Dr. Heinrichs is now practicing in BG & Waterville offices. I took my 8 year old son in to have…read morex-rays and to get an antibiotic since he had an abscess next to his tooth. Dr. Heinrichs insisted the tooth needed to come out immediately. I wanted to wait for the other Dr, since he is my son's regular dentist, but this Dr. would not allow us to wait, nor would he just prescribe him the antibiotic like we wanted. First of all, he told my son that he would only feel a pinch. And after his shots he told him that "that was the worst part" - I asked him, since the tooth was clearly infected, if he'd be able to get it numb enough so he wouldn't feel it, he said yes. Now, before the appt, I had talked to my son about having a tooth pulled bc we were supposed to go see our regular dentist first in their other office in Perrysburg, but that changed when our regular dentist realized the tooth was probably infected, so he just wanted an x-ray and an antibiotic prescribed. However, I had already explained to my son how it would go and that he should raise his hand if he was still feeling pain while the Dr was pulling his tooth. Dr. Heinrichs only gave him 3 shots, which I asked him if that would be enough, and he said yes. As soon as he attached the forceps to my son's tooth, he yelped and raised his hand, Dr. Heinrichs ignored that my child was in pain, so my son started screaming and raised both his hands. I jumped up and said he isn't numb, he's feeling it, but I too was ignored. The Dr continued to yank on his tooth all while my child was clearly in pain and distressed as he screamed the entire 45 seconds to 1 min that it took to get the large molar out. My child is traumatized! As am I by this drs careless actions. He should have stopped as soon as my son flinched and given him more novocaine. This was my son's first experience with a tooth extraction. I wanted to wait for our regular Dr. bc he's more gentle and takes things much slower. Now my son is petrified to go back, and he still needs another tooth pulled. This drs actions completely terrified my child, and then he came back in and basically laughed at my child bc he was still screaming bc it was hurting him so bad. My son cried, screaming in pain for an hour after this appointment. Unacceptable! I never in a million years would have thought a Dr would just ignore a child's pain and continue to yank on his tooth for even a second without stopping to administer more pain meds. I would have recorded it had I known how terrible this Dr was going to handle my child!!
