Folklore about the tree ranges from witch trial hangings to suicides, though historical record does not evidence such happenings. It is a relatively peaceful spot on the Swan River (about 200 feet from Grove Street, which is a quiet residential road). Personally, I detected no strange phenomenon or occurrences here in the times I've visited, other than my associate skinny dipping in the muck, and our absinthe-inspired poetry readings and hymns (directed at the tree, not spirits).
