I never thought I'd be searching on yelp for a funeral home, as I've never had to work with one…read moredirectly. I was supposed to be going on a cruise with my partner, I flew out from California, and sadly, she passed away suddenly right after I got here. I live in California, she lived here, and we kept this crazy cross country relationship going for 20 years. We had a. Helluva run.....
I called, and I spoke to Bernie. He was the primary person I worked with. I came in for my initial visit, he sat down with me to explain the process He was patient, caring, and he listened to what I had to say, We even talked about a few things that helped lighten up the conversation as well. He knew just what I needed to hear.
We made arrangements for them to pick up the body, for the cremation, and for me to pick up her ashes for a later scattering in the Atlantic Ocean. I mentioned it to him that I would like to see her one more time, and we made arrangements to do it the next day. I had earlier stopped by her apartment, there was a suitcase there, and for some reason, I decided to put it in the car. I'm glad I did, because he asked if I had access to clothes. We picked out a nice outfit for her, and also, she used to golf herself, she loved watching professional golf, and her PGA tour baseball cap just happened to be in the suitcase. So we got that for her as well.
I came back the next day to see her, and Bernie advised me that her face did have some bruising because it appeared that she had rolled out of bed right before she passed away. I told him, that's OK, I still wanted to see her one last time. It wasn't as bad as I was afraid it might be, but I'm still glad that he let me know ahead of time. They did the cremation, and I picked her ashes up a couple of days later.
Everybody here was nothing but 100% gracious, friendly, and helpful, they understood what I was dealing with. They answered any questions I might have, they listened to my stories, and they really helped me start my journey in saying goodbye. Thank you so very, very, much......
