This Park to Shop store looked really nice inside. The store has a pleasant aesthetic. They had some good food options. I liked that they had refrigerated soy milk, because I really enjoy soy milk, e.g., VitaSoy soy milk. I was not aware of a lot of other options for Chinese grocery stores in this particular area of Chicagoland. Park to Shop in Westmont had the best grocery carts I have found in all of Chicagoland area. Their carts were at a much more comfortable height than I have found at other stores. Their grocery carts were also more mobile and versatile than other grocery carts that I have used, making it easier to move around the store and to do shopping. It looked like they had great options for food. I saw a lot of different options for tofu. The staff seemed nice when I first went there. read more

I mean this isn't high end lemon tree stuff but all the needs of cooking a Chinese cuisine at home are pretty much here. Sure they could prolly tidy up some but that's not what this Chinese grocer is about. Instead it's plenty of selection. I scored dried chilies, green and red Sichuan spice, 4 different kinds of soy sauce, black vinegar, sesame oils, the list goes on. There was only one or two of many items left on shelves. Decent shop for picking up Asian groceries. I like to come here for the vegetables, tea, and Asian desserts. Last time I came here, I picked up a box of mung beans popsicles. Delicious! Perfect on a hot, sunny day. They're also usually stocked with one of my favorite candies, Kopiko. Great caffeinated, coffee-based lozenge for when you need a pick me up. Service was efficient. It should be removed but not sure how to notify Yelp about this. Therefore the low ratings are unfair. This store is far superior to the old store. There is plenty of selection, produce and Inventory, unlike the old store. Please shop here. We wandered in here in stumbling across this little Asian community in seeking out International Mall to share a meal at Chinese Café. After perusing a few aisles, we were confused - were they closing down and going out of business? While shelves were indeed stocked, they were barely so, with wide gaps in between sections in the rows and columns of bottled sauces, dry goods, and so on. The deli section was dark, unlit, as were several other areas that normally would also be well-lit. Those sections were all completely empty as well. It was an unusual sight to us and left us both theorizing. Upon reaching the also-empty fish tanks that my Irishman peered into, a voice called over that the fish would arrive tomorrow. Again, we found ourselves contemplating theories. Maybe they were just now opening the store and still getting it in order. It would explain the boxes upon boxes of greens sitting in on the floor in the produce section, waiting to be processed, and the single rows of bottles where other markets would have rows stacked behind rows both to give impression of plentifulness and to maximize profit-to-investment ratio in their inventory restocking. Realistically, a quick Yelp scan through the market's reviews would have set the matter straight immediately, but we were having fun. Come to find out now, the market has been around as Whole Grain Market for well over a decade. Wow. So much for all that theorizing. So what we have is a little market in a location far larger than it seems to be capable of handling well. One with prices too high and both variety and quantity too low to warrant being a strong contender as a staple supermarket for the surrounding Asian community given several other, far better-stocked and priced options. While glad for the cans of grass jelly and basil seed drinks to pair with our lunch date at the Chinese Café next door, I'll give this one a miss aside from that. read more

I went to Whole Grain Market to pick up my usual 100 count boxes of Oolong & Jasmine tea bags. Much to my dismay, the doors were locked during normal business hours. There was no indication that it was out of business, but the lady in the restaurant next door said they closed down the business. She further informed me that a new owner was tentatively going to re-open sometime after the first of 2021. Needless to say, I was sad and disappointed. Now I need to find another Chinese vendor who will sell 100 count boxes of my favorite teas. I went to the Chinese store in the strip mall behind Jewel-Osco (north of) but they only carry 40 count bags of tea, and they are bulk-packed. read more

Ownership has changed to Park and Shop. This place was dim, scary looking, and really high prices. I went in to pick up Korean Rice Cakes. Wow. Prices were easily more than 50% less. I don't understand the store's low ratings. We went here looking for specialty items -- preserved eggs, dried shitake mushrooms, Chinese broccoli, frozen green onion pancakes, fresh (and packaged) dim sum, and so forth, and found everything we wanted in a clean store with wide aisles and logical organization. Multiple options for all non-fresh items. Parking is easy (hence the name?) and the wait at check out was short. I'm quite happy with my visit here, and I'll be back! read more

Man this place looks DEAD. It literally looks like a grocery store in a post apocalyptic world. I would say that 90% of the lights were off. The produce and seafood section in the back was non existent. Their shelves were so bare and only 1 row deep when they did have something. Most of their foods were super shelf stable stuff, because business was clearly not strong enough to support produce or anything with a expiration date within a month. The drinks cases were only half lit and none of it was cold. There was only one person working who seemed to just be watching movies on their phone and seemed uninterested in checking us out. We used to love this place, as dilapidated as it used to be, when it was Whole Grain. Now it's Park and Shop, and it's a whole new place. Utter surprise at how gorgeous it is now. Fully stocked, great produce section, clean and beautiful, big live fish selection. Our daughter turned me on to a whole new bunch of stuff here. If you thought it was quaint before, it's a completely different experience now. We went in for a few items, and walked out with a bunch. Feel very lucky to have a place like this in town with lots of exotic items (exotic to ME, anyway). And the prices are excellent. read more

Last time I visited this location, it was poorly lighted, with very little produce and dark aisles of empty shelves. I returned yesterday and was delighted to find the place completely redone. Brightly lighted, aisles clean and stacked with a huge variety of products and an extensive produce section. Reasonable prices. A change of owners, I presume. Will definitely return. read more

Store Review: Is this place closing down? This place is unfortunately a sorry example of a grocery store. When you walk in, many of the shelves are barren as if a disaster had hit and the store was ransacked. There is your typical selection of asian goods, but the prices are slightly higher than chinatown and possibly less fresh. This place felt like a ghost town. I ended up buying some groceries and afterwards regretted it as the price for a bag of rice was 4-5 dollars more than other asian groceries stores I have been to. I have been going to this store for many years. It used to be called DIHO Market. I can usually find what I want at this unique store. It doesn't have as many patrons as it used to have ,I am worried we may not be around much longer if people don't start going there. It's not only for ethnic Chinese folks ! I love coming to this store, it's clean, well stocked, and the products are in well marked aisles, but my experience with the staff has been extremely disappointing. This morning, I shopped around with my family. Two adults and one teenager. We were followed the entire time. It wasn't the sort of situation that could be misinterpreted, because we walked across the entire store, and there was a man wearing a grey puffer jacket following us. (I know he worked there because he rang us out) Every 2 mins, he would either walk into the end cap of the aisle we were in and pretend to fix something, or he would walk across, staring. Another lady in uniform entered the aisle we were in SEVERAL times and stood next to where we were, adjusting product or moving things around, while glancing over her shoulder. We are all visibly Mexican, and we occasionally spoke to each other in spanish while in the store. Offended doesn't cover it. We were made to feel like criminals and we weren't doing anything wrong. I still can't think of a reason they could have been following us other than the fact that we were Mexican. The store was full of other people, yet we seemed to be the only ones of interest to the employees. Maybe we will try shopping here again, but not for a while. read more

It's been a long time since I've been here, and it's really gone downhill. Back in the mid-2000s, this place was THE Asian ethnic market accessible to the west and southwest burbs. Maybe there was better stuff up in Schaumburg, but this seemed to be the only place this far south and west. They had lots of good produce, and important spices and ingredients that were hard to find elsewhere. It was never super fancy, but it had that charm that let you know you were getting good value. Those days are gone. As other reviewers have noted, the store looks like it was hit by a tornado. When I visited, there was no produce out, and the produce area looked to be barricaded. There was nothing out in the fresh food cases or behind the counters, though that might just have been from it being early in the day. Then again, I was clearly the only person in the store. The shelves were minimally stocked with very little product. I was sad to see the place in this state, but glad I hadn't made a special trip. I hope they can make a comeback someday. I really thought this store was closed as I walked into it. There was hardly anything on the shelves. I stuck my hand behind weird curtain thing that keeps the frozen food cold and everything was lukewarm. For the hell of it, I decided to check out the produce and there was maybe 10 items. I circled back to the front and saw a man with a drink in his hand looking for someone to check him out. I've been to a lot of Asian grocery stores and can deal with the depressing warehouse vibe and bizarre smells (well, to an extent) for the most part. This store, however, is the worst. It's ridiculously large and yet barren. The produce looks very sad and wilted... the most egregious example being a bunch of wrinkly, dark brown bananas. The items on the shelves looked really old too. I can now say that I've seen burgundy-colored Heinz ketchup before. (Although... who is buying Heinz ketchup at the Asian grocery store anyway? Why are they even selling this stuff?) Everything is super expensive as well. I saw a can of coconut milk marked at $2.75 (I can buy coconut milk at other Asian grocery stores for $1.39, or $1.89 at the supermarket where "ethnic" items are marked up) and a box of Wei-Chuan dried noodles for over $12 (are you kidding me?? And I had thought $6.50 was expensive at the supermarket). read more

Whole Grain Fresh Market is located directly east of the International Mall and Yu's Mandarin. It's an Asian grocery store with products like you'd find in Chinatown or along Argyle, but in a larger space than most. In the handful of times I've been there, I've been a solo shopper, or perhaps one of two people present. Staffing seems to be pretty lean (just one checkout lane open on the times I've visited). Their selection of goods did not seem to be notably greater than the typical Asian market despite the size differential. They have everything you'd expect to find, but no great surprises. The produce racks and refrigerated units are sparsely populated - one area where the larger square footage isn't doing them any favors. It was nice, however, to be able to find the ingredients for som tam salad like Thai chilis, palm sugar, green papaya, dried shrimp, fish sauce (Three Crabs, Squid and others) just a few minutes from home. As an added bonus, they have the difficult-to-find Kewpie brand mayo, which I haven't seen elsewhere in the w. burbs. Give it a try if you're stuck in a Hellman's rut. I'm glad that Whole Grain Fresh Market is not too far away. I wish they had a greater variety of produce and that they'd spruce the interior up a bit, but I will take it as-is. read more

Growing up in the Western Suburbs in the 80s and 90s, Diho was the only place within easy driving distance where my parents could get all their Chinese/Taiwanese staples. In grade school, I thought Diho was cool because they sold Botan Rice Candy - you know, the with the inner rice-paper wrapper that melted in your mouth. That stuff was awesome. One of my very favorite grocery stores in the world. A unique, stand-alone grocer featuring solely asian foods of all types (frozen, nonperishable, etc.) including live fish and other acquatic life. Incredible and especially for the fresh baked goods they carry occasionally (such as the fermented rice sweet, sweet red bean paste buns, pork buns, etc.). Man...this place was known as DIHO my entire life. I was very surprised when I came in one day to find they had changed their name, but that is all that has really changed with this place. This is one of the first asian markets I started shopping at with my parents, and they have everything you could possibly need as far as asian goods go. When I was a kid I used to climb atop the mounds of 50-lb bags of rice they had stocked up at in the front of their store. I would get my Pocky fix and Rice candies here. It's authentic, that's for sure. If you're looking for Peking Duck, fish heads for soup, live fish or crabs, or any of a hundred other Asian items they probably have it. They prepare a good amount of items in-house such as bakery items, duck (roasted or Peking), and other to-go dishes. For the uninitiated this place may seem a little bizarre. They have tanks with live fish in the back, whole ducks hanging from a rack (think fa ra ra ra ra) and odd cuts of meat. There are even more frozen and refrigerated items that are out of the mainstream (at least in the U.S.). They also have hard to find accessories like knives, steamers, bowls, etc... This place used to be one of my favorite places to get fun candy and ramune, but in the past couple of years it is just not the same. They don't have any of the candy the used to which is fine, but there is just no selection any more. I can deal with the prices being high, but they are too high for everyday items. They do have a good selection of grab and go drinks and fresh bakery items like pork rolls and mochi buns, but not as many of the snacks. I have never actually come here for groceries, but it seems like their produce is good. I imagine it is expensive. They have a tank of live fish in the back as well. WGFM has reopened. It seems like many of the businesses in this shopping complex are having issues staying open for business. The product offering is meager at the moment. Shelves are a bit empty Meat options are minimal at best (this has never been a place to purchase meat). Prepared foods (roasted duck, pork products, rice dishes) are not around anymore either........will they return. The selection was all over the place. Missing a few standards, but then they had a few unexpected items. The produce was pretty bad -- mostly old, and very poor selection. One highlight was the small freezer case full of vegetarian meat (mostly VeriSoy brand). I'm not a huge fan of fake meat, but the selection was pretty impressive, and included shrimp, shredded crab, cuttlefish balls, ham, goose, and squid. I wouldn't bother making the trek again, though. Don't expect to get accurate translations of package contents. I asked the clerk if a package of green tea was matcha powder. It was in the same place on the shelf where i had gotten matcha before. She assured me it was macha. 10 bucks for a small, completely opaque bag with foreign writing in it. Of course when i opened it there was loose green tea leaves. Not matcha. I asked to exchange it and the clerk said they cant take back open packages. How could i tell the cashier gave me the wrong product without opening it i asked. She replies Not my fault. You cannot return. So for 10 bucks they have lost my business. I cant believe they stay open with this nasty service. There is no one ever in the place. Like others have said, the inventory for produce and even dry goods has been significantly low. I wasn't able to find any sesame oil when I recently visited. I too also wonder if they are struggling. It's sad to see as it was once a bustling grocery store. I think you might have better luck going to HMart in Naperville or Pete's Fresh Market on Pulaski in Archer Heights (a minute South of I-55) for Asian grocery items. read more

You'd think this place has a decent location, what with the Taiwanese cafeteria that gets consistent traffic and it's practically in the middle point between Naperville (where there's an H Mart) and Chinatown. Unfortunately, they barely have any produce, seafood, butcher to make it worth coming here for some general Asian grocery shopping. They couldn't even strike some deal to supply the local restaurants nearby to keep a decent turnover? What they do have, however, are all the different sauces that you may need for Chinese cooking, and that's what consistently brings me back here as it's the closet place by me that sells Taiwanese Black Vinegar (I use that a lot). read more
