Parking was easy, and the outdoor element of the mall was never a problem on a blustery day. They have most of the brand names, and their pricing is good. I was surprised because you wouldn't expect this kind of thing way out in Des Moines but there you go. The Kohl's here is really good, we love the selection, but the star of the show is the food court which has a bunch of locally-owned place, including Maid-Rite, as well as a good Tamale Place and a good gyro place and several others.

Strange that we received a Des Moines Discount pass to eat at that location and that is what is offered. Not really showing off the best of the area. There are spots that had activity but not enough for someone from out of the area to return to. This really needs help to make it an entertainment venue or something. Almost like a vendor fair setup as a full time business. It wasn't what I expected before we walked in, but I wasn't disappointed either. Staff greeted us when we walked in and was very pleasant at checkout. I left with some freeze dried candy and my girlfriend bought some holiday items. We'll be back.

With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!

Don't let strip mall placement fool you, this is the real deal. I had a strip steak sandwich with roasted veggies and a bomb aioli.my mom had something simple nut just as delicious nonetheless. Salads were nice and fresh and u can tell they make their own dressings.
