Unfortunately for people who may not be prepared like I was on a Sunday morning at 11am, I immediately cramped up and knew I couldn't continue with class (which was a bit crowded anyway). I asked for the instructor for some help and he guided me to foam roll my calf, but alas it was really bad - hard to tell if I simply didnt stretch or if I didnt have enough water beforehand. In any case typically the body conditioning is extreme for 30 minutes and then to a bit more technique on the various bags and rotating to one on one sparring. So generally instruction is good but more advice on stretching and reduction of injury would help. Lockers should be clipped as there always seems to none available. Cleaning is also very much needed as the floor is quite bad, spit buckets filled with trash. Bring your own towel (for sweat) and water bottle.

We were able to grab a 1-month deal of unlimited classes from our friend's CKO subscription email.  On our first class, we had a quick 5 minute tutorial on kickboxing moves. The instructors will continue on with the lessons but also keep an eye out for the beginners to help them with their moves. At first, it was difficult to keep up but as time went on, it became a bit easier to follow along. I definitely did lose some weight while I was here for 2 months and would come back again after trying other options.  For beginners, highly recommend you to take Kelly's classes! Her song selection is great and her classes are beginner friendly and you get to do a lot of freestyle so that is the perfect chance to practice and get your frustrations out on the bag.

There is no better gym in New York…read more Here you can not only find some of the most talented fighters in New York, but also friendly folks (both members and trainers assistants) who make it their goal to work with you to make you the best you can be. This gym also has a reputation for helping folks cut weight. I know many members who have lost 30 - 80 (yes, 80!) lbs here! I myself saw a max loss of 28 lbs. (202 down to 174 at one point.) Greg Ardon, the unassuming owner of this gym (known for his training of Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby), has a patient, quiet style that is combined with his extreme knowledge of fighting and a slick sense of humor. With that being said, the biggest lessons you learn here are modesty, self-confidence, and courtesy. These three things are more important than any bag you can hit, weight you can lift, or rope you can skip. I highly recommend you try this gym. 2011 Update: This gym is now officially a pro gym. That means they can train pro fighters, represent pro fighters, and their fighters can compete on a professional level, as well.

There have been a lot of changes…read moreover the last few years including them putting in boxing ring, creating a weight lifting area, they now have multiple fighters including one that is now in the UFC. Brandon teaches most of the classes but occasionally one of the fighters will teach - all good and they follow in his style. The gym also offers multiple classes for different levels - Muay Thai, Sparring, Clinch, Boxing, BJJ w Gi, BJJ no-gi, wrestling, and yoga (on Sundays). Whether you are a beginner, just training to be fit or to fight - EMT definitely a great place for you.

They taught some basic ideas about self defense which immediately just made sense to me. They taught some really good techniques to block punches, as well as different ways to throw punches and kicks (which are not what I'd naturally do). They had good mats, equipment, and protective gear to practice these techniques on other people (and I think that's important, as I don't believe that just practicing punching thin air is enough to help train yourself for a real fight situation). They also went over basic ways to try to calm situations down and try to avoid fights. It's a fairly small class (less than 15 students, I think) so you get a lot of individual attention. They were very clear and polite. I decided not to sign up for two reasons: 1. The prices were more than I personally could comfortably afford at this time (I don't wish to state the precise price here, myself, if it's not posted on their web site). 2. They have a rule that all students are required to wear masks at all times during practice. And although I respect caution for Covid, I personally feel that I need the freedom to breathe to the fullest whenever I'm exercising. But I otherwise loved this place a lot. I regret that those two above factors kept me from joining.
