When the club relocated to Nailsea, the upgrade was anything but subtle. The new club is one of the best in the region, with gym facilities, male and female changing rooms and a double bar upstairs with a huge conference room. The club is great, the people are fantastic, and the food is er the food is for rugby players who just went through 80 minutes of enough hell not to care. The club always holds an annual beer & cider festival which is absolutely brilliant, and has various events throughout the year with a particularly good fireworks display at around guy fawkes time. It has a huge car park and a great place to play or watch a bit of rugby, and if you want to join a boxing or running club, then this a great place to start. For all the facilities Nailsea & Backwell has to offer, I think a visit to their website is well worth the time.

Thanks to the efforts of many people, a great day was had by all participants of the fishing match; even if the fish weren't very plentiful at Bullock Farm, Kingston Seymour. However, the cafe at Bullock Farm did a nice line in bocon baps. Mine was brought to my peg, by our runner for the match, Chloe Faiers. May the Salami tradition continue for many years to come; it was good to see youngsters participating in the match. Many thanks to Paul and Glenn for walking the lake banks, in case someone got pulled in by a huge fish (it didn't happen), to issue yellow and red cards as appropriate, and conducting the weigh in, at match end. Thanks also to the Daces for all their work in making a great day.

This club is just such a place, literally hidden between Marlborough and Sandringham Road - you don't even notice that it's there, which is remarkable given the size of it. There are both men and women's bowling teams that play both competitive and friendly games. Penylan Bowling Club now also supports the Cardiff Bridge club which meets on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. They have over 150 members, and it's a great social club. Both of these games are usually associated with more mature people, but I there are a lot of younger members here. The two clubs often hold social events like barbeques which often feature live music and dancing, and occasionally include a game of bingo.

Aces Bar, formerly Avon Combined Services Club, is part of a dying breed, the last of its kind,…read moreespecially in this part of town: The working men's club, with proper locals & regulars and decor untouched since 1974. Obviously this bar is open to the public now, but it has that real old style social club feel to it. You feel like you're a private member of some group or another just by ordering a pint. I love it here; it reminds me of the clubs you used to go to when you were growing up, like your local football or rugby club. But what Aces Bar has managed to do so well is make the transition from local Social Club to actual music venue with good DJ's a cool crowd. The bar is still sufficiently dodgy, as to be expected. But this is the type of atmosphere and experience that you can't get anywhere else. It's a fantastic thing that Aces hasn't been torn down, gutted and replaced with a tacky, soulless, pointless gastropub that people only go to pose in and talk about how much they enjoyed last night's X Factor and how good Simon Cowell's farts probably smell. The last time I walked in the DJ was sat at a table with the rest of the punters, with the biggest box of records open in front of him, probably only a tenth of his collection, but still more than he needed to bring along for one night. That's cool. But check out the Go Go Children nights on Saturdays, amazing Northern Soul.
