We have been to a few libraries for story time and Oxon Hill is hands down the best. They do a great job picking books that engage the kiddos. Plus the music/movement breaks are always on point. The staff is always friendly, engaging, and welcoming. I adore this library and highly recommend their story time for the little humans. Let me also add that they have a great Children's book section.

Once I borrowed the thermal imaging camera to try it out. The Oxon Hill library is one of my go to libraries. Good customer service. Staff is always helpful. And it's a nice facility. They often have an art exhibit on display. There was none today but I'll be sure to look for it the next time I stop by. If you're not from east of the river, it's just off of the highway on your way to the National Harbor. The man who designed it is also the genius who designed the National African-American History and Culture Museum. He created this library to be "a brutalist treehouse." It stands on a hill overlooking the city and does give off the treehouse vibe. Although it's one building, it looks as if it has several towers with the majority of the space outside of the bottom floor. Once you enter, walk up the stairs to the second floor for the kids section and the top floor with the rest of the books, computers, private rooms, and community space. There are many windows letting in natural light. This library's programming is on point. They have poetry days, hip hop dance classes, and photography workshops. If you're into design and photography, this is a true hidden gem in the city.

The front desk was very helpful in walking me through the check out process since it was my first time actually using my card. The difference in the 2 visits is night and day. The first time, it was a questionable atmosphere. But that was also during the summer and seemed like a lot of the youth used it as a means of escape. This time, the crowd was quiet, calm and focused. I checked out a few books to get lost in but I do wish they had more options - most of the shelves are 50% bare. Typically you can find a desk towards the end of a row or books that feel more intimate I will absolutely come back but plan to explore more libraries in the area first. Also the service at the front was top tier. They had an issue and ultimately could not help me but they did try every step and were communicative throughout the process.

Once inside, you can find thousands of books, DVDs, and plenty of seating to read. They also have small conference rooms and private working offices for those who need intense quiet. They have a computer lab for free for people to check their emails and do work requiring the Internet. They host a variety of community events and even have a Capital Bikeshare just outside the front door to encourage commuting.

They immediately asked for SOMEONE ELSE by name. A man. I informed them the previous tenants moved out and I live here now. (A female) They then started to ask me all this personal info. I already completed my 2020 census. I have asked them to please leave me alone many times. They ignore my request. It's frightening. They knock for 10-15 minutes each time causing my dog to go crazy which disturbs me while I'm working and causes chaos since I can't hear my calls at that point. Then, they somehow cunningly obtained my phone number without my consent!! My number is listed as private and now they have been blowing up my phone several times a day! It's terrifying and extremely stressful! Why are they stalking me if I'm not the person they're asking for? I fear for my safety. Men should not be allowed to HARASS women and disrespect her wishes to be left alone, no matter who is supposedly paying them.

Go on line to the secure website and answer about five questions. I may be mistaken but I thought years ago there was a million questions about income and more. It's pretty easy when your household is one. I only became confused when it asked my race and I said White. Then I was asked origin I believe. My origin is United States. Not sure I understood so I changed it to Italian. That's where my ancestors came from. We've been here so long I'm not sure why that matters. I'm here and I don't plan on going anywhere. That should be enough. I'm a human bean! Maybe I missed something on the back of the letter. Q and A didn't help me. Oh well! I most likely won't be here for the next Census. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm considering myself counted no matter what I am. Shhhh don't tell anyone but I'm not from this planet.

You can assist with the early election days (morning or afternoon) or just work on election day. Volunteer training takes place at the Board of Elections. The trainers were nice. The seats are comfy and each person gets their own "desk" space. I believe one voice makes a difference. Voting is a way to have a say in what is going on. Plus, you get a sticker.
