areas for improvement: * The Shuttle Service & Safety: While the free shuttle to Holiday World is great, during peak times (like a Saturday in July) it is extremely slow. The limited buses get incredibly overcrowded. Small children should really sit on an adult's lap rather than taking up a full seat so more people can fit. More importantly, the buses need to be checked regularly for maintenance, especially low tires. We witnessed one overly crowded shuttle where the tire was almost completely flat--it was so bad that my family and many other guests all noticed and felt it was a major safety hazard. With as much money as this campground charges, they really need to invest in more buses or even open-air trams to handle the crowds safely. * Golf Carts: Make sure to book a golf cart in advance (while making your reservation if available). If you wait until your stay, you likely won't be able to get one--and you will want one because of how hilly it gets once you pass the check-in point. That said, the rental carts themselves could use better maintenance, and the strict rule of only 1 cart per site feels outdated; larger families really need two. * RV Spots & Noise: Some of the RV spots are a pretty tight fit and can be quite unlevel, so bring leveling blocks and patience. We have never had a problem with noise here, but I always make sure to choose a pull-through lot off the main roads to stay away from the heaviest traffic. Given how much the costs have gone up with all the extra fees, combined with the frustrating peak-season shuttle issues, the cons are starting to outweigh the pros for us. Because of this, we are honestly on the fence about continuing our annual trip here. It's a fun place, but management needs to address these logistics if they expect families to keep paying premium prices.

The staff are friendly and are welcoming, but it is so dark that the colors of walls etc needs a update. The unit we had was 97A, 97B so we had both upper and lower units. Let's start the lower unit 97A it had a large TV in the main area and no TV in the bedroom. The cabinets were from the 70's and need to be refinished or replaced from the kitchen to the bathrooms and even the drawers that hold things. The bar stools are fabric and are stained and look disgusting they need to replace them with bar stools that match the table in that unit in 97A. Modern chairs. Couches were up to date pain for needs to be done and done properly. It looks like they have just painted over old paint and stuff never really sanded and replaced anything was issues. Also, the bathroom toilets are so low and small that it's like toddler toliets in church schools not ok for adults of any height or size. The shower needs work, and remodeling it is gross, and the drain is completely hard water and lime rusted and crusted super nasty if you actually wanted to use that half Jacuzzi tub. 97B the upper unit that dinner table is out dated and the chairs match the downstairs bar stools so at some point the replaced things half way and mixed matched stuff that is pretty bad also both stoves are old and outdated but the fridges were ok on both levels dishes were ok but again lots of mixed matched stuff and each floor had one shot glass per unit that I found funny. The upstairs door or glass has dew or water damage in-between the panels probably from the Jacuzzi upstairs that can seat 2 or 3 grown people however the hot water runs out a quarter way filling the tub and takes so long to heat back up the water level will drain it self before it can actually be filled properly. Design flaw or need better water heater for the unit to actually use the Jacuzzis either one. Same thing for up stairs cabinets needs updates lighting seems dark either bright white bulbs or med white bulbs would help make the place look more vibrant they Yellow bulbs with paint color make it seem dark and ugly once the sun sets just depressing. You can easily take a few of these recommendations even if just updating the stained yellow lamp shades on the lamps and changing the yellow bulbs to fresh lamp top shades and led bright white bulbs would make the place so much better. Right now, you have a few bright white led bulbs and mix matched yellow bulbs. Not only does it not match, but it shows you could give it potential with such minimal changes. I'm still on-site bit don't want to be bothered this is my shared opinion and none of these things can be fixed overnight or while I'm here I want to enjoy my time unbothered so no point in bothering the front desk and the binders that are passed out could be updated to smaller information with those binder part showing restaurants and area attractions etc that should be kept in the room on the table in a separate book that stays there showing all the things to do. Not lugged around forced to check in and drop off when you leave just leave a book version in the rooms with all that second half of the binder and cut the stuff someone has to carry around down. So that is my experience it's quiet people were friendly, but the Villas them selves I'm sure charge their owners for upgrades, and they need to actually do so. Upgrade the investments, people! More will actually want to come.
