Patel Brothers is my favorite grocery for ingredients for my Indian recipes. The store is always pristine inside with beautiful vegetables and fruit. Many of the vegetables are hard to find. This location also has a bakery that serves fresh Indian pastries. There was a line of patrons at the bakery to grab lunch items. Patel has the largest and best selection of spices in the area. The spices are reasonably priced. The store is easy in and out and there is plenty of parking. Checkout was a tad slow because they only had one clerk at the registers. read more

I had so much fun checking out this second centra Indiana Patel Brothers location this past weekend for our international supper club. We were on the hunt for okra, a few snacks and spices and my guilty pleasure of some Indian deserts in the freezer section. I was delightfully surprised to find such an expansive selection of dried grains and beans as well. Mental note for future needs! I'd describe this as a medium sized grocery with a small cafe counter in the back serving up samosas and other treats. The grocery was quite organized and clean with an impressive produce section. Have driven by more than a few times but hadn't stopped in and glad I finally did today. The store is clean and bright and the aisles are so well organized and neat. Ethnic stores are one of my favorite places to shop because they transport me back home. I definitely will be back to shop some more. read more

They have an big parking lot, very big and CLEAN store and everything is very well organized. Well-stocked Indian grocery. Has veggies, and many Indian-focused foods. Other shoppers will enjoy quality and large sizes of spices that they pay a fortune for at other stores. Bulk chilis, peanuts, and many cooks spices can be found here at very reasonable prices. Produce is good, and bulk prices on things like mint, dill, etc can be found. I go here frequently. It's not expansive, and items are easily found-- but shop different prices if you can't differentiate quality. Often, the low-priced items are just fine and the brands don't mean much. If you'd ever thought of making your own Indian/South Asia dishes, ALL of the ingredients can be found here, including rice through ground fenugreek and more. read more

The best selection and cheapest produce in the entire city. My favorite store for produce. I haven't been since they relocated from 56th to 38th St. This location is easy to get in and out of there lots of parking lot space. This building is very spacious. Very clean. Very well organized. They carry any kind of fruit and vegetable imaginable. And the cheapest prices around. Avocados and lemons are two for a dollar. Bunches of cilantro and parsley were $.25 each. Cauliflower was $1.50 each. Broccoli $.79 a pound. Just a couple things that I can think of. But you can check their website for their weekly ad. But very very reasonable prices. This location has a galley area in the back where you can watch them make things and they have various things prepackaged to select from. Lots of fresh bread, wraps etc options. A large snack bull section just 4.99 a lb.Two rows of freezer selections. I could think of a single Indian item they do not carry. read more

Fantastic Indian grocery on the near-northwest side of Indy, off of 38th Street. Patel Brothers is a big enough store that you will find everything that you need, but not so big that you will be overwhelmed. As a quasi-newbie to Indian cooking, my first visit was slightly overwhelming. However, I was able to pick out some awesome spice mixes - for example, mixes to make my own Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Curry - in addition to stocking up on Naan, Indian sweets, and frozen samosas. The prices are fantastic as well. My last stop in Patel Brothers ended up with three stuffed-full bags of delightful groceries - and I only spent $18.00. My father is originally from India, and I remember going to the local Indian stores with my mother as a kid. They all had the same curry smell; most of the time they were extremely dusty; and they were usually jam-packed and very disorganized. But it was a small price to pay to get goodies like mango pickle, lentils, and samosas in suburban Boston at that time. Which brings me to Patel Brothers, a spacious, clean, well-stocked and well-organized store where I can get all of the familiar staples and treats - and more - at very decent prices. Fried spicy snack mixture. Big sacks of rice and lentils. Ziplocs full of freshly-rolled chapatis. Spices of all kinds in packets of all sizes. Tasty frozen versions of all of my favorites - chana masala, aloo parathas, and saag paneer. And even Bollywood bootlegs - the latest films are available on DVD for just $1.50 each! read more

Probably the best stocked Indian grocery store in town. Unlike the India plaza across the street the inventory moves at a quicker rate. However they do break the law by selling Indian products not marked for export. For example they are peddling coconut oil (for hair and skin use) that is meant to be sold in India. The maximum retail price converted to usd is less than $1. They are selling it for $2.99! So I knocked off 2 stars for their unethical and likely illegal conduct. Patel Brothers is a small Indian grocery store, but it had everything I needed. Lines are long and slow, and they have a decent selection of produce. If you've ever been to another Indian store anywhere ever, it's not much different from that, so I'll keep this review short. read more

I'm very grateful for a Yelp search which found this nice family owned grocery off Lafayette Rd. It's a very clean, very well lit Indian grocery but for a smaller building it sure has a lot to offer. Upon entering you see they have a really good fresh produce section. It was my first time in an Indian store so I loved seeing the various new to me fruits & veggies. A small section toward the front has several different personal care products, jewelry & some large boxes of a variety of incense I'd like to buy the next time I'm there. If you do much Indian cooking or would like to experiment with a new cuisine this grocery would make an excellent stop. read more

I cook a lot of Indian food and have been looking for a good spot to stock up on spices and other necessary items. Definitely found it and more with Patel Brothers today. Tara M. summarized my thoughts exactly regarding the general layout of the store. Something else I would add, Patel Brothers was extremely well lit which isn't typically the case with family owned markets. I also felt like the store was adequately staffed and I didn't need to wait long to check out. My first trip here was because one of my friends from Bloomington requested I make a stop for him. It ended up being a great discovery. I went on a Friday night at around 630pm. I went there this weekend and the lady over at the register doesn't understand or speak English. I asked her about indian bread/partha, first of all she couldn't understand and when she did, she couldn't speak a single line in English to tell me that she doesn't know about it. Please, you can hire some English speakers specially for front line's..and don't rely on cheap labor from back home who you work on cash! read more

Please check your receipt and items before you leave the shop!! This incident happened to me recently. They had charged two bags of 20 pound rice added to my receipt (total of $21.98), which I never bought. After I drove half a block I glanced at the receipt and was surprised to find this new addition. I then came back to the shop and asked the cashier about this. They immediately said it was done by mistake and refunded the money. I told them mistake happens only once, but not twice. They said that they may not have billed two other products I purchased. I had them come to my car and check item by item and found that all items were billed and was in the receipt. I don't know whether it was done intentionally or by mistake, but I hope it was not the former case. read more

The place is clean. Fresh vegetables at reasonable price. Not very crowded. Packaged Indian items maybe expensive.
