This office is wonderful! I would highly recommend Dr. Paterno to anyone seeking orthodontic care. My child and I are both patients there, one for braces, one for aligners. We have both had excellent experiences. The progress that my child has made during treatment so far surprised and impressed our new dentist, who said that Dr. Paterno does amazing work. Dr. Paterno pays attention to detail and takes care to not move on to the next step until things are exactly where they should be. She explains all of the steps of the process thoroughly and clearly. We have never had a problem getting something fixed in between appointments as needed. Everyone in the office is very kind and helpful. They work very well with patients with anxiety, reassuring and explaining as they go. They all genuinely care about their patients and families. The office is friendly and welcoming. The Paterno orthodontic team is fabulous. Skilled, patient, thoughtful, attentive and kind. Dr.Paterno is a smart orthodontist whose treatment plans are well thought out. She combines artistry and science to help create beautiful smiles. Our girls have nothing but wonderful things to say about their experience. She is transparent about all aspects of treatment, including the financials, so there are no surprises. She masterfully corrected our younger daughter's teeth. After 10 years of thumb sucking and a history of dental trauma, many practices would have seen her as a money grab. Sadly, we were very disappointed with Dr. Paterno and her office. Our concerns about our child's lower expander were consistently dismissed, and not just brushed off but dismissed with a level of condescension that made it clear questions weren't welcome. At one point, both my wife and I were essentially talked to as if we couldn't follow basic instructions. The lower expander would loosen after adjustments. That's not some wild, made-up scenario. A quick look online at ortho sources reveals it's a known potential problem with Schwarz/transverse removable expanders that rely on thread friction alone to maintain the expanded position. Instead of acknowledging that, Dr. Paterno insisted the problem couldn't exist. Interesting conclusion, considering we had zero issues operating the upper expander. Apparently we're competent on the top half, but not the bottom. To make things work, I ended up taking matters into my own hands and safety-wiring the jackscrew after each rotation just to prevent the device from rotating backwards/collapsing in the mouth. I didn't even bother sharing this because it was clear any pushback would just be met with more condemnation from Dr. Paterno. On the administrative side, things weren't much better. No pre-authorization or estimate of insurance benefits upfront, which led to delays and confusion about coverage. At one point, the office had over $300 of our money sitting as a credit on my child's account due to overpayment but then later refused to release retainers for my wife while waiting on a $210 insurance payment. So holding patient money because of overpayment? Fine. Continuing care while insurance processes? Not so much. That's a tough one to justify and doesn't seem like a business operating in good faith. Being in business sometimes requires waiting on a payment. We'll be taking our business elsewhere and would recommend others think carefully before committing here. _________ Dr. Paterno -- I urge you to to seriously consider this review. I made an appointment for what I was told would be a free consultation to see if I needed a new retainer or a bite guard .I was concerned because my tooth had gotten a chip in the enamel where the retainer hooks on. The doctor said Idid not need new retainer s or bite guard, that the retainer would not create a chip. I proceeded to leave when I was charged $25.00. I said to the receptionist it was supposed to be a free consultation, she said the doctor was charging me $25.00. She was in with me less than 10 minutes and didnt even really look at the fit. My son's teeth were super crooked when we first met Dr. Paterno. After 14 months, his teeth are now straight. We chose Invisalign and it was a great option for him. He was super lazy about wearing the bands, but Dr. Paterno has a knack for working with stubborn teenage boys. read more

I selected this office for my child to receive orthodontic services because I was pleased with the consultation. The staff was professional - it was clean, bright and seemed as good as any other option in the area. The treatment went well and in just over a year, the braces were off. This is when the experience declined, which interestingly coincides with us also being paid in full. My child misplaced a retainer but continued to wear the other one. When I tried getting an appointment to address the situation they suddenly weren't as accommodating as when he was in active treatment. By the time we were able to be seen, my child's teeth had shifted slightly due to his not having a retainer to wear. However, when Dr. Paterno examined him she commented on the fact that he didn't bring his retainer with him to the visit and claimed that both the top and bottom teeth were compromised and that they would need to be repositioned at the mere cost of $2900.00 (Half the price of his original treatment plan. I was taken aback by her diagnosis because...1) he has been wearing the one retainer which was NOT lost - it was the one SHE fitted him with which still fits perfectly. So, needless to say I was very disappointed. When we returned home, I had him try it on again and examined it. It fits like a glove, so I'm confused why she claimed that both upper and lower teeth were less than par when it was a reflection of her own work. 2) The way she spoke to us seemed accusatory - when she pointed out that he didn't bring his retainer to this or his last visit (I really think, she asserted both top and bottom teeth shifted simply because she was passing judgement and didn't believe that he'd really just forgot to bring the retainer but assumed he'd lost both of them). Anyhow, with all the orthodontists out there... you might want to consider how you're going to be treated AFTER you are paid in full. In my opinion, what occurred bordered on fraudulent practices at worst and at best obscured judgement on Dr. Paterno's part. read more
