I arrived at Labor & Delivery in active labor after my OB had already been notified and instructed…read moreme to tell the front desk to contact him immediately because he was expecting me. I did exactly that. I repeatedly told staff my baby was coming, but I was told there was no room available. Then my water broke directly in front of the Labor & Delivery desk. I dropped to my hands and knees, screaming and crying in pain while my husband repeatedly begged staff to help me. I was not immediately examined, given a wheelchair, or taken for care. An off-duty nurse who heard my screams from outside the hospital came in, recognized the emergency, got a wheelchair herself, and rushed me toward triage. Because I had not yet been admitted, my husband could not come with me. When the elevator opened, I was in such advanced labor that I physically could not sit because my baby had descended into the birth canal. I crawled out of the elevator on my hands and knees. In triage, I removed my own soaked clothes and shoes, climbed onto the bed myself while shaking uncontrollably, and repeatedly screamed that my baby was coming. Despite staff being around me, I still was not immediately examined. One nurse asked my name, told me I was "doing okay," and walked away. It was only when another nurse realized my baby's head was already crowning that a physician was called to catch her. My daughter was born approximately eight minutes after my water broke. Thankfully, my daughter and I were physically okay, but that does not make this acceptable. I genuinely believed I was going to deliver my baby without medical assistance inside a hospital. The incident became known within my OB's practice. At my postpartum appointment, staff were already aware of what happened and referred to my delivery as a "horror story." I am sharing this because no woman in active labor should have to beg for medical attention while her baby is literally being born.

For nearly two years, I repeatedly expressed concerns to Dr. Bartzokis about my coronary calcium…read morescore of 620. My understanding is that a calcium score this high indicates significant plaque buildup, and I was concerned because the score itself does not identify where the blockages are located. Each time I raised my concerns, they were dismissed, with comments that he had patients with calcium scores much higher than mine. In April, while riding my bike, my smartwatch alerted me that my heart rate had reached 172 bpm. Initially, I thought the watch might be malfunctioning, but I did not feel well. Two days later, while simply walking, my heart rate rose to 148 bpm. Concerned, I immediately contacted my primary care physician, who saw me the same day. After performing an EKG, he diagnosed me with atrial fibrillation, prescribed Eliquis and medication to control my heart rate, and strongly advised me to see my cardiologist as soon as possible. I contacted Dr. Bartzokis' office but did not receive a return call. The following morning, I called again and was told to come into the office around 11:00 a.m. A nurse performed another EKG, which happened to be normal at that moment. I explained that I had recently been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, was experiencing chest pain, did not feel well, and remained extremely concerned about my calcium score. The nurse told me she would ask Dr. Bartzokis to come in and see me. She returned with a heart monitor and informed me that he was too busy and that I should come back in a week. While she was attaching the monitor, I again emphasized that I had recently been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, had chest pain, and had been expressing concerns about my elevated calcium score for two years. She again said she would speak with him. When she returned, she once more informed me that he was too busy to see me. Two nights later, my smartwatch alerted me that my heart rate had reached 148 bpm while I was sleeping. The following morning, it remained around 142 bpm. My wife drove me to the emergency room, where I was immediately admitted to the hospital. After evaluation, I underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure. The results revealed two significant blockages: one at 90% and another at 70%. Two stents were required. I was informed that the 90% blockage involved a major coronary artery often referred to as the "widow-maker." What is most upsetting to me is that I sought help repeatedly. I reported atrial fibrillation, chest pain, elevated heart rates, and longstanding concerns about a high calcium score. Despite these warning signs, I was never seen by Dr. Bartzokis during that urgent visit because he was reportedly too busy. I cannot overstate my disappointment with the lack of urgency, concern, and communication I experienced. Based on my personal experience, I do not feel that my symptoms were taken seriously, and I cannot recommend this practice to others seeking responsive cardiac care.

On my first ever visit to a cardiologist and to Dr. Schechter, he ordered a PET scan in his office…read more On the day of the scan I was called in 45 minutes after my appointment time. Before going into the machine I had my shirt up to my neck while the technician was concentrating on untangling the wires to attach to my chest. Suddenly the door burst open and two employees came in looking for some table. They had propped the door open and I could see through the waiting room and out the windows into the parking lot. They engaged me and the technician in conversation while she was concentrating on taking care of me. She should have asked them to leave and close the door. I found this to be very unprofessional. When I returned to the office for my follow-up, I never saw Dr. Schechter (I would have told him about this). A nurse took my vitals and a nurse practioner came in to tell me "every thing fine". That took 60 seconds. I asked for a copy of my test results and was directed to get them at the front desk. At the front desk I was told they could not copy my tests results because the office manager was out of the office and they did not have the password. They promised to email them to me the next day. We will see. I found this also to be unprofessional. I will not be going back.
