Parlor Doughnuts is one of my favorite spots in Pensacola. This location on Palafox in downtown is great, and depending on the day and weather, you might run into a line. I recommend going earlier for the best selection. The layered, super-unique donut flavors really stand out, and the prices match the artisanal quality. Coffee was good too. Food - I had the peach cobbler donut and the turtle cheesecake donut. The peach cobbler donut took be back to my childhood memories of mom's peach cobbler. I didn't know that Parlor Doughnuts was also in Houston so when we were walking around Pensacola, we stopped in for a doughnut since my fiance wanted something sweet. They didn't have many options as their display didn't carry everything but the cashier told us they had more donuts in the back so just to let them know what we wanted to order and they'd get it from the back. I ordered a few mini donuts to share with my fiance, and I enjoyed the cinnamon sugar one. My bridesmaid got the maple bacon doughnut and that doughnut was so massive!! We were able to share it with everyone but I was not a fan of that combo so I didn't try it. Everyone else enjoyed the doughnut. I did really like the merch they sold! Walked here this morning with my dog. Very busy at 9:45, all outside seats were taken and the line was out the door. Cabinets were full of tasty treats. I got Boston Crème, Churro, and Lemon Bar - plus a doggy donut. The coffee was notable, rich and smooth, not burnt or weak. Absolutely worth the value. Donut consistency was like a soft baked airy sourdough , not the typical wimpy yeasty Kk or dense cake brick style of Dd. There was body and structure to hold toppings and filling. Wow! These doughnuts are far and above a usual donut! Parlor offers a delicacy that is more like a cross between a croissant and traditional donut. Light, fluffy, airy, but most importantly DELICIOUS! Aaron, the owner is all too happy to take the time to describe each of the myriad of delectable delights he offers. The breakfast sandwiches and coffee are also excellent! My husband loves this place (5 stars) and I hate this place (0 stars) and I do not get the hype at all. I have tried a handful of donuts that sounded good, but not a single one has tasted good to me. Unique sweets that deserve more than one visit. Parlor doughnuts are not your typical donut. These desserts were described to us as "crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside". My first visit to this spot was definitely that and I can't say that I was pleasantly surprised. For me the donuts were pretty oily and almost pastry like. Like the texture of a croissant or puff pastry. What I love most about donuts is the moist and soft airy inside of them & for me that was missed here. With that said the flavors we tried (cookies and cream, turtle, maple caramel, and pink strawberry shortcake) were good. Nothing was overly sweet & the donuts looked inviting. Staff working the counter were also very nice and helpful. We stopped by around 1:00pm on a Saturday. Maybe visiting earlier might have a different impression for me. I have trouble finding donuts in Ohio that are a cross between croissants and donuts. This place is great with their offerings of "layered" donuts. Some of the unique flavors are too sweet, I would definitely stick to the more basic ones. I wish they had plane ole glaze but I didn't see that offered. Remembering the Cronuts I've eaten in Texas, I found Parlor Doughnuts as the 1st suggestion on my Cronut Yelp search. The owner explained all our choices, describing his donuts as "Layered" rather than Cronut. After a quick cruise of the donut cases I decided on the Holiday Custard and my wife chose the French Toast, adding a Vanilla Latte and Chai Latte. At 1st blush we both were in awe of the size and toppings of these donuts. Had to cut them both in half to make them easier to eat and not wear the toppings. My Holiday Custard was light and flaky and very flavorful with spicy sweet Cinnamon Powdered Sugar and the Eggnog-ish Creamy filling with a heavy nutmeg and clove finish. My wife said the French Toast was also light and fluffy, topped with all things "French Toast". I was able to finish it with the help of my Chai Latte, complimenting the Cinnamon Eggnog flavors. We need to be hungry before coming back for our next Cronut cravings. read more
