While the kids practice you can walk or run around the facility (~1 mile completely around the park). The only minor knock on the facilities is the limited bathrooms/dependence on porta-potties. However the people and the parents we've encountered at Steele Creek are all top notch and know what family/community is about. This is a great association for families. We really lucked up by moving to this area of Charlotte.

Optimists are a…read morevolunteer civic organization similar to Lions or Kiwanis and have more than 3,000 clubs in 20 countries. Their motto is "Friend of Youth" and this ballpark shows it. There are two decent sized baseball/softball fields here with a brick building that houses restrooms. There are some bleachers for the spectators. In between the fields, a small playground with swingset to keep the other kids active while their siblings might be playing ball. The playground has a climbing set with slides and is on a soft mulch base. A decent amount of dirt/stone parking and a few speedbumps to keep folks from going too fast. You down with OPP? Yeah you know me!…read more Now that I got that out of the way, Olde Providence Park (OPP) is a pretty neat and rather large park tucked into the back of an old neighborhood. Seems to have a lot of history in the area and you can tell the facilities and ball parks have been here a while. It's also conveniently connected to an elementary school for the kids to use during the school day. There are at least seven baseball fields and three full playgrounds. There's one large open field area that could easily be used as a small soccer field. My favorite feature is a meandering nature trail that runs through the forested area around the back and sides of the park. Along the trail you can even find two large seating areas for outdoor classrooms and nature-based learning. The parking situation seems limited as you're using the school's lot and the bathroom facilities were closed on a day when no games were happening. Good thing they also had a porta-potty out there. For a Sunday afternoon "walk in the park" though, this place is great. Quiet and peaceful.

Not much for playground or basketball, but there are other parks nearby that do have them. The park is set back from Johnston Road so it's quite secluded as far as traffic goes.
