I visited this library for a book sale, primarily, but also to just check out another FCPL location. It's very modern looking on both the outside and inside with lots of windows allowing for natural sunlight to pour in. The book sale was in a couple of rooms off to the side in the front. I took a quick lap around and the children's section seemed well placed. I'll definitely return to peruse the selections more. read more

It's a decent library. I like the regional ones, as they have a lot more selections. Architecture wise stunning looking. Really appreciate this, and I know others who likewise are grateful. This one can be rather busy. Unfortunately getting a computer can be a challenge. I wish they'd put more in here. As for the book selection, it's pretty good. I've had better luck with fiction than non fiction. Magazines and newspapers are here, as are considerable reference selections. For students this can be quite helpful. Like most everything, libraries are doing things differently during COVID times. The service desks have plexi shields and they strongly encourage masks---I have seen some older folks and young kids without them. They offer curbside pickup of things 10-4 and it works pretty well, although I've waited on hold for several minutes when picking up at a busy time. They have a few computers and tables for use but you can only stay for 30 minutes. Look for other places if you need to study or work for an extended period. All that said, the staff are there and seem to be working hard and are as nice as always. Still enjoy coming here. read more

Love all baby toddler sessions based on this location; I drive with my girl to join sessions from different libraries for her quality time as a stay home mom now; this library is the best of the best. I feel warmth among staff toward people and Dawn, the storyteller for kids is an absolute gem here and always feel thankful for being here with my girl. read more

Burke Centre Library is located right off the Fx Co Pkwy at Freds Oak. You can easily see it when driving North on the Pkwy. The parking lot is a decent size and offers "carpool" parking (is it what I assume it is?) and hybrid car parking. Lots of handicap parking spots as well. There is a drive-up window to return books. I've never seen this at any other library around FX Co, Inside it has a modern feel with lots of light and high ceilings. For studying- Beautiful library with ample room to sit and study. There's regular tables, comfy sofas, and cute bar stool type seating as well. The library is very open so the noise from children's section might be a distraction. They have meeting rooms which you can book ahead of time. As usual, there's no food allowed but covered drinks are welcome :) read more

I'm old school. I love books. I still prefer reading actual books in lieu of e-books where I can still flip through the pages and observe my progress on how much I have left to read by my bookmark. (I do not like to crease the pages.) The Fairfax County Public Library System is exceptional. As an avid library consumer, I search for whatever piece of literature that I am interested in reading on the online catalogue system and merely have it sent to my preferred location- Burke Centre Library. This process usually only takes 2-3 days, and I am notified via email when my requested books are available for pick up. The Burke Centre location was recently constructed, has a drive thru, organized, parking is not an issue, and never seems too busy. Books and libraries are treasures. Going to the library always makes me feel so fortunate that we have such a lovely system in place where we are able to borrow books for free! Dorky, I know. read more

This review is only about children's section. All in all, there wasn't much. The library has good lighting (LEED Silver accreditation) but the children's section was lacking. Not many books, not many chairs, no toys for little ones, no nooks or crannies for children to make their own space. Was it adequate? Maybe, but I wouldn't choose this library out of any other libraries for my preschoolers. The one highlight of the area was the kid sized chair and kid sized table that the computer was on. My preschooler loved it. Also spoke to two librarians while there. One was very nice. The other was very rude. I wish I had gotten her name, but I wanted to leave the library after talking to her. read more

This library is really nice. It has plenty of parking and can be easily seen from the main road. It is small but there is plenty of seating. The meeting rooms are nice. I've gone here multiple times for free library events. Registration is easy online. I like the quick self check-out. It's quiet. I like the children's section. read more

I have been using this library branch while the Pohick branch is closed. It is smaller than Pohick and doesn't have as many book titles or periodicals. They are automated; customers can check out books and pay fines using self-service kiosks. The staff has been friendly and helpful. read more

This is a very nice modern facility, but it is not a quiet library. If you're looking for a library to study for "serious" exams, this may not fit your needs if you require a quite environment. During the week, after 3pm. there's always a group-or-two of kids and this also appears to be a place popular for after-school tutoring. I came here three week days in a row to prepare for an exam, and a yacky tutor's motor mouth was in overdrive. A few of the other tutors were more discreet, but this is not a quiet zone after 3pm. read more

Usually the librarians here are extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. But today one librarian, a taller white woman, was extremely dismissive and hostile towards my little brother (a seven year old) and I when we politely asked for help finding a book. She acted annoyed that we asked for help and like I was an idiot for not being able to find the particular book I was looking for. Maybe her unpleasant disposition it had to do with the dark complexion of our skin. Very unfortunate. read more

Kinda hard to mess up a library. Yeah, it was quiet, the clerk was helpful, and it wasn't too crowded, so I was able to stay on the computer for more than 30 minutes with no one else waiting. Printing is also fairly cheap, 15 cents a page. read more

Great quite little library, not the largest but a nice place to study, my only negative remark is that is is always freezing in here! Don't know if they keep the thermostat on 60 or what, but remember to bring your winter jacket in the summer months! read more

One of my favorite libraries ever! I grew up at Pohick library but when this opened up a few years ago, and to have it right by my house changed everything! The library itself is so open and roomy, the building was built as part of a green initiative so there are LOTS of windows to stream in natural light. My favorite place to sit is behind the desks in the middle because of the floor to ceiling windows that give you a serene view of forestation. I love watching the birds and squirrels climb around while doing my work. The windows themselves are insulated so sitting by one won't cause you to feel drafty. The focus on green living also includes the light bulbs which are high brightness fluorescent which save a butt load of money. Even the toilets have low and high water amounts! They always have events going on and they are always throwing book sales which benefit the library directly so I don't feel bad about purchasing a book, not only is it reusing something that someone didn't want but it's helping a good cause! I love this library, I would sit there everyday if I could. Libraries raised me to be the book nerd I am today! read more

I agree with Tom R. Unfortunately the librarians, particularly a certain one who works at the information desk/children, are extremely rude and unprofessional. I called recently about a program and couldn't believe how terrible I was treated. If you are going to work with the public, particularly children, you should at least understand basic customer service and courtesy. This is not the first time I have experienced a negative encounter with that woman. In fact, she is known in the community for being rude. I hope she is switched to another position. The atmosphere is very negative. The building itself is beautiful, and there is a great selection of new and good condition materials. read more
