stopped by here yesterday to check out the place since I'm new in town. I've been to a lot of comic stores and everyone is usually friendly..not here.. I ask one question about where the new comics were as the store is large and cluttered and the guy snaps at me and rolls his eyes and says "dude it's alphabetical" i feel like for an empty store they should be nicer to their customers. This comic book store had many items to look at but in the end I couldn't enjoy myself because of the smell reeking from the place. If you could bring in some frebreez or cologne or something I think it would help a lot in keeping business read more

What follows is a rant. It always starts with "oh, I just want to leave the rating." Then it makes you write about it, and you're surprised by the fuel you have. Anyway... my experience: I'm never going in again. I just moved to the area and was interested in finding a gaming store. I also read comic books. The first time I went in, I browsed around, then asked if they had the latest Netrunner pack (at the time,) Khala Ghoda. The employee kept insisting that it must not have been released yet. I kept saying, I'm pretty sure it's been released because I've just played in a tournament with it. "Oh no, it must have been a tournament perk." I doubt it, it was the ANRPC... It's like, if you don't have it, you don't have it. Why do you feel the need to pile on bullshit? I think that's pretty reflective of the kind of joint they have. Poorly stocked, just plain rude. (They had a few odd data packs, but clearly they make no effort to restock the one's they've sold.) I returned a couple more times to head straight to the back for their gaming tables where x-wing was being played. I ventured into the store to find a TIE fighter to buy and they didn't have it. They have some things, but it seems like they don't go all in on any of the games. It just doesn't work out. I'm accustomed to the meccas of Dice Dojo and Pasttimes in Chicago, sure, but I'm also used to the little guys up there like Wanderers refuge and The Gaming Goat. I know what it means to be a gaming store. If you're dedicated, orders get placed, there's merchandise on the shelves. I ventured in again today because I decided I simply must have the first 5 issues of the new Ms Marvel. I called ahead and asked them to put it aside for me. When I got there, I was surprised to see that Issue 1 was marked up $2. Midtown had their standard 15% discount still on it, but that's not a fair comparison, obviously. I checked Graham Cracker Comics who isn't in the business of doing any favors with price (however, they provided excellent service!) and they had only marked it up $.50. I could chalk that up to some overzealous speculation since it's a number one, but #2-4 were also marked up $.50 each! So, a comic book that is a month old is MORE than the cover price? There is no speculation explanation for that--it didn't sell out. The two explanations I have for this are both heinous, either whenever a comic is a month old, this Bizarro comic book store always raises the price $.50, or the guy knew because I called ahead I wanted them and tacked on the price, just 'cause. I've been collecting comics for 10 years (although more on and off since the tragedy of the 2011 DC reboot.) I stayed mostly loyal to Comix Gallery, a very small shop, but I know my way around comic book shops of all different sizes--Graham Cracker, Dark Tower, Comics Revolution, Alley Cat, Third Coast to name a few. This shop is the worst shop I've ever been to, although, this is the first outright bad comic book shop/gaming store I've been to. Plainly, their stock of new comic books could be larger. I went to a small shop back home, but the selection was curated and I could talk for ages with the extremely knowledgable and pleasant owner who was right on with his suggestions. In the end, the real question is what redeeming quality does this store have? Lot's of things can be forgiven, but you need something to praise. Doesn't matter how long you've been around. Expect to be talked down to by somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about. I mistakenly thought that Black Panther was already out. I just say, "oh, gosh, that's right" and move on with my life. I almost didn't want to write something so disparaging because it's one of the few places I can play x-wing in this area, but I'm more than willing to give up my passions to never walk into that dump again. read more

He is stern faced man , small in stature, he wears thin stylish script glasses and has some tatt ink creeping out of his clothing. He carries himself with an air of self importance as if he is in charge of things, or he thinks he is. My family had been visiting the store once or twice a month.We all enjoyed the store.The boys are still focused on the toys but I wanted them discover what created my own nostalgic reverence for comics and I think it was starting to take root. Its a shame we are not welcome there. Its a nice store, The staff is not friendly, with one exception. A tall long haired man with a sturdy frame and a clever sense of humor has a genuine interest in engaging in an interesting conversation about comics. The rest skulk around the store like undercover guardians of the oracle. I had been browsing the store for about 10 minutes when I was summoned to the front counter by 2 word "Your BAG" I was told that I was required to remove my shoulder bag and keep it at the counter. this was new to me. This is not a book bag or a gym bag, It doesn't have dirty socks and Yu-Gi-Oh cards in it. This is a small military style sIing bag,its secure, It has my cell, my tablet and my wallet, etc. I don't hand this bag over to anyone, It would be foolish to do so. I decided instead to stand at the front counter with my offending bag and wait for my family to finish shopping, after a while I began to feel a bit like a punished child in a time-out. I was reminded about their "You might be a thief policy"and told all I had to do was hand over my bag and I would be free to move about the store. I respectfully declined and moved closer to the exit and waited for my family. It was at this time I had noticed other patrons,and their bags. I counted 3, young and old, male and female with bags. I was curious as to why I was singled-out and told to surrender my bag, So I asked. which went as follows/excuse me sir, are you the owner here?/no!/ok, well i have a question./(shrug)/well I was wondering why I was asked to check my bag./ store policy. same as every where. in New York City, we do this.and this is a bad neighborhood./I live in this neighborhood but....ok.... what is the policy because there are other people in the store with bags?/we don't ask ladies for their purses./how is my bag different from her purse./look ! your not goin to win this Battle!/huh? what battle? Im making a point/.you don't have a point!/I do have a point.....your being dismissive and insulting me./you are choosing to take it that way./Im not taking it that way, it "is that way" there is a male teenager over there with a red shoulder bag also./he is a gamer. we know him./you should use better discretion if your going to ask people for their bags./ are you telling me I should size people up and only asks for bags from people that look like criminals?/ huh? no, not at all. thats not what I said. Your using your discretion to single me out./ (approaches with chest puffed, enters my personal space) This is my store!/ I thought you said you where not the owner! and ...the back f##k off!/This is "our" store!/Listen Im not making a problem, if this is the policy it should apply to all, not some. your saying I cant be trusted like a gamer with a shoulder bag or a women with a purse, /(raises his arm across my face pointing toward the door in dramatic fashion) are you going to leave!/absolutely, I am leaving./ ( at this point my wife and two boys are standing by my side, my wife urging me to walk away and my boys looking confused.)/(calls out to co-worker at counter. ) Call the police!/What?/get out!/Im leaving! Back the F##K off of me!/(calls out again ) Call the police!/ yes go ahead, call the police! (walking towards exit with family)/(following me very closely in escort bouncer style) Your a COWARD!/what are you talking about?/ leave!/(family outside I am in threshold of exit)/how am I a coward?/get out!/yes. Im leaving. but first ( leaning forward with direct eye contact) and.. F##K You! your a P###Y !/turns and walks back inside shaking his head./return to the car with the wife and kids.I regret my use of fowl language, with who was obviously a combative person. Not only where my 2 sons there but there where a few other young people who had to see and hear this confrontation. nice family place right! Having said that, I believe that A person should always have the right to speak their mind and ask questions. Do not roam like sheep and follow the tail in front of you. The customer is not always right . But customer appreciation is a good idea. Either way we will no longer be supporting this store. We will take our business and bags elsewhere. read more

The guys behind the counter are funny and friendly. They help me with pretty much everything whenever I need some help and they are also great at giving suggestions if you are looking for anything new to read. Their statue sections is pretty cool, but the fairies freak me out a little bit... Anyways, their comic collection is quite large, I love just walking around and checking out the different back issues. I would definitely recommend this place for anybody looking for comics or gaming. read more

I had been going to PPF over the past year + and will no longer be going. While I like the shop clerk Matt, I can see how some people wouldn't get his brand of humor/personality. However, he's not the problem. The crappy hours, the filth and general hatred of the customer in terms of making this a place to buy stuff and hangout, it's like a drive though. Get your stuff and leave. Not somewhere I'd like to go. read more

Happened upon Past, Present and Future around the summer of '98. Couldn't miss it with the giant "COMICS" logo written over the front entrance. Best service imaginable. I've hardly ever left there in all these years w/o finding what I was looking for. I believe their trade collections wall has increased about 200% since then as well. What other place has tournaments in their store, and then tells the younger kids there that their ride has arrived and makes sure they leave safely. Been to many hole-in-the-wall stores in my time that you had to almost use a guide or watch for stacks of books or boxes from falling on top of you. Wish they would expand even more towards my area. I try to avoid this overpriced comic book shop and not so friendly staff. They have a large selection but recommend other comic book shops for regular comics, subscriptions and supplies. They were a much better shop in the past versus what they morphed into (a lot more games). read more
