Family owned since its inception, a location amidst homes and businesses in Grünerløkka finding the space mostly full of locals, it is outdoors at the bar or seated at tables that guests are treated to top notch service plus a menu that changes at least monthly. Dimly lit with candles on wood tables, leather banquets offering a comfortable seat regardless of weather, diners may choose a la carte or a daily prix-fixe consisting of three courses. Known for a terroir-driven Wine list, mostly French with several offered by the glass, Sunday found Riesling with moderate sweetness well matched to good Bread and a torn Tarte Flambée topped in melted Comté plus roasted Cepes. Hard to pass up Beef Tartare or Norwegian Langoustines, the latter a daily special, suffice it to say there are no regrets when it comes to Turbot roasted until the collagen melts slightly and paired to Chanterelle Mushrooms plus Dill Butter and Leeks the plate more than justified its 465 NOK. Casual and English friendly, though service is gracious and professional, it was only after finishing several creamy Pommes Dauphine that Dessert arrived as dueling Homemade Nougatine Ice Cream and flawless French Toast caramelized over a Custard center with Raspberries and Pistachio Ice Cream.

The staff was excellent. we ordered the olives...great, but just olives in olive oil..simple is sometimes the best. Then we did the sardines, which come in a tin that is halfway rolled open. Super tasty and reminded me that this is available in most places around the world and I needed to be eating it like this more often. Sardines are great nutrient rich food, especially for those of you looking for choline. This followed by one of the stars of the evening--white asparagus In a buttery creamy, maybe a bit of light cheese as well...delicious. We ended the night with two fish dishes, the hake--very good and the poached turbot, which was off the charts exceptional. This is a must try when you visit Oslo...try to make a resy. And then if possible, try to find a spot at the bar.

Please call ahead as otherwise your chances are small due to the size of the place. They have a cheese and deli which I assume is open during the day and a small menu for the evening meals. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and were seated upon arrival. The menu was on a blackboard and consisted of what looked like classic french dishes. We shared a small charcuterie board and I had moules frite. Mussels in a Roquefort sauce. The mussels were excellent and the fries were also plentiful and really nice. The cold cuts were also of good quality. They have a small wine list and I chose a red which was from France and really nice. The lemon pannacotta for dessert with a Parmesan crumble was delicious and I loved it. Although the menu is small it was a lovely meal that was reasonably priced. The ambience here is excellent and we had a lovely evening here. Happily come back here again.

It's not the cheapest joint but it's a really tiny, cozy spot that makes you feel like your in a little bistro in France. White and red checkered table clothes with little candles add to the charm and good food. We also got the duck rillette for an appetizer and it was super tasty, and the mussels. Being from WA State we have some pretty amazing mussels. The ones here were good, but they were super tiny, I am not sure it was worth the price. We live like a block from here so we definitely will be back, I'd really love to try out their dessert.

The shredded duck sizzling away on the grill will draw you in. They top a significant amount of duck on a 10 inch baguette, add arugula, and a tangy mustard sauce. The duck didn't have the strongest duck flavor, but it was still delicious with all the juicy fat. The crusty baguette was fresh too. I normally don't like mustard, but the mustard sauce they used really complemented the duck. Maybe not the best duck confit you'll ever eat, but surprisingly, it was one of the cheapest things I had in Oslo. A sandwich was only 79 KR, which on my credit card resolved to $9.97 USD. Definitely one of the better valued lunch vendors at Mathallen.

Extremely flavourful duck, lightly charred, topped with a strong mustard, wrapped on crusty baguette. Ohhhhh.. now I have to go there again. Good value too, at least for Mathallen's upscale standards. If this is your first trip to Mathallen, this is the first place you should go to. You can dine in and have some fine wine or imported french delicatessen, but I have always been distracted by the big pan of simmering confit de canard in the storefront.

A little on the pricier side because you're paying for the view and location, but the meal was delicious and the service was wonderful. I had the hamburger, which came presented neatly on a wooden cutting board, with a cute fry-basket of french fries. The burger was a-ok, no complaints and no wonderful rave review. I also sampled the salmon and cheesy potatoes (a separate side dish not included with the salmon), both of which were tasty. The best thing, however, was the dessert. A chocolate mousse was plated beautifully on a slate board, and served with white chocolate and raspberry. So delicious! American Express is accepted here and free WiFi.
