Passion Roots created the florals for our wedding ceremony & reception. They were great to work with, in that, they really listened to what we wanted (vision and ideas). Shilhi is super creative & really talented at what she does. I was able to speak with her and show her some photos of what I like and envisioned, and she was able to pull together a "floral board" after our first discussion. As I continued to plan out our wedding & pull together the elements, I was able to make a last minute switch. Instead of doing all round tables, I had rectangle tables set up for my VIP/family tables. I switched from a traditional centerpiece to the long garlands that spread across. The additional costs for that really increased the cost of what we were going to spend in florals. We had a budget that I wanted to stick to, but given the change, we surpassed it! I know that Shilhi tried her best to accommodate us and tried to give us what we want. Since the price had gone up so much, I had to remove the leis from our order. I just had Shilhi provide the florals for the ceremony & reception, including the most important floral elements for the bride, Maid of Honor, and the Groom. For our reception centerpieces, we had gold spray painted pineapples. Instead of getting all of my florals from Passion Roots, I had to remove them so I didn't have to purchase and spray paint the gold pineapples myself. Given that we were having a destination wedding, I didn't think that was an option for us so I had to make some adjustments to accommodate for the uptick in price. Luckily, Shilhi made some adjustments & suggestions on how she can still create the look that we were going for. She graciously gifted us gold votives that went perfect with our florals! What I love about Shilhi is that she is personable and easy to talk to. She is super creative! She is someone I trust to go & create something beautiful beyond my own imagination.I wasn't afraid to give her creative freedom. I was able to trust her & believe that I was in good hands. In the end, everything came out beautiful & gorgeous. I just wish that the teepee she created for us was much larger! It is a lot smaller than what I imagined, but it still came out gorgeous! From this process, I learned: 1 ) I have expensive taste, and 2 ) Flowers are NOT cheap in Hawaii. Apparently they get imported from the mainland, Thailand, and other parts of the world. One would think Hawaii would have an abundance of flowers... they do, just tropical florals! Not the ones you would typically see or use for weddings. I highly recommend Passion Roots! They do fantastic work & are creative geniuses! Keep in mind, Saturday is their Sabbath so they have to contract the installation if your event falls on a Saturday. Installation is an additional charge to the florals.

    Most gorgeous floral arrangements!!!

Maria was fabulous! We first met with her to go over all the details of our wedding and once the day came, the bouquets, boutineers, floral arrangements and more were absolutely gorgeous and more than we expected. Instead of the traditional bouquets and arrangements, we went with Passion Roots because of their unique boho style. The different, more tropical, flowers that they used was one like no other.

Passion Roots is where it's at! BRIDES - if you're looking for a florist, look no further because they're THE BEST (hands down)!!!! Elana and Shilhi are very responsive, detail oriented, and super sweet!!!!! I was speechless when I saw our ceremony and reception arrangements. They were absolutely STUNNING and EXACTLY what we asked for. We must have changed my mind a million times and added and deleted to our scope of work a million times but they always stayed patient with us and helped us from beginning to end. Thank you ladies for making our special day so beautiful!!!!!!! xo

The arrangements for my wedding were just STUNNING !!

It can be really tough to find the right florist...someone you truly trust with your wedding's…read morefloral design. I initially chose a different florist, but as the process unfolded, I began to have doubts. I decided to keep looking and ultimately found Plant Hawaii--and I'm so glad I did! Working with Scot and the entire team was an incredible experience from start to finish. They were excellent communicators, truly listened to our vision, and created stunning inspiration boards that perfectly captured our theme. What stood out most was how collaborative and transparent the entire process felt. Their online portal was fantastic. It clearly showed each floral request, counts, inspiration photos, and costs. Their suggestions were beautiful and thoughtful. In addition, they were upfront about pricing every step of the way. These are two very important things to consider when selecting a florist. First, having an online portal made it incredibly easy to make adjustments together and immediately see changes reflected in the proposal. Second, clarity around flowers and pricing felt surprisingly difficult when speaking with other florists. Plant Hawaii stood out because they were so clear, organized, and transparent by comparison. On the wedding day, Scot and his team arrived and immediately jumped into action. As a planner, coordinating vendors can be stressful, but Plant Hawaii needed no direction. They built a breathtaking ceremony arch, placed all aisle and reception florals, handed me the bride's bouquet, and made sure I knew exactly where all the leis were. Everything was seamless and effortless. Florals truly set the tone for a wedding, and Plant Hawaii delivered the most jaw-dropping tropical Hawaiian arrangements. The bride envisioned a sunset palette, and the team quite literally painted a sunset sky with flowers. Their attention to detail, artistry, and love for what they do showed in every single element. Mahalo nui to Scot and the Plant Hawaii team. We are so grateful to have worked together! If you're considering them, don't wait!! They are the best!!!

Q: What do I do on weekends?…read more A: Plant shop, but not at Plant Hawaii. New hours as of last week, Mon-Fri only. Closed on weekends. I've actually been there on the days and hours that they say they are open but they were closed. I pressed the Ring button as instructed, but no response. I got into my car but spied another family coming to the parking lot. I got out of the car and followed them. Somehow they had the magic that I didn't have, and got a lovely young girl to open up the shop. I tagged right along, glad that I didn't drive away when I was going to. The girl was really nice. I've purchased a variety of things from them in the past: lipstick vine, hibiscus and etc. The prices are pretty good; hibiscus on the pricier side but they have the Cajun series that I crave so much. Bummer that they are not open on weekends but I totally get it.

When he asked which was which price he was told the ones he bought would be in the $4 size. They charge by the inch for these. Flowers aren't marked as to what color they are nor sizes. When he asked if they would be alright in the car the saleswoman said they'd be okay but when they wrapped them she'd add a wet paper towel to the stems. He went to the register and asked for this to be done to be told NO they don't do that but he could buy a water tube for each flower he's buying for .25 cents each. My husband said no that's okay. Husband was buying a vase and the man said he could give him some water in the vase. So now my flowers are $5 each, unwrapped in a vase to be transported home. The one flower ended up split somehow? Landscaping work is not the kind of work most people get excited about but when you got to do it,…read moreyou gotta to do it. Manual labor is definitely not on my top list of favorite things to do. It is a chore and it is not my hobby. So the search for foliage and flowers begins after much procrastination on my part LOL. On this particular weekend, my landscaping work calls for more bougainvillea plantings. The idea is to fill in some bare patches around the existing bougainvillea tree beds and re-train the thorny branches to grow upward. Sounds easy until your first couple of cuts from the deluge of the ever-present thorns on those spiky branches. We looked at some local ads and didn't really know if we really wanted to buy imported bougainvilleas from the big box stores. Trying to "support local", so we called around to get some referrals. Off we went to Hawaii Kai Nursery because we were told the lady there specializes in bougainvilleas and nothing else. I recommend using GPS to find this nursery in the back area of Hawaii Kai's residential subdivision. Take caution as you drive through a very small, winding section of the 2-lane road. Thick walls of tall grass made a natural wall barrier, hence making visibility briefly limited. Upon arrival, we drove up to the property's only entrance and decided to park by the side of the fence since there wasn't a driveway nor a designated area for vehicles to park. When we passed through the metal gate, an elderly lady came out to greet us. We asked if she was Mary and she questioned us how we knew her name LOL. Told her we assumed she was the minute we saw her sign Mary's Bougainvilleas hung on the side of her fence. She chucked! The nicest and sweetest lady Mary seemed to be, and she was so genuine. First impression of the nursery revealed Mary's (nursery's owner) preference for bougainvilleas. Right at the center of the nursery stands a gorgeous white gazebo sporting lovely fuchsia bougainvillea flowers and vines completely wrapped around the charming square trellis. You can tell this masterpiece was lovingly groomed and manicured for years to look this stunning. A perfect backdrop for a wedding photo it would make. There are 4 different areas where you can see bougainvilleas about "knee high" tall (3-gallon pots) and they were all orderly lined up in many rows. All those bougainvilleas were blooming nicely and the colors so vibrant in the sun. Flowers of bright purple, delicate whites, California gold, almost neon fuchsia and peachy-orange hues covered the bougainvillea pots. I gravitated towards the orange, pink and fuchsia colors but there was one bougainvillea variety I've not previously seen: the Thai delight. This variety is attractive, delicate and very eye-catching with the pink edges on the top portion of the white flowers. Mary was very informative once she learned what we wanted and gave us specific trimming and caring instructions. More importantly, she made sure we understood what to expect from the plants and its growth is really dependent the particular variety. I would recommend anyone to check out Mary's Bougainvilleas if you're in the market for some ornamental "paper flowers". Her prices were super reasonable and her bougainvillea flowers looked so beautiful and healthy. I loved how she's so down to earth, genuine and she didn't try to hard sell us. We're planning to buy additional pots from Mary after discovering our garden could use a few more bougainvilleas.
