I attended The Odyssey special presentation in 70mm. The staff were friendly and polite and they had a film projectionist present at the screening. The 70mm picture was sharp, contrasty and bright. The sound was balanced (tough for a Nolan film). I highly recommend this location for 70mm event showings. It's clear that attention was paid to the technical aspects of the presentation. read more

This place is pretty special to Cambie Village. It's old and needs an upgrade but there's something nostalgic and cozy about it. The screen is huge and the popcorn (ask for fresh) is good. Glad to have this place in the neighbourhood. read more

I very rarely go to a movie theatre and when I do I expect I top-quality audiovisual experience. When I went to see Mandy last night, which is a totally immersive, colourful, psychedelic extravaganza, I was taken out of the experience, at the very climaxes of Johann Johannsen's transcendent score, by the overdriving of a faulty speaker to the upper left of the screen. Cineplex - you gotta keep the sound crisp and clear. Whether that means servicing the speakers or mixing the audio to suit the film better I don't know. read more

I love this theatre because you can raise the arm rests and it's less than 10 minutes from my house. What can I say, I'm bias towards geography. But please, Park Theatre, stop playing the King's Speech. We get it, it's a great movie (even the Oscars thought so), but even the brightest of stars must eventually die out. The King's Speech can't hold monopoly on the lone theatre forever, can it? read more

We came to the Park on Sunday to check out Alice in Wonderland. We stopped by an hour before the show to grab tickets since it was opening weekend and we weren't sure how busy it was going to be. The ticket seller let us know that they were expecting it to be busy so we should try to show up early to get a good seat. It was 3pm... the show was at 4pm, so we had breakfast and showed up at 3:57. Heh. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. I had to arm wrestle the BF into sitting in the corner with me, since he wanted to sit in the middle of the row near the front, but being the gothic bitch that I am , I forced him to sit in the corner with me like a loner. I LOVE LOVE LOVED the movie! And I can be critical of Tim Burton movies unlike the elite hard cores that even liked Ed Wood. The movie was in 3D, it was $13, and I would totally go see it again. I love our neighbourhood theatre! read more

I've always favoured smaller theatres to the giant impersonal multiplexes and their ability to make you strike terror in you for even thinking of bringing outside food or drink onto their premises. Despite all the changes and facelifts Vancouver has undergone in recent years, it's nice to see that some relics have survived. Park Theatre still holds the same charm. With only one theatre, the place is intimate and cozy. Films shown here are rarely of the blockbuster variety and usually have about as much quirkiness as Park Theatre itself. Hopefully, this theatre will survive the latest trend of purging of anything older than five years. read more

After discovering LaLa Land through the recent golden globes on TV, I decided to get tickets. The Park Theatre was the only place that offered showing for the time/date we were free. It was my first time there and was surprised to discover that there's only 1 theatre there! Its a small place with a unique character with the 70-80s ambiance, very different than other cineplex locations with a more trendier design. Upon entering, there's the ticket machine on the left for pickup, or purchasing from the cashier on the right. A little further aways is the concession stands. As there is no reserved seating, its best to find your seats before purchasing food. We arrived around 20 minutes beforehand and found that we didn't have enough time to get popcorn with the long lineup. Go early! Its a space that speaks history and glad they have been maintaining it well to preserve architectures with historical significance. I would definitely return for the next movie! read more

My favourite movie theatre in the city. It's old and has a nostalgic feel. It was the place where I watched my first movie as a kid so it's sentimental to be able to take my own kids there. I prefer the small, quaint feel to the huge ones with all the unbearable bright lights and the crazy sounds of video games. This is what a movie theatre should be. read more

The Park Theatre was built at Time when a Single Screen Theatre served as much as neighbourhood anchor as a Hollywood marketing hub. The Park shows mostly Art House style features. The kind of Pretentious films over educated people that live in area must get out the house to see. (PS I live in the area). I been going to The Met Opera in HD shows there. Today I saw Handel's Rodelinda. The Park's Screen is Large and it Sound System is Wonderful the Seats are comfortable and the staff is helpful. read more

One screen theatre, minimal line ups, and lots of free street parking around. Why fight with the crowds when you and your date can take a leisurely stroll along Cambie, grab some cheese from Benton Brothers next door, a porchetta sandwich from Pronto across the street, and enjoy the most out of each others' company instead? Part of the Festival Cinemas group, you can also buy the membership card which you can also use at the Ridge Theatre and Fifth Avenue Theatres. Concession at these theatres also have more reasonable prices, so you can munch on that hot buttered popcorn with more ease. 2/30; 30 Day Yelp Challenge read more

There's always room at the Park, and the seats are comfy. Parking on side streets is relatively easy to find...and since the theatre is on Cambie, it's pretty central for everyone. There are a ton of casual joints around the theatre for pre-show dinner, or post-show drinks. Plus, I love that it's not a huge multi-screen theatre, and that it's been around for so long. The concession has a good selection of baked goods, and tasty popcorn too. read more

What a great spot! I love living in a neighbourhoods that have this kind of offering. A single theatre, no frills experience, showing new releases. Kind staff, clean premises, great popcorn. Love this theatre. Thanks to all who make it happen. :-) read more

Back in Vancouver for a visit and wanted to see a movie or two at some old single-screen theatres of my "youth". Happy to find the Park still in business ... Bizarre-yet-efficient automated ticket kiosk right outside. I'd rather interact with an actual person (I'm not at a mall theatre after all). This place has always felt a little underloved, and that hasn't changed ... kinda forlorn lobby area. But the snack bar service was pleasant, the hot chai (a tea-of-the-something special) hot and delicious, and popcorn w. butter accomplished its job. Thank you, Park, for still being here for us! read more

Try not to be spoiled with cineplex and their many theatres on one place.... The Park is a wonderfully HUGE single theatre offering a wide variety of movies including "Its a wonderful life" which my boyfriend and I watched in December 2016 (I had never seen it and he said he'd only seen parts of it over the years). A gem of a place that I hope stays in business. read more

Park theatre is decent. Average, A-OK. Decent seating and sound. Average concession. For some reason I don't find myself here too often; not sure if it is the location, which isn't bad for me, or the selection of titles shown. *Review 397 / 365 personal challenge read more

I love the Park Theatre. They usually have a great selection of movies and play some of the "second run" films as well. We recently saw an excellent movie here and I would definitely come back. It always seems to be quiet, parking is fairly easy to find and I very much prefer it to the big theatres downtown or those terrible monstrosities in the 'burbs like Coquitlam and Langley. Ugh. All movie theatres should be like this. But then again, they probably wouldn't make much money if they are always empty. Maybe I need to purchase my own vintage movie theatre? I hope this theatre sticks around for a long time, especially now that we have lost most of the other "vintage" theatres in Vancouver. This trend of knocking down gorgeous buildings for condos makes me a sad panda. As if we need more bloody condos...I wish more folks would learn to appreciate these gems for what they are. We don't want condos - we want Batman. read more

Came here for The Hateful Eight in 70mm during the holidays. Sat in GG 18 and 19 next to the isle. There was an issue with the projection so they gave us free Movie vouchers for any Cineplex movie. Thoughtful customer service but I doubt I'll go back. I found their seating too far from the screen and the sound system wasn't the greatest. read more

I really like this theatre...it's small (only one theatre), cozy and the bathrooms are clean. It would be a great movie date venue rather than the impersonal multiplexes that are the norm. Being along the Canada Line route is a plus as well. Despite the limited movie selection, I would choose this theatre whenever they are playing a film I'd want to watch. read more

Seriously. Get some new movies in there. Great Beauty has been playing for... what... 4 weeks?

Like going back in time. The theatre is long and gently sloped, just like the old original theatre. Although the price is the same as a newly constructed theatre with better picture and sound, Park Theatre is worth it. Great place for a special date. Date rating: 4 out of 5. read more

Been living in the neighbourhood for ages but wasn't a big fan due to the movie selection. However, I have really noticed an improvement on the selection of movies lately. All the "big" movies I wanted to see lately were here. I always figure I can see most movies at home and save $, but I need the movie theatre experience for the big action type like the Avengers or the Hobbit. As a bonus the popcorn tastes better than cineplex :) read more

Still love this theater despite that fact that it is now a Cineplex owned theater. I don't think I'll ever go to another movie again, my experience at the Park Theater on Cambie on Tuesday night pretty much convinced me my interest in being inside a theatre has been eroded due to the pre-show solid social media garbage and advertisements one after the other after the other.. ... NEVER going here again. Management and staff are SO rude. My first time coming here and I came half an hour early to be the first to purchase tickets and reserve seats. The cashier lady told me after purchasing my tickets that i have to wait until the previous movie is done before going in to sit. There is only one theatre room so the previous movie finished and i went in and sat down. I had to come back out to give my ticket to my boyfriend and one of the staff told me we can't go back in and have to line up outside. Apparently, if you purchase tickets you have to line up in a separate line outside. The lineup was 100 people!!!! They wanted us to go to the very back even though they knew i had come first. And they were the ones who didn't tell me where I should have gone. Anyway, the manager also didn't do anything. And when i went to use the bathroom, I was scolded by the staff girl about where i was going..like i was a kid or something. We walked out and didn't even go to the movie. I get there needs to be a line up- but explain that to people! And you knew that i was there waiting by myself for half an hour before anyone else came. Just ridiculous. read more

If given the choice, I'll always pick seeing a movie at the Park rather than at any downtown multiplex. This single-screen theatre has plush seating, some nice things at the snack bar (chai, hot chocolate), and it's within walking distance to some good restaurants, cafés and a gelato shop. This theatre tends to show higher quality films, and in July and August they host the Francophone Movie Festival. I'd avoid the automated ticket kiosk in favour the buying a ticket from a person, but that aside, I love the Park. read more

I had the unfortunate experience of attending a 70mm screening of The Hateful Eight at the Park Theatre. It was one of the most infuriating experiences of my life, as the film was really good, but the Park Theatre seemed to be doing everything within its power to prevent me from enjoying it. First of all, either the brightness of the projector was set incorrectly or something was wrong with the screen as at times I could see through the screen to the wall behind it. This happened whenever there was a bright lightly coloured object on a dark background. The object could be seen twice, once on the screen, and another time on the wall, slightly offset and very noticeable unless you were fortunate to be sitting in the exact centre of the theatre. And then there was the focus. About an hour into the (three hour) film, the picture went extremely out of focus, but just in the centre third. The focus goes off in theatres all the time; it's a thing that happens and its usually quickly adjusted, but this situation was made worse by several factors. Firstly, I as seeing a 70mm presentation of the film. I had paid more money, for the promise of possibly the best quality projection of a film possible. Secondly, it was the worst loss of focus I have ever seen. The sides looked amazing, but the centre looked like I was watching it on YouTube with a dial-up connection. The picture would have been better if I watched a camcorder bootleg of the non 70mm version. And last but not least, it was never fixed. Not even after the intermission, during which I told the manager that the picture was out of focus. She told me that they had been trying to fix it and there was nothing she could do to fix the problem, but not until after suggesting that perhaps it was an "artistic choice by the director." Aside from the fact that it would make zero sense for Quentin Tarantino to spend huge sums of money presenting the film in 70mm if it was intentionally blurry, but it also shows that she knew there was a problem, but lied to me to try and convince me that there wasn't a problem. After the film ended the manager stood in the corner of the lobby and gave out coupons for a free movie to anyone who complained about the picture. Although the coupons was appreciated, I thought it was in bad taste that she stood out of the way and only gave tickets to those who complained. She should have been standing at the exit, handing them out to everyone in the theatre. And finally, I learned after going to the film that we were supposed to receive souvenir programs. Nobody received one. I wish I had known that at the time so I could have asked what happened (maybe the film studio didn't mail them?), but no mention was made, and a proactive apology would have been nice. Although the Park Theatre is comfortable, clean and plays good films, I will be avoiding it at all costs in the future after this experience, and if I really want to see a film in 70mm I guess a road trip to Seattle will be required. Even if they screw up the projection there at least I'll be able to bring back some cheap groceries. read more
