The only annoyance is the wifi as it keeps cutting out on me and I have to keep logging back in. I literally just received two email validation requests from the wifi provider some 45 minutes after I first logged in. Maybe I will get consistent wifi now but who knows anyway with coffee this good I can put up with it for a while.

Then I remembered that I updated my review to the new location. Anyway the coffee house serves up really wonderful coffees and the staff are always a mega friendly bunch. As I approached this morning I was trying to control a three year old and bags of shopping and he quickly came to help opening the door for me. I had my usual flat white which was superb and an ice cold sparkling water. My miniature companion was discerning enough to opt for a black currant drink and as I was paying he had already delved into the shopping and was sampling an M&S cookie. It's in the genes I say. It was a pre Christmas wet day here in North West England and this place was really inviting. They have an impressive selection of cakes and home made cheesecakes but it was savoury for the adults this morning. The kids, being kids opted for varieties of waffle. Some waffles were chocolate and banana based some were strawberries and cream - it turned out that the slightly under ripe banana was apparently optional - the 7 year old reckoned it could be left on the side. I ordered a mackerel omelette and it was delicious with the only issue being a cold plate. It was served with two pieces of bloomer which hopefully had butter. Cold plates don't work with hot breakfasts. My wife chose an off menu salmon omelette while junior opted for the full English breakfast which again was perfectly cooked. He chose fried halloumi as an extra. I tasted a piece and it was excellent. The coffees: flat white, cappuccino and junior's black were ace too. The welcome was friendly, the service very good but no excuse for cold plates with hot food.

How pretentious did that sound. They're very new, so that needs to be kept in mind - they might still have plans for the interior. I really want to support local small businesses but they have to be appealing to the locals. If they up the comfort factor and replace the furniture they'll be well on their way. Anyway, as a recent resident of Sale I decided to have a look inside Serendipitea - the name alone had me sold. Stepping in from the hustle of Washway Road it's an oasis of calm in there, sleek, clean yet homely. The owner was incredibly welcoming and we got to chatting, they've been open 10 months and business has been good. Whilst I was in there a steady stream of customers came in, some ordered and stayed, some ordered and took out. At first I was only feeling like a hot brew, so opted for an Earl Grey which was from Stash Tea Company - it tasted delicious, not had a tea hit me in such a satisfying way in a long time. Anyway, after that I decided to grab a light bite as well so went for their scrambled eggs on brown toast. It was absolutely delicious. They have an all day breakfast menu which I'd definitely be trying again more thoroughly. They also have freshly prepared baguettes, paninis, jacket potatoes - and cake. I've found my Central Perk.

Cookies, cakes cordials, ice cream sundaes too. The cordials were lemon and lime served with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint, which is grown in a pot on top of the narrow boat. They have a roving traders licence so they chug along the tow paths and tie up to trade. The long boat is diesel engine powered. I've not sailed one of these I usually hire the eleven foot wide fifty foot long boat at Silsden in West Yorkshire and it is a fun, great and sometime tiring holiday going through lock gates, through tunnels, under bridges and turning round only if you have to. If you haven't experienced this try it out its a unique way to holiday.

I was told the sausages were from Taylor's butchers Sale - a first class place - and they looked like it and having eaten a piece they tasted just great. Not many food miles here either. Two adults had various hot chicken dishes averaging about £8. I'm losing my habit of eating chicken so I opted for a sandwich & soup on the side. I could have had veggie chilli, or stew instead of soup. This came in about £7. The soup was 'of the week', and white onion & garlic. Oh magic words onions & garlic. Keep the chicken thank you very much. They offer thee sizes of most coffees. I had a flat white coffee (£2.5 - one size only). My wife had her usual cappuccino regular size. Both coffees were excellent. I don't know if their coffee is fair trade, organic or Rainforest Alliance, or source shade - grown from sustainable green beans as no information is provided here. My seeded soft bread roll sandwich had avocado, feta cheese, chilli jam, onion, rocket and other flavour punches. It was delicious. I'd liked to have butter on the sandwich too but so many places now serve that awful chemically manufactured substitute; margarine. The only e in butter is just before the r. So we all enjoyed our food and despite a lot of the customer base being under 12 it was calm and a reasonably quiet place. Mind you our 6 year old, despite insisting on curly fries, decided instead to polish off her granny's (not too) spicy fries, much to grandma's laughter, but fear not the other under 7 was only to willing to hoover up the residual curly fries. As it is family focussed it can get a bit rowdy and noisy on occasion so it's not the best location for a quiet coffee especially on the weekends. the cafe is a large open space with several nooks down one wall and a large open area where you order and a children's play area at the back and you order at the counter as well so there is no table service, they bring your order to you and will happily take orders for additional coffees etc. but you order and pay at the counter normally. The food is well made and the staff are always lovely. The real highlight of this location is the children's activity area where they can indulge their creative urges painting pottery or other similiar activities. There's always something going on. If you are looking for a cafe in South Manchester which is good for the family then you really can't beat this place. It isn't really ideal for couples or people without kids though purely because of the potential kids running around. But you are going in with this knowledge and there aren't enough places in Manchester that serves this demographic so they are really onto a winner.

So it's not so much beating your weapons into ploughshares but turning your banks into coffee shops. Well I suppose it's a good start. All we need Tim Hortons to do here and the other places they've opened in North West England is pay serving staff the living wage, and we'll all be good to go. Tickety boo. It's all part of ethical trading after all. Isn't it? Their coffee is fine with a deal on differing sizes of filter coffee starting at £1.29 but Starbucks filter is much better and portion by portion a far better deal when you factor in the Starbucks free refill. Hortons coffee is better than Greggs, which offers great food deals, but the coffee is not as good as the roughly 8 maybe more coffee bars all comparably priced within a five minute walk including Cafe Nero, Alexandros, Bianco, Costa, Bean & Brush and the Coffee house. I can get 2 junk food breakfasts in Greggs just across the street for less the price of one junk food breakfast in Horton's, but Greggs isn't as comfortable to sit in. Still I'll stick with Greggs when I want junk breakfast. A special mention for the mini donuts we bought in Hortons. They had a silly name like Timmies. It was a box full; maybe 10, 12 or 20, I don't remember but they were truly awful. I can't recall when I last had terrible tasting donuts, but I won't forget these for a long while. We bought them about 3pm just a few days before Christmas and they were stale, sugar stodge. So that's my one and only visit. Mr Tim Horton died by his own actions in 1974. Despite being a famous sports star and seemingly very wealthy he managed to flip the sports car he was driving under the influence of booze. He managed only to kill himself. He had opened his coffee store with a business partner (whose son later married one of Hortons daughters). The partner offered Mrs Horton a million bucks for her share of the business in 1974. She took it but years later she felt she'd not been paid enough (darn right - she should have negotiated 1% of annual turnover too) so she sued him and lost. That's the law for ya (3rd cousin twice removed from justice). Mrs Horton died in 2000.

I ambled in here on a showery Sunday mid morning as I needed good coffee. I had walked past a few other coffee places that seemed full and were noisy, even from the outside. I wanted a bit of peace. As I looked in the window here it was busy but there was room for one more. It was also peacefully quiet inside which was a bonus - placido domingo - quiet Sunday. It's a small cafe and sitting there almost felt like being in someone's living room. It has functional seating so it's not high up on the comfort and relaxation scale. I stood a short while at the serving counter while soon to depart customers paid up. I opted just for a flat white and paid up front so that I could depart as quietly as I arrived. The friendly server invited me to take a seat out of the one remaining table and he delivered my delicious flat white to me in a glass pretty quickly. I found the food menu inviting but as I was planning a good lunch I decided not to eat. I could see the home cooked food before other diners and it looked and smelled very good. As I sat I noticed one family near me had their pet dog under their table. Pooch was so well-behaved and I smiled that dogs are allowed. I suspect I'll be back here again, inshallah.

Sat myself in the sun-trap in the front bay window and happily slurped and munched my way through my order (table service was in effect). All in all a thoroughly lovely and local place to stop for a cuppa and cake. Tip: They have free wifi, just ask the staff for the password.

We were however lucky enough to stumble past the Barbeque coffee shop (apparently the sign is still up from the previous tenant- a meat shop) on a rainy Saturday afternoon. As you walk in past the fabulous brass roaster placed royally in the window, the wooden counter and tree trunk lampshades give a little twist on the usual third wave coffee shop, that I like. With retro tables and a second level with comfy chairs, I immediately felt relaxed and like this was a place that I would certainly be visiting frequently...if the coffee was good. And by jingo, it was. So good in fact that I had 2 of their flat whites. We also grabbed some home roasted beans to take home, and not only did we leave feeling warm and fuzzy from the coffee, but also from the feeling at supporting such a great local business.

Passion Fruit Coffee Roasters have been on the scene for a while appearing at lots of festivals and market stalls, but as far as I'm aware this is this first permanent store front. The focus here is on the drinks. They have a few tidbits like slices, cakes and lite bites style food, offering specials of the day. The place is done out in exposed brick, reclaimed wood and corrugated metal and there is a great feel that you've walked into their work space. The large roastery is set right in the window and their plank and construction frame shelving is used for equipment storage as well as selling their selection of beans (ground in store if required) and home brewing accouterments. There's some outdoor seating if the weather is fine and a window bench if it turns a little as Manchester is want to do. There's also a small seating area out the back if you want more privacy. This is likely to become a regular stop whenever I'm in Chorlton during the day, hell, I've already left work early once to stop by on the cycle home to grab a bag of beans before they shut at 5:30pm
