Picnic tables, beach, I think I remember grills, a big grassy area - lots of space to spread out and enjoy the day. Seems like a GREAT place to take family and kids. As a county park, there is a no-alcohol policy. While I'm sure some people discreetly partake, that policy adds to the family friendly atmosphere. Our campsite was in the middle with very little privacy or shade, but we walked around and it was one of the only "bad" spots in the place. I reserved it unseen and shortly before we went, so I was just glad to have a spot. If I come again, I'll reserve in advance and get a water view. For us, the camping was secondary as we spent most of the day out on the water. There is a boat launch for larger vessels and a great big parking area to leave your truck and trailer. We were able to park near the grass and air up our inflatable SUPs pretty close to where we put in. We put in near the beach and spent the day paddling around and it was great fun. It's a lovely lake and we had a great time, but not the "most amazing" lake to paddle by any means. I would come again, next time with friends!

Now if you know the beauty of the Umpqua River, you know what I'm talking about! There are gentle roaring rapids washing over large slabs of basalt rocks, covered in moss in many places along this river. There are willows, myrtles, pines that dot the banks. It's just beautiful I tell ya!

850 N. Shore Drive, Lowell, OR 97452 43.9230° N, 122.7966° W…read more Located about 21 miles southeast of Eugene, or 17 miles from Springfield, Lowell State Recreation Site has become one of our favorite recreation spots in the area. For those coming from out of town who don't necessarily want to camp, its location also makes staying at a motel in Eugene or Springfield and making this a day trip very practical. Our first visit was July 3rd. The parking lot was busy, as you might expect going into the holiday, but we were still able to find parking. We liked the area enough that when we returned for several days in August, Wednesday through Sunday, we purchased the $60 annual pass rather than continuing to pay the $10 day-use fee. During our August visits, there was plenty of available parking. The recreation site is well maintained. The flushing restrooms were clean during our visits, and we observed friendly park employees greeting guests and answering questions. There are mature trees providing some welcome shade, open areas, a playground, and a few places to sit. There aren't enough shaded benches that I would depend upon finding one, however. We brought our folding camp chairs and found our own comfortable spot under the trees. For getting onto Dexter Reservoir, there are two concrete boat-launch lanes with floating docks. There is also a rocky shoreline area that works for launching kayaks. You can unload reasonably close to this area, but not directly at the water's edge, so be prepared to carry your kayak and equipment the remaining distance. See the photos for a better idea of the layout. For us, kayaking is what really made this location worth returning to. The reservoir is beautiful, with forested shoreline, surrounding hills and some wonderful views from the water. From Lowell, my map measurement put Dexter State Recreation Site at approximately 0.9 mile across the reservoir. Other destinations around the reservoir make it possible to do more than simply paddle around immediately in front of the boat ramp. We are novice kayakers and were able to paddle from Lowell to Dexter State Recreation Site and back without difficulty, even with some recreational boat traffic on the reservoir. Obviously, conditions can change with wind, weather and boat activity, so our experience shouldn't be taken as a guarantee of what another day will be like. And, for anyone wondering about the August water temperature away from shore: it's cool. I can personally verify that after flipping my kayak and unexpectedly going for a swim. Thankfully, I was wearing my life jacket. After visiting once in July and then returning for several days in August, we came away liking Lowell State Recreation Site even more. Clean facilities, plenty of parking during our visits, good water access, beautiful scenery and enough reservoir to explore that we haven't become bored with it. We bought the annual pass for a reason. We'll be back.

Our plan was to spend one day and to fish the next, however we had such a great time we spent another day! The property and the accommodations are wonderful. This is not a hotel it is a lodge and a retreat and its perfect. Fishing was unsurpassed. We caught and released over 120 fish the first day. The guide was perfect, his boat was clean and new. He was friendly and funny and he knew every hole along the river. He would say say see that rock and log, cast between them and we should get a couple of fish. We did and it was all day long. The fishing was so good we chose to stay another day to fish from shore. Fishing along the shore was also outstanding. Wecaught and released another 40 fish. Anyone will catch fish here. Meals were very good with severlal choices. Cost of meals was on the higher side. I have dreamed of fishing at The Big K Ranch for couple years. Again the entire experience was beyond my dreams. The course is in pretty good shape, the greens roll true, and you're out in a peaceful setting. Lots of trees here--be prepared to have to punch out of trouble; you might even find yourself needing to hit a punch shot after finding the fairway, as some holes have trees growing over the edge of the fairway. Trees aside, there are a couple of water hazards and a fair amount of bunkers that can hurt your score if you aren't careful. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid course. What some of the other reviews have mentioned about the staff seem to be true. While the first employee I met, a college student at UO, was friendly, the person working the front desk seemed stand-off-ish and didn't seem thrilled that I was playing that day. I think the customer service could use some work.

Very bad service and extremely unprofessional staff…read more My son and his friends went golfing using Youth on Course to help with the ridiculous price of a round. They called ahead to ask if they could reserve a tee time, and the employee told them they could just come in and they would find an opening. To avoid the risk of showing up and not being able to play, my son went ahead and booked a tee time. When they arrived, they checked in at the front desk, where a young employee told them that next time they could just come in. Then an older employee, who I assume was the manager, came over and accused them of trying to cheat the system. They weren't trying to cheat anything--they literally did exactly what they were told to do. They were ultimately charged the normal rate , but apparently that wasn't enough. While they were teeing off, the same older employee drove up in his golf cart and started calling them "bitches" and "punks" and accusing them of trying to pull a fast one. Completely unacceptable behavior from someone representing a golf course. If this is how you treat young golfers who are simply trying to use a legitimate youth program, maybe the problem isn't the kids. Maybe it's the staff. They were also told not to come back. After being treated like that, I don't think they'll have any trouble following that instruction. Extremely unprofessional and embarrassing customer service. If the course doesn't want to participate in Youth on Course, perhaps they should reconsider the program--or reconsider who they have dealing with customers.
