He asked to use the phone to call his wife and was refused by staff. Libraries were once places of refuge and community support--sadly, that does not seem to be the case here. read more

This seems to be one of bigger libraries in Fairfax County, and I really enjoy all the activities that are offered here. In particular was the Easter Egg Hunt, along with story time. My son really enjoyed it! I bring my son to story time regularly, and like how the librarians who do story time include different activities. My son loves the bubble machine, and also the sing along songs. Library story time participants should sign up in advance. read more

This library is nice but very strict. Little talking is allowed and troubleshooting is next to impossible. It has its pros and cons. I would generally prefer the Oakton and Vienna branches. The Alexandria libraries may not be as nice, but are free-spirited, with a more pronounced sense of community. read more

I do like that this library is very quiet. Some of us prefer that, as this is what they're supposed to be. Yet not all are. This one is hidden a bit, back from 236 yet close enough. That's probably what helps in this. A friendly and helpful staff too. Also I find this place due to its ambiance relaxing, and you can find a computer here. That alone is a miracle. Yes you might have to wait a little while, but not spend half a day. Also they have an incredible reference section. This could be amongst the best. As for book choices it works. Non fiction will usually be better, as fiction ones in demand, can have substantial wait times. All in all this one works, and the chairs are comfortable. read more

It is my go to library. Librarians are the most helpful, from computer to printing assistance; they willing always. The library is quiet and you can get work done as soon as you arrive. Continue the good works. read more

We have been going here for years. From the time my son was a bitty-boo to today, this is "our" library. We have always loved coming here for books and tutoring and there is something for everyone. It is located right off of Little River Turnpike and is easily accessible. They have every genre and media you could want, as well as computers and printers, private rooms, and common tutoring/study areas; both quite and normal activity levels. They also have self-checkout or assisted. We have utilized all but the private rooms. They have a wonderful community information area in the front where you can find classes, government info, pamphlets, book donation box, and all sorts of useful, helpful info. You can also donate books here anytime and they have a yearly used book sale which is the bomb. As others have stated, there are always homeless friends here so if this is going to bother you or make you nervous then this is not the location for you. I will say that our last visit was a bit bothersome because there was a mother with three kids that were literally running around, screaming at the top of their lungs; no one did anything to stop it and there were at least three employees nearby. I was side-swiped by one of the kids running and we both almost got hurt and it was impossible to concentrate with the screaming. I don't think that a library by any means should be at a whisper but I also don't think this was fair or appropriate behavior given the people trying to study or just read. I hope that in the future, the staff will actively encourage respectful behavior for a community space. After all, it is a library and not an outdoor playground. This was a huge disappointment to have to experience such unruly kids ruining the beauty of a library. read more

Too many homeless people go there to sleep with a book and take up a table knowing they won't be kicked out. Therefore, the place stinks.

I did not know this would be a problem until I became a parent -- but finding a storytime on the weekend is practically damn, near impossible. George Mason Library gets big ups for me for their Saturday morning storytime that is: 1) Not too late and not too early -- just right before naptime! 2) Not too crowded 3) Fun for both big kids and little itty bitties 4) Free 5) Interactive -- They pull out a ton of props from puppets, to silk scarves to egg shakers that all the kids can use Even though my little one is one of the youngest in the class, she always sits up with attention and squeals with delight whenever a song starts. I only really go to the library for the book sales. Like most book sales, this has become unpleasant due to pushy and overly smelly book pickers. They claim all of the good books in the first 1/2 hour, place boxes in the aisles and push everyone out of the way. No longer worth going to. The only highlight are the books that have been hand-picked by library staff and placed in the display cases at the entrance. These are usually reasonably priced and good quality, and priced more for the public than pickers. read more

This is the library nearest to me and I honestly didn't make use of it until COVID because now I telework from home and I don't have a reliable home printer. I don't need to print daily but when I do, I found it so convenient to do so at the library. I also love that you don't have to remember your library card, you can easily pick up a guest pass on the kiosks and use the computers. The printing fees are also very reasonable which has saved me money as I've seen places charge $3 a week page. read more

This is not the best (I really like Oakton Library) FFX county library nor is it the worst (Pimmit Hill Library is questionable at best). I use it as a place to pick up items I have requested as well as my go-to spot for books to read to head-start kids. The staff is nice as well as helpful. Although mistakes happen with some returns they are pretty good about fixing it when you let them know. read more

Jackpot! We hit the biannual library book sale on half price afternoon! I knew they were giving away something based on he parking lot buZz alone. Not a spot open and police for crowd control! Once inside we found books galore for sale! All marked down to low low prices. Just $1 or $2 in many cases. We got a box full of gems for $10! The staff was well organized and books were in areas by category. A long line of registers handled the mobs of bargain hunters well. I'll be back in September for the next sale! read more

This place used to be the place to run into random classmates when I was in high school. Not much has changed about this place since I was in High school. They are limited to books, but I really love the free online audio and e-book options that are available. If you download overdrive and use your library account, you can check out up to 10 audiobooks/e-books at a time. You can place holds on popular titles. I listened to so many audiobooks for free thanks to this. The library staff is nice and well-organized. If you place a hold on books, they will reserve it for you in their pickup bookshelf based on your last name. Check-out is a fast and easy process. They have 2 self-checkouts and full service. There is a quiet study room in the corner of this library with power outlets to charge your electronics. Reliable internet. They have glass walls at the back of the library where the study tables are and I really like how you can see outside. It doesn't make you feel like you're stuck in a suffocating and boring place. Compared to a University library, it isn't as good in terms of material, but for a public library, it has little bit of everything that a diverse age group needs. I used this library so many times before college and I plan to do so even more. read more

OK... So I spent do many year in university libraries that a public library is a letdown. However, this branch of the Fairfax library system is pretty good. First, they have a nice kids section with selections in English, Spanish, and Korean. There are kid sized tables and chairs, but the chairs are strong enough to hold a reasonable sized adult. However, the kids' section of DVD's is disappointing. For the adults, the fiction section is pretty good, with a nice combination of best sellers and classic works. They even have some collections manga, which I have never seen in a public library before. The magazine section is extensive. Finally, though the desk can have a wait, there is also a self-checkout option. In all, it's a pretty good public library. read more

In terms of books, George Mason Regional has everything that I'm looking for. If not, they'll have it within a few days of you reserving it. GMR even has new, popular books hanging on the shelves. They're awesome in that department. BUT if you're looking for a study area, you need to look elsewhere. This library gets really busy and the noise level is at times or most often difficult to ignore. There's a quiet room there, but at times it's not quiet enough=/ The staff is wonderful and they have quick self-check out lines, so you can get in and out pretty quickly! TIP: their hours change throughout the year, so be sure to call or check online before coming! read more

Ok, so this library is so odd. Now the staff is great and they have the typical book sale, kids area and kids activities but it's always crowded and you're lucky if there's an available computer. I went to study and use the Quiet Study area and it was crowded with sleeping patrons. There is a large population of homeless at this library. If you have headphones and don't mind the crowd or a sleeping neighbor than it's just OK. Not my favorite library and I only go here if my campus library is closed. read more

I have not been to this library for about 6 months. Usually I have a good visit but during my visit today a stench permeated upon entry. A friend told me more homeless/nonbathing people have been at the library which is fine because it is a public place. The library needs to address the "smell" issue so all patrons can have a good and productive visit. read more
