I completely understand that not every store can carry everything -- that's fair enough -- but the way it was handled left a bad taste. Instead of a polite "sorry, we don't have that," I was spoken to quite rudely, as if I was a nuisance for even asking. I've been to plenty of hobby shops where staff are friendly and happy to point you in the right direction, even if they don't have what you need. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I get that people have off days, but when customers come in excited about their hobby, a little courtesy goes a long way. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for especially from an amazing hobby store.

There aren't many craft shops in Adelaide ... that's a fact. There are even less that sell weaving…read moresupplies, and now that Bellatextiles has closed, I wanted to find a place that sold Ashford products. Craft Alley Designs is run by Ali out of her shed, and is open when you need her to be open! I needed a heddle for rigid heddle loom, and thought I'd contact her as I'd rather buy locally than order online. I messaged her through her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Craft.Alley.Designs?ref=ts&fref=ts), she ordered it in for me, and said I could pick it up whenever I liked. Craft Alley Designs mainly stocks knitting wool (Ashford and Opal were the two stand-outs for me, as they are not commercially available), as well as a lot of knitting needles, felting supplies and kits, and wool for spinning. She can order in Ashford products from NZ when you need them. I will definitely be back! She is at McLaren Flat, just out of McLaren Vale (the continuation of Kangarilla Road).

In fact, it's almost a bit of an antique store. In amongst tools and hardware of all sorts are wall hooks, books, tables, teacups and evena spinning wheel! There were a number of things which caught my eye, in particular a gorgeous blue table and some large metal flowers. Everything looked clean and in good shape for selling. Though not necessarily cheap, their prices seemed reasonable to me given the quality of mose of the wares. If you are looking for tools, this is a good place to go - they have heaps. There were many shovels and garden tools, some ladders etc. I would recommend this place if you are looking to redecorate your home or add a rustic feeling. I also suggest checking out this little gem if you love vintage shopping! There is a relaxed, quirky atmosphere and plently of eye-catching wares! The owners were lovely to talk to, and happy to show me around the shop. I really liked how this adds to the little bundle of business in Woodside. It feels right at home and being a little different to most second-hand stores in the area gives it a bit of an edge. It definitely suits the atmosphere of the Adelaide Hills. It is on the main street, but set back, so keep that in mind or you might walk straight past it! Highly recommend going for a browse! Loved it.

I've imported a few from Japan over the years, mostly for obscure things like Samurai Pizza Cats, then I discovered this place. While there are no Pizza Cats here (those models have long been out of production, I just pick them up on Japanese auction sites) they have an impressive selection of models. From tanks to anime it's all here in its box ready for you to build. They supply everything, from glue to paint and can also offer advice. They also supply Scalextric (or other racing set) parts, and have a nice model train set on display. I always wanted a model train set as a kid, and envisioned something along the lines of what they have here. Looking back, what I wanted was never achievable, which may be why model trains tend to be the hobby of older people. There's a lot to do here, and a lot to keep you busy. The prices are reasonable, maybe a little bit less than some other places I know of that sell models. If you walk through the doors of Hobby Habit don't expect to leave empty handed.

I've managed to limit myself mainly to building static models, but the call of the remote-controlled planes just seems to get a bit louder every year. The other thing that I'm drawn to more and more as the years go by, is the phenomenon that seems to be model trains. The attention to detail is just astounding. I really like this shop. The staff are really helpful and full of good ideas if you're piecing something together and you're a bit stuck on how to proceed. They've got plenty of paints and that sort of thing, too. I think this is an awesome shop, and could spend hours in here.

I still know exactly where it is, what it has and why I always go there. They stock some great gifts for any adult, especially ones for special birthdays, like 40th, 18th, etc. Plus they have plenty of funny silly stuff you could give almost anyone with a sense of humour, plenty of drinking stuff like stands, mugs, etc. The walls are filled pretty much with limited edition prints of various descriptions. They have sport and plenty of music related ones. They are really good and quite well priced for what they are. They also have some great novelty stuff, especially the novelty phones they stock. They also have games, novelty t-shirts, some jewellery, watches and more. You need to go look. Most of their items are adult based items, although some just funny whilst others may be a little naughty. But all great fun!

I found a fantastic RC hobby shop right smack along Goodwood Road. Model Flight has been around for…read more30 years and carries an extensive stock of RC models, products and accessories. Take your pick from planes, trucks, cars, boats, helicopters, gliders...this is a haven for the big boys and the little champs! A fan of RC helicopters (thanks to my sons), and having bought one some months back from a toy store, I couldn't help but peruse their collection here. A Twister Micro Ninja Helicopter was priced at $29.99 and the most expensive model, Thunder Tiger, fetched a price of $495. Yikes! Just how we women ponder over rows of shoes, handbags or rack of clothes, I can now relate to how men would salivate over shelves of smooth and curvy steel shaped RC. It's a lot to take really and I would just pick any model and take it immediately to the counter. But I've been told by that cost, maintenance, frequency plus age group plays an important role in buying the models here. Who would have known! I found it hard to leave this shop with my sons in tow. I still think it's a perfect place to leave your men and children here, while you head out and shop and spend an hour ir two in the nearby spa centre.

The great thing about getting your toy from Model Flight is that when you crash it (dont worry, it's inevitable) you can get replacement parts right away. This is good for impatient people such as myself, I don't like waiting a week or so until I can fly my SR 120 Helicopter again. It's fun even for just a browse, Christmas is coming up and there are models to suit every budget and lots of hand advice from the staff there who are just as geeky as any customer. Can be a bad idea to bring the kids in here, the constant nagging is enough to drive anyone another half crazy, especially boys. My brother just bought this crazy big RC Helicopter which can do barrel rolls, oh the joyous fun!!
