Every summer we hope for better at the Terrace Inn (1911 Restaurant) in Bay View, MI--but it…read morecontinues to disappoint. The location is fabulous, set in the beautiful historic Bay View Association with that classic Northern Michigan charm and classic views. The inn has a wonderful string of history, and you can tell the new owners are pouring everything they have into it. Unfortunately, the bar drinks, menu items, and especially the service just don't deliver at a level that matches the setting or the prices. We've seen this pattern over multiple seasons. It's tough to attract and retain great seasonal staff in the area (a real challenge for many spots up here), but at this point the execution falls short of what the property deserves. Hoping the team can turn it around--we'd love to be raving fans of this local landmark.

My young adult boys and I had brunch here today $45 per person ($135 +tax) and it was terrible. This was a waste of money. We all left hungry. And the couple items that should have been warm, were cold. The food was not very good and frankly quite bland. Extremely disappointed. Save your money, don't do the brunch... on bright side I love their lavender chapstick.

We have been coming to Harbor Springs for decades. We easily had our best meal in a restaurant in…read moreHarbor Springs at Otis last night. Its concept is shareable small plates. There were three of us and we worked our way down the menu. We ordered two first courses, a combination of peaches and lemon cucumbers and burrata, and roasted beet hummus. It cannot reliably be said which was tastier than the other. Each was excellent. The fish that was flown in that day was halibut, so we ordered that. Halibut if even slightly overcooked tends to dry out. This did not. It was delicious. We also ordered roasted calamari, a large tube that was perfectly cooked (no mean feat). Finally, we turned to dessert. Here again there were two that caught our collective eye, the olive oil cake with blueberries and a panna cotta with grape granita. The olive oil cake was appropriately moist and tasty. We had doubts about the grape granita on panna cotta, but those doubts were set aside upon tasting how they worked together. The panna cotta was perfectly prepared and the grape granita was a nice addition to it. A word must be said about our server, Ashley. I knew that Otis has a scratch kitchen and I have a peculiar food allergy. Ashley checked with the chef and steered me away from eating certain of the choices. She was otherwise attentive and very pleasant. We started with Campari spritzes and ordered an obscure Gruner-Veltliner for dinner. There is an extensive wine list and cocktail list. And did I mention that we sat outdoors? All in all, this was an extraordinary experience and we will definitely be back.

Our dog is extremely docile, gets along with all dogs, and did nothing to provoke the incident. He yelped and ended up with a minor nip as I broke up the interaction. Our dog was yelping quite a bit to the point the other patrons were aware. The owner or bartender (whoever approached us) asked "was there a bite?" And said she would put the "crotchety" dog away. We immediately left. This is absolutely unacceptable for a property to advertise as "dog friendly" if guests are encouraged to bring their dogs, they should be able to safely exit their vehicles and enter the property with their large dog, without being attacked by a dog on the property. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this location with anyone traveling with a pet. This seems to be an issue if you read other reviews as well.

The visitor had to kick the owners dog to get him to release their dog. There was blood on the ground. The owner said "well that happens." Offered no apology. They have multiple signs posted warning visitors of their free roaming dogs. However, why in gods name they have a known vicious dog that is roaming freely when visitors bring their dogs. Do NOT bring your dog here. We would not return.
