Lovely property and very good food let down by questionable service. Roll top baths in the rooms,…read morefantastic walk-in showers with heaps of hot water and feather pillows make the rooms very nice. Then you meet the staff. From the greeting at check-in to the restaurant staff, something is just "off". You aren't really made to feel welcome and heaven forbid you've booked a surprise package for your wife, they just blurt it out. Surprise gone! You get the same feeling of warm from the check in machine at Premier Inn. The notable exception was the bartender. With embarrassment he explained they are no longer allowed to put egg whites in a whiskey sour despite the cocktail menu saying egg whites are in the drink. He tried his best to find some pasteurised whites in the kitchen and ultimately comped one of the two cocktails because he too thought it was ridiculous - the extra large measure helped take the edge off the issue! And so to the restaurant. Again it's announced you have the "package." The prix fixe menu is presented with two choices per course, but rather than each person choosing their own starter, main etc., you can only choose one of the two options for both people to share. Nowhere does it say you have to share each course. When this becomes clear, and after some confusion, their answer to "could we have a half portion of each course?" was "yes if you pay double." OK maybe not the biggest issue. Next once we ordered, an hour later we're presented with a charcuterie plate having ordered the seafood platter. When it's sent back the waitress comes across and, with a scowl and decent helping of attitude, demands "what's wrong?" We didn't order the charcuterie is the polite response, met with "Yes you did." Seriously?? Time to speak to the head waiter. She herself has a thinly veiled "I could care less expression" but does at least apologise. She also sensibly switches our server. Three courses and three hours later, a lost vegetable dish, and constantly empty glasses, the meal is done. The food is very good quality, except for the over cooked grilled lobster, but is sadly let down by poor service. Such a shame. The head waiter does comp the steak we ordered from the a la carte menu to solve our tasting problem, but we can't help thinking the whole situation could have been avoided if she had spent less time hiding behind the podium and more time checking on guests and staff. Short version, central London prices but no service to back it up.

It's a real shame because the food is good, and the setting is nice. Service in the restaurant was slow and spotty, and at times incompetent & surly. The one exception was the young kid handing out bread and helping out - great attitude and a hard worker. I hope the hotel & restaurant can step up their game. Would love to go back if that happens.
