Pasticceria Oscar is a pleasant find in this quiet seaside town of takeaway cafes and homogeneous restaurants. On entering the café, the glass shop counters attract your attention with a big, brightly coloured range of Italian cakes and biscuits.
The quality of food is unmatched on Lipari. The cannoli are made with real cream, and the amaretti taste of real almond. The coffee is served to taste - in my instance, a big serve with lots of milk in a ceramic coffee cup. This is a welcome change from the over-strong ristretto served in a plastic thimble that passes for a cappuccino in most of Italy.
The owners are an affable, egregious couple, who are supererogatory in their attempt to make visitors feel welcome. Jenny speaks English with a warm, matronly accent. She did not shy away from helping connect my friend, Marie, with local families and cultural institutions.
Overall, a great experience! read more
