And the prices are dirt-cheap for all the seasonal produce. They even have a small range of seedlings, herbs & vegetable plants. My kitchen counter is proudly displaying a big bowl of micro-green radish sprouts & I feel healthier every time I look at them! But Boric also has: a fresh fish counter, butchery, deli, icecream by the scoop, coffee, homemade cakes, dinners & salads, a kids' playground AND a boutique selection of homewares & the finest artisan products. And friendly staff. And a great wine, beer & cider selection. And I've probably missed something out. This is the kind of place that you could easily wander around for ages, progressively filling up that trolley more & more. I can see that will quickly become my new hobby!

Yip's always has fantastic specials and deals on their produce. Heads of broccoli for 99cents, watermelon at $1.49 a kilo, leeks at 79cents - buying your produce from Yip's is a far more cost effective way to shop. Plus, unlike in most supermarkets the produce at Yip's is fresh, naturally grown and preservative free. Bonus. By purchasing your groceries from Yip's not only can you feel good about the healthy food you're stocking your cupboards with, you can also give yourself a pat on the back for supporting a locally owned, independent, business.

But it also got Italian/Mediterranean type stuff like Olives, feta cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, and it also has some really good oils, like Omega mix with Avocado oil and Olive Oil. I also love that its clean and tidy inside, some Fruit/Asian type places aren't. Also it's nice and handy and has good parking. Nothing is worse than getting a deal on your avocado only to find when you get home that they are rotten and inedible when you cut into them for the salad! We arrived to quite a busy carpark and after securing the car, and lining up the kids, and putting the baby in the backpack, we were on our way to the little tent to pay up and grab a few buckets. Five dollars per person, for anyone over the age of 10, and you could pick as much as you wanted and eat as you picked as well. The admission you pay would later be deducted from your weight of fruit. I loved the fact that we could all do this as a family, and get our hands and feet dirty, whilst having a really memorable experience. Phil Greig Strawberry Gardens takes up quite a large space- a couple of acres of strawberry's, and there are masses of them everywhere. You wont know when to stop eating, and picking, but thanks to our over eagerness to pick, we later ended up with a pot full of strawberry jam boiling away on the stove- nothing beats homemade strawberry jam on piklets- delicious. I can say that this weekend activity gave us much laughter, and happy full strawberry tummy's.

I must say a lot of the food is unfamiliar to me so while it is interesting to browse here, I don't tend to buy all that much. We often do buy ice cream here when we get our takeaway on Lincoln road on a Friday evening - it just saves us from having to nip into Countdown. The staff here are very nice and are apparently quite knowledgeable when it comes to the food they stock - I heard a woman asking them about the rice they stock and they seemed to know a lot about it. They do sell all the conventional Kiwi veggies here and compared to the supermarket, their prices are quite cheap. There are a few of these Fruit and Vege stores out West so I guess they have to be cheap to compete with them.
