3 stars for me means average, and that's how I felt about the food. I'm a big fan of fresh pasta, so I was excited to try Pasta Design at Liberty Station, but nothing really stood out. I ordered a kids' pasta ($9.99) for my son and a cheese ravioli with marinara for about $15. The portion felt a little small for the price. Service was fine, and the food came out in about 15 minutes. I did like that I could walk around and check out other spots in the market while waiting. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back, especially with so many other options inside the market.

At first I was wondering where the ravioli was. They were swimming in just the right amount of sauce. The gnocchi needed some help. A bit too dense not a pillowy consistency. Not to worry we took it home. I changed it up with a little bit of this, little bit of that as I worked some luv into it. They were perfect. Luv'd this concept with easy access to a place like this inside a public market. Would definitely return.
Pasta Design is the Italian fresh pasta vendor inside the Liberty Public Market (LPM) in Point Loma. It's one of the longest tenured businesses in the market. The left menu screen listed the steps if you wanted to design your own bowl. The right menu screen displayed the preset entrees, salads, house specials, and desserts. You could also purchase pasta and ravioli by the pound. A glass display case showed the available noodles and salads. I decided to make my own item by selecting bucatini as the pasta, bolognese as the sauce, and sausage as a protein. The bowl was prepared in about 10 minutes. For $13.98, the serving size was meager as I had hoped there was going to be more. The noodles were cooked to the right degree, and the sauce had good flavor. The addition of sausage was probably unnecessary as the meat in the bolognese was sufficient. If you want Italian fare while at LPM, then this will be your spot. The quality of my food was decent, but the price for the portion was what limited my rating of Pasta Design to a three star level.
The pastas were fresh. We enjoyed the gnocchi and the raviolis. The pink sauce was good but the pesto was a bit oily. Service was good and it's in a fu. Marketplace.

My daughter simply cannot resist fresh pasta, especially when it can be customized. So it wasn't a surprise when she was immediately drawn to Pasta Design while at Liberty Public Market for lunch. She chose her favorite -- fettuccini with pesto sauce and burrata. Her order took about 10 minutes to prepare. The pasta was perfectly al dente, coated with fresh pesto and topped with a deliciously soft, creamy burrata. She loved it. Standard service. Good portions. Reasonable pricing.
I ordered an adult size Fusilli with chicken & broccoli in a creamy pesto sauce. It was ready in about ten minutes and I sat inside the market to enjoy it. (I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of it!) The portion size is generous and very tasty. Homemade pasta is such a nice treat & I think Pasta Design does a solid job. I added parmigiana cheese & red pepper flakes to my dish to enhance the mild yet smooth pesto flavor & there was just the right amount of sauce. The young employee who helped me was very nice and helpful. The pasta can get pricey depending on how many add-ins you choose, but for the base pasta & sauce, it is $12.99. My dish ended up being a little over $20 with the chicken, broccoli, tax & tip. There's time of indoor & outdoor seating in the market. There's also a full bar in the building and very nice bathrooms. There's also plenty of free parking in the many adjacent lots & street parking as well. Grazie! read more

More like a 3.5 star so decided to round up. The person behind the counter was nice and patient while I ordered. The food is good but not memorable. You can order off the menu or build your own pasta. When you build your own, they charge you for every add on. It can get a little pricey. read more
Decided on a whim to stop here to get lunch for my little yelpers, who are not so little anymore! The display of all the pastas is so eye catching it just draws you in like a vacuum! I love their menu options and quite frankly I'm not sure if there are other places like this nearby. At least, not that I've seen. But, you design your dish! The menu is pretty straight forward, you pick your pasta, your sauce, protein/meat and veggies. And then it's cooked just for you how you want it. Waiting for the food took maybe about ten minutes which isn't terribly bad considering they're making your food just for YOU. I picked the pasta Alfredo with Burrata and broccoli for one dish and for the second one the spaghetti pasta with marinara, meat balls and sun-dried tomatoes both in the adult size. Let me tell you, they pack these food containers to the brim! One order can easily feed 2 people! Service was quick at the register, the cashier helped me put together the Alfredo pasta order with what went well together and it was a hit! Love it when staff has their suggestions on the menu too! The location is hidden inside the liberty public market at liberty station in Point Loma but easy to find once inside. Seating is like a hit or miss because it's not a dine in restaurant but there are such beautiful spots around liberty station to eat Al fresco! I took it home as my kids weren't with us, I live 30 minutes away and the food was still very warm when we arrived. A super plus! Definitely recommend to anyone trying to have pasta your way! read more

Was excited to try this place as I love fresh pasta. I did build your own pasta with the spring flowers pasta and creamy potato with chicken and broccoli. The pesto and pasta were delicious. The chicken was horrendous. Super mushy and gross. Seemed like very frozen, not good chicken. And the broccoli was still Jo d if hard. Not easy to eat. read more
Ordered chicken Alfredo, chicken pesto with fusilli and creamy pesto linguine. Pasta was cooked almost al dente but would have preferred chicken that was a little less salty. Unfortunately, the creamy pesto sauce was a little chunky and didn't have a palatable texture. Therefore, my daughter only ate about 1/4 before disposing of it. Food was served in sturdy takeout containers and was ready 10-15 minutes after we placed the order. Not bad for a quick meal. Might have been better to buy pasta and sauce to prepare at home if you have that option. It was too dark outside when we were eating so the only picture that's recognizable was the chicken pesto fusilli. read more

Came with 1 meatball and sadly it was over seasoned and over cooked/or been sitting out too long that it's dried out and turned super hard after it was cooked. Off day? read more

We recently purchased food from your employee at Liberty Station, there was a metal shaving from a metal sponge in the food Your employee told my wife to "calm the fuck down" whenever my wife was having a calm conversation about the metal shaving in the pasta When I talked to him personally about his actions he proceeded to tell me "You can shut up, and if you have a problem, I clock out at 3:30 pm, we can handle this in the parking lot and I can send you to the hospital" You have hired a disrespectful employee, a child with no care to your customers or to your company, who makes threats towards men women with children nearby Give him less time working there or fire him... for his disrespect... this will also be reported to The Better Business Bureau of San Diego for his actions and the way management didn't do anything about his actions read more

There are lots of pasta options and lots of sauce options. You can create your own or select from the menu. I had the spring flowers pasta with vegetables and an olive oil sauce. I love that they will prepare a meal for you or you can select your ingredients and take them home to cook. Everything is fresh. Service was good. Great variety of sauces, and options. One of the only places I've ever seen that has pink sauce, (half marinara & half Alfredo) which is my absolute favorite sauce ever. There is plenty of seating in the area but this place is order counter only. read more
This is my second time trying Pasta Design but my first time building my own pasta. The pasta was good, especially after you let it cool down a little. I tried the Rigatoni Pasta with 50/50 pink sauce, chicken, mushroom, and sundried tomatoes. It did come up to $18 and change, which I thought was a bit pricey, but it's because they charge you for every topping you add. I do wish that the mushroom was a bit softer, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The girl behind the counter was very nice and professional, and the service was fast. read more

Got the Asiago mac and cheese! It was a little smokey, but the main attraction was that it had so much cheese! Wish there was vegetables or something to change up the texture though. In the middle of liberty Station market, its a very busy place! The service staff were helpful too. read more
I really enjoy trying the different eateries in Liberty Public Market. After a day in the sun and sipping wine nearby, I stopped in the Public Market to grab a couple dishes to bring home for dinner. I love fresh pasta so I decided to try Pasta Design. There, you pick your pasta, sauce, and toppings. For myself, I chose the rainbow pasta, arrabbiata sauce, mushrooms and truffle oil. For my husband, I choose the gnocchi with Bolognese sauce and meatballs. Both came with decent servings of fresh parmesan. I thought the pasta itself was very good, but my dish, all in all, was not terribly interesting. I couldn't taste the truffle oil at all, probably because I chose the spicy sauce, but I also didn't see any sauces on the menu that sounded good with truffle oil. I didn't feel that the sauce or toppings were really interesting. My husband enjoyed his dish, but didn't feel it was anything too remarkable. As I said, I did like the pasta, and I did feel it was cooked well. I would give them another try perhaps with a different sauce and toppings. read more

May 29th Memorial Day - PASTA DESIGN NEEDS HELP! Bad Food, Bad Service, Bad Management, No Etiquette! My Family and I visited Pasta Design at Liberty Station because I wanted pasta on Monday, Memorial Day. My husband and I weren't happy with the condition of the lasagna so I came back to "Bryan" to exchange it for something cooked throughly, and was told by both the cook and the cashier that there's nothing they could do, it's "pre-cooked" and offered no replacement or another dish, or a refund? All this on Memorial Day as a Veteran Family? When I took time to call the said manager "Laura" on 5/29, I never received a callback, when I took the time to send an email today, May 31, 2023 I received the below response not even addressed to me? "Good afternoon. I was talking with the chef and you got a lasagna. Lasagna was fully cooked and we heat it up by order. She took the temperature with a thermometer and was hot. She offered you to heat it up more even though was hot and fully cooked and you said no." WOW! WHAT A TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS, NOT! read more

Welcoming feel with a modern design and great customer service. About 5-10 minute wait and food was fresh and hot. I designed my own pasta and went ahead with Cheese Tortellini as my pasta and Pink 50/50 as my sauce. I also chose Sausage and Sun Dried Tomatoes as my proteins. Everything was fresh and packed with flavor from the tortellini to the sauce. You are given an abundant amount that I feel could feed two people. Overall great experience and seeing the freshly made pasta being showcased is a nice touch. read more

A great little find in the liberty station food hall. The spaghetti and meatballs had great flavor. The sauce had good balance and the meatballs were super soft and had a great seasoning. The gnocchi itself was good but the pesto cream sauce was just okay. A friend had the regular pesto and it was much better. We also had the pasta salad and that was a table favorite! There's a lot of options in the food hall but this would deserve another visit read more
If you want to skip the hassle of Little Italy and taste some fresh and authentic flavor, try out this spot. Love the selection, variety and accessibility of the items. Was gonna try the ravioli but though 7 pieces might not be enough for 13-14$. The pink sauce was delicious, might come back to try another flavor before leaving SD. read more
