For us, the monthly visit to the night market is really just entertainment for the kids and a very…read morecheap dinner. I love any Asian/Indian/ethno food so can always find something to keep the wolf from the door. There is a wide range of cuisines: Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Philipino, Hungarian, Hong Kong, Pacific Island, and more plus a plethora of post prandial sweets. The food quality at some stalls might be a bit iffy - I suppose at $6 they won't be using the best ingredients, but I have never been sick!!. Sometimes I wonder about the hygiene too but fingers crossed... A lot of the food is in bain maries pre-cooked but the last two meals I've had have been cooked on the spot. It always amazes me that there is a huge queue for churros, which must be the most over-rated snack ever - flavourless dough sticks covered in a sauce of choice. Having said that though I wish I owned that business because the queues reach out the door and they are making a killing!! As at the time of writing this, the Pakuranga market is getting overcrowded. We went last night, arriving at 6pm opening time and it was already extremely busy. We were glad to be in and out within 30 minutes because it was becoming uncomfortably congested. If the crowds continue to grow, the market will need to expand its area. If I was designing the space I would move the "dining" tables to an area away from the throng of hungry punters trying to buy food. And in my perfect world pushchairs would be BANNED from all pedestrian areas!! Why, oh why, do people bring push chairs into crowded pedestrian areas? Dumb. I recommend the night market for a bit of frivolous fun on an evening when you have nothing else on and want to take the kids out for some low key entertainment and dinner. The "shopping" is best avoided unless you want fruit and veges. However, if on the other hand, you have an urge to offload your cash on $2 Shop junk, costume jewellery, flannelette onesies, carvings, mobile phone covers and accessories, a (fully-clothed) back/neck massage, ear candles, cheap and nasty nail polish and nail art, a dubious fortune telling, or second-hand bric-a-brac then this will be your Shangri-la!

The covered carpark just makes it that much easier when you need to shop during the winter months when we all know how windy and rainy and just horrible Auckland weather can be. But this Pak n Save is great as it has a lovely covered carpark. The supermarket itself is actually also pretty new and therefore has a really good layout, wide aisles and lots of check out lanes so makes for stress free supermarket shopping apart from the packing at the end, but the prices are worth it.

Their meat - I…read moredon't know how they store it but with these new recycling packs the meat smells horrible after a day in the fridge if kept in those recycling packs and we have a very good fridge. Their Fresh Fruit and Vegetables is not really that nice they don't have the best looking produce and quite often ill buy their onions and the middle of them are rotten and green possibly because they use the sacks of onions and just tip them into their bin. They have changed the layout again and to be honest its so difficult to find things at the moment but the extra space is nice, their variety section seems to have disappeared which is a shame as there was good stuff in there. Their product range is limited these days and I find myself doing my main shop here but my meat and veges and other products shopping at Countdown or New World. They have baskets now which is great but I'm forever having to go to the checkout aisle to get a basket as they don't bring them back as often. And the self Checkouts are great but quite often the machines need assistance from the staff - who more often then not are busy gossiping about their lives and not paying to much attention to what is going on and missing the trolleys full of more than 20 items at the self checkouts. I will continue to shop here but I hope it gets better again like it used to.

In terms of new innovations, there's little that's obvious: A conveyor belt option on the self checkout and noticeably fewer checkouts than you'd expect for the size of the store. The staff always make an effort to make small talk. I think it's probably a "new store" excitement thing. We'll see! Cons: the rather unfriendly signs out front banishing all dogs. People can leave dogs in cars in winter... But what about summer? And what about walkers with dogs? A better approach would be three short chains with clips attached to the building spaced 1.5m apart, so that people can safely tie up their dogs. Bonus points for shade, water bowls and a "welcome dogs" sign!

Supermarket was very quiet and I had to wait 10-15 mins while 3 staff watched me wait at the one open counter. Two customers were here expecting some service and let out sighs when they realised they had to use self checkout or wait behind me and someone else. The checkout lady was alone (no nagger) despite heaps of staff running around. Selection is average, displays are nice, prices are varied, some more expensive and a couple of cheap deals. Meh.

The service is friendly, patient and very knowledgeable; because of this I can never leave without a box of ten chocolates and a bag of their delicious Russian caramel fudge. The staff really make it an experience and because of this, I've become a regular here. You'll be dying to try all the flavours they provide, and its an extensive list. For someone who already knows what they're after or they're short on time, they do provide a range of pre-packed candies, chocolates and bars to suit any need. My favourites include the almond rocher, coconut snowball truffle and the roasted almond honey truffle- all to die for! Take a few flavours home with you to try- you really won't be disappointed.

This is their third store; half of the choccies they make themselves, the other half imported from around the world. The passion fruit heart was my favourite; my niece couldn't get enough of the truffles. This is a great place to buy a gift; either make a box up yourself or choose from their large range of pre-packaged goodies. The staff are very helpful and my niece was SO jealous when the girl behind the counter said she had tried most of the chocolates. You can guess what she wants to be when she grows up now!

What I like about this place is that it caters for not just one but many niches - from gluten-free to vegetarian to organic meat-eaters, Huckleberry Farms has most of your shopping list sorted. Do keep in mind though that although they have a wide range of stock, as it is natural and/or organic and/or gluten-free, it is pretty pricey and a lot more than what you'd pay down the road at the local supermarket. But don't let that put you off too much - they have very competitive prices with Nosh located over the road, and the service is super friendly and a bit more personalised than what you'd receive at Nosh.

This store is a bit smaller than the other two locations but still stocks a decent amount of product. The produce is all very good quality and there is a good range of frozen and chilled foods. Down the back with the bulk nuts and cereals you can find baked goods that state they are free from multiple things. Harvest Wholefoods in Grey Lynn has a much better range and I prefer to go there as I can buy vegan muffins and cookies made in New Zealand from all natural ingredients by Kauri Kitchen. Even so if you are local to GI and want to eat healthier or need to find foods that cater to your dietary needs then I recommend it. Price doesn't really factor in much here. If you prioritise your health then you will pay to know what you are eating is free from preservatives and other ingredients that you can't pronounce. The owners are strict with which products they will stock based on ingredients, location and production methods. Eat well, treat your body well. Shop here.
