Learning from our rookie mistake (it was our first year attending Voodoo Music Festival), on day 2, my boyfriend and I stopped by Parkview Tavern to have a few drinks before going into the venue. We saw that Parkview Tavern was within walking distance of City Park and stopped in there. We ordered our drinks and enjoyed the dive bar feel. There was a mix of locals and concert go-ers, everyone chatting and electrifying the air. They have all of your local bar favorites: pool table, juke box, etc. The bartender was friendly, although overwhelmed by the concert go-er crowd. The drinks were strong and cheap. All in all, if we come back to Voodoo Fest another year, this will be our first stop before heading into the festival gates. read more

I admit, I may be a little predisposed to loving this local watering hole since it was one of the places I always went to after a long day of work in Mid-City, but there's a lot to love. Great Bartenders: "Bunchie" and Chrys are personable and entertaining. Whether it be the quick wit or dry humor these two got it in the bag and I always have a great time under their wing. Cheap Prices: One of the excellent facets of this place are their pitcher options. For $7.50 you can get 4-16oz cups of Abita Amber. For $5, choose from either Coors or Miller High Life. Besides being a great deal, you are issued wooden quarters or plastic chips for each cup of beer you redeem. This gives you the option to save your chips for another visit, and since your beers are served individually--it's always cold. Comfortable Seating Options: The bar itself was recently remodeled allowing for leg room under the bar making it much more comfortable to sit at. There are also rounds in the center of the room for large groups to converge around as well as "pew" style seating against one long wall giving you a great view of all that is going on. Not to mention picnic table seating outdoors with a tv on display through the window. Comes in handy during Saints season since this bar is always packed for Saints and LSU games. Potluck Style Food on Holidays and Game Days: During Saints season as well as other holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year's) the owners as well as long time regulars come together to provide potluck style food including Hog's Head cheese, chips and dip, jambalaya, macaroni and cheese and hotdogs. Friendly Neighborhood Environment: Everybody knows everybody here and comes in handy when trying to network with area business owners. Had a terrible experience here. I live close by.... I go in about 1 time a week , never felt totally comfortable but no biggie. Most people were ok to chat with and most bartenders are nice. The owners are very rude and abusive. If you are a white person, and don't like anyone but your booze, this is your place. They don't seem to like minorities. Parkview...I'm that girl that comes in, gets cash from the ATM, orders the Bloody Mary (no olives, extra beans) and leaves. Every time. I will say this. You have the BEST priced Bloody for what you get. It ain't any Bacon Bloody or super sauced up concoction, but for $4.25, I get a big ole' cup of rejuvenating Bloody Mary with a ton of beans. Your ATM only charges a $2 fee. You live within walking distance of all my friends' abodes and if you have a wait, it's a great spot to pass the time waiting for a streetcar on Carrollton. (You can't bring a Bloody on the streetcar, I know this now) My qualms are that there is definitely a seniority/loyal customer vibe here. You better have the patience to wait for Joe to buy his football squares and be passed up for Joe's visiting sister's drink order to be met before you even get looked at. The loyals look at me a little funny, every time, but they let me get to the bar, so I think we're cool. My ID is always checked regardless of being "that girl" but I don't mind that much. There are pool tables, dartboards and enough TVs on the right channel to enjoy an afternoon. The reason I don't stick around, you ask? I can be in there for the 10 minute total of hitting the ATM, showing my ID, getting my Bloody, and I smell like I bathed in an ashtray when I walk out. It's just that kind of bar. I can't hang. I can just be "that girl." If you can handle that, you've just found yourself a great neighborhood hangout on the Carrollton Streetcar Line. read more

Parkview Tavern (NOT to be confused with Parkway Bakery & Tavern) is a dive bar I've only been to three times, so far, but I've always had a good time. I went once to meet a group of friends and one of them won a nice chunk of change on video poker so that resulted in some free drinks. I also came here twice to recharge my beer meter during the Voodoo Fest. There is usually a decent small crowd in here and the space has a unique "hand built" quality about it. The drinks are pretty cheap and there are lots of TV's all over the place. The biggest issue with this place is EVERYBODY seems to be smoking so even with the doors open it can be pretty irritating in here. They do have a nice patio area outside that is comfortable to enjoy when the weather is nice. read more

This is got to be my favorite dive bar in the Crescent city. When you go there for a Saints game everyone seems like they're on acid and they sing songs for all the players. It's a very unique experience and don't forget they have free food and if you don't want to eat the food there you can go get barbecue next-door were walking across the street and get charcuterie. Definitely a local bar and although this place is in walking distance from my house not sure if I want to make it my local bar. Stopped in one night with my roomate since we haven't been in yet. $5 Ketel One Martini which we were both delighted by. Not a fan of a $20 hold being put on your card if you don't use cash. Wish the bartender told me that before he swiped my card. The bartender seemed to be more at home than at work and spent most of his time outside with friends after pouring our drinks. This could be a great place for some people, I'm just not that type of girl that digs this time of watering hole. Guess this "local" won't be calling it her local bar. Was there on Saturday night, 10/22/16. Went with my husband and friends to watch the LSU game. Bartender, Lori was so rude to my husband. My husband frequents this bar at least three nights a week. He asked her politely to turn the game on and she said " I really don't give a fu$& what you want" I was shocked that she spoke to him that way. I got up and went outside. My husband stayed at the bar a few more minutes. Again she was rude and obnoxious. He said he would take his business elsewhere. She remained rude by telling him she would call the cops on him... I like Parkview. I like the outside tables and the semi-stale but free popcorn and the very, very cheap Abita on tap with tokens so you can drink your pitcher in moderate, pint-sized portions and then save some for next time. I like Bunchie and Chris and their free food at Saints games, especially the hogshead cheese shaped like a fleur-de-lis made by the inimitable Vaughn of Creole Country Meats. Even if this place wasn't attached to the building I work in, I would still come here for what is possibly the cheapest beer in Midcity. Although the prices were recently raised by like .50 cents (which caused some minor freak-outs by regulars), you can still get a pitcher of High Life for $6. The brilliance of this place is how they serve pitchers. When you buy one, you get as many pours as you like from it (well, up to 4, I guess) and the remainder is given to you in tokens. Wood tokens for HL and plastic for the Magic Hat and Amber. It works well for me (a person who doesn't lose things), and it works well for the bar (because most people lose things). Plus, when you find one at the bottom of your purse or in your pocket a few days later, your dumb brain tells you you've just found a free beer! The bartenders here are really great and seem to remember everyone and what they're drinking. It's just a nice, typical, dive-y neighborhood bar, and my only complaint is that it can become a real cigarette hell-cave, but this is New Orleans and I guess I need to just cope with that smokey reality. Great atmosphere to relax and chat. Staff is so friendly, after we ordered we had another bar goer tell us their pitchers were really cheap and the bartender overheard us say we should have ordered that instead when he brought us our drinks so he gave us two free drink coupons because just our two drinks equaled the price of the pitcher, awesome guy! My girlfriends place is close so we will definitely return and I would suggest this place to anyone- also it has pool! Boooooooo....they raised the prices of "Pitchers" by 50 cents. that's a whole 12.5 cents per beer! Oh well....still the cheapest anywhere and I still giving it 5 stars. Great place to RELAX! Always calm and laid back , very affordable bar. Mostly filled with locals who are "regulars" older more friendly crowd. Very decent rest rooms, long bar and also side seating for a more private meeting. Public bookshelf, free popcorn to snack on and free WiFi. Nice picnic tables outside with cover of sun or rain for you loners . Great location , rite on streetcar route (museum) easy parking , and next door to a great Italian eatery ! read more
