3.5 stars This place is known for something there are awards posted in the window. I didn't know what they were I wanted to try this puff pastry wrapped thing so i just pointed. I think it was a travessario, it was filled with almond custard and the filo pastry wrapping was light and crispy but not as buttery as the pastel de nata. Service was easy just stand in line, pay (cash only) then eat. It's located at a main walk way in the plaza and easily seen. I came here for a quick breakfast and it was affordable and quick. Quality- the ham sandwich had some pretty high quality meat in it and the soup was cooked well. I would have liked more seasoning in the soup though. Quantity- lots of meat in the sandwich and soup was good too. All this for 7 euros. Atmosphere- good quiet place to eat. The pastries here look good, but didnt taste as good as they looked. I think most of the items were much too sweet, to the extent that we felt a bit sickly after eating just 1 or 2. Prices are reasonable though. Most items are under 1.5 euros. read more

This was my favorite pastelaria in all of Portugal. First, the majority of the pasteis here are local to the Coimbra region, so you may not necessarily find them in other parts of Portugal. Second, the variety here is vast. As mentioned before, the pasteis are local, but they also have incredible pasteis de nata and queijadas (better than the ones in Sintra). My favorite local was the Nevadas - they are supposed to look like snow covered pastries, and inside is the most moist cake ever! - and the Hóstias Conventuais, which look like two thin crepes stuffed with orange egg filling. We noticed meringue in the window and looked so attractive that we decided after the lunch to stop for dessert. It was a bit chaotic inside. One person was working hard selling pastries and cookies and the rest 3 or 4 weren't busy at all. Didn't look appealing to eat inside, but meringue and almond cookies were delicious. read more

I tried several items here. Some were really good including the tentugal. However I didn't like some of their savoury pastries as they weren't as flakey. Overall I had a good time because our server was very knowledgeable and explained to us each pastry since I had no clue what each one was. read more
