Street parking was also free & easy to find on a overcast Saturday night. We enjoy the scenic drive going leading to the beach. We also did some boardwalk walking & saw some guys fishing. There's a large parking area with lots of parking space which is a convenient. When you come into the reserve it's off of the highway. The an entrance which is one way in and then the exit on the opposite end of the lot which is one way out. The only drawback from me was that there were a number of people in the park with their dogs unleashed and the dog should be leashed . Which makes it difficult and unnerving for a runner to see a dog come out and not see the owner close by.

The parking lot is big and there is a bathroom, which is appreciated. I took a look at the trail map before I left to find one of a decent length, so check out options, but the trails are well-marked. Once you get past the main train next to the lake, you can find yourself pretty alone except for another occasional hiker, but you can vibe with nature, see a waterfall, and just breathe in the fresh air. Some of the trails are long, but I paced one that was only a couple of miles and still got some nice scenery and a lot of steps in. It's great this park isn't too far from the urban areas of Northern NJ and there are many trail options so you can visit again and experience something new. There's also a sign for trout fishing if that's your thing. Check it out if you want to get away for the day.

Great Beach!…read more Beautiful beach with clear water and pet friendly. I wanted to take my dogs to a clean beach for a while and I decided to go to Sandy Hook Beach. It was a wonderful experience. The recreation center is huge, miles and miles of beach, park, lake, and trails. Pets and their owners may visit bayside beaches throughout the year. Pets are only allowed on oceanside beaches from September 15-March 15. Pets are not permitted on oceanside beaches during the spring and summer, but you can still take them to the parks, trails and other areas. We went in October and entrance was free, we parked near the beach, and we spent a wonderful day.

Parking is charged between Memorial and Labor days, no dogs on the beach between March 15 to September 15 due to piping plover nesting season. Reasonably good facilities at the main parking lots (A-F). Fees are collected from 8 AM to 6 PM so if you arrive early, no charge. ($20/day and $100 for a season).

I love how there are showers and bathrooms, not that far from the beach. The only thing is I wish there weren't that many rocks on the sand. I don't remember that being like that last year. I remember last year the sand was very smooth and soft. Also, there aren't a lot of seashells anymore, only ROCK! Which is a disappointment. Overall I love coming here it's a beautiful clean beach!

We've already been here twice. 2 hours cost $35 which is reasonable pricing. The lake is super nice and relaxing and you can go for a quick swim as well. The workers are also really nice and not strict on the reservation times. For safety, they also sanitize the boards and life jackets after every use.
