Beware of level of stylist you choose. I have always felt this was a high end salon, so when I got scheduled with a newer stylist, I felt comfortable. I walked out after 3.5 hours with one color highlight and barely a haircut. My hair is still crispy fried 2 months later, I had another stylist at another salon tell me I am just going to have to grow it out and it is beyond repair. I don't want to mention the stylist's name, because hopefully she will improve over time, but no more practicing on my hair. read more

Let me start by saying I work in the spa industry and I have had many facials before, this was my first time at Par Exsalonce though. My friend and I were planning a much needed spa day and booked there thinking we would have an amazing experience due to the reputation in Overland Park and the price charged. We arrived 35 mins early for our facial appointments to fill out paperwork and get changed. Sat in the relaxation area for a bit then my friend got taken for hers. I expected to get picked up anytime since she just did, but I sat for another 5 mins before getting picked up. When in the room Paige asked me my skin care routine, I told her and mentioned some extractions I needed around my lips due to wearing a mask at work. She said she understood and began cleansing my face. She never used a light to look at my skin and see what she thought was a good plan of action, or a steamer to make extractions easier, exfoliation better, and pores more ready to absorb the products. Things that I have had done at EVERY facial I've ever gotten. During my 60 min facial she also massaged my arms and feet, which while nice, I would've preferred more attention to my face. I could tell we were getting to the end and asked her to get the extractions by my lips. She finally flipped on a light and got one on top of my lip but said the ones on my lower lip were too small and not ready. They were puffy and bothering me the night before but left them for the facial, to someone trained to get them with minimal irritation. Then she took me back to the locker room to change. At lunch after, my friend and I compared facials and I found out hers was completely different than mine. She had her face looked at under the light, steam put on her, given a plan to see if she was ok with it, and had an overall great facial. The kind of facials I've always had previously. The next day at work I had a coworker put steam on me and she did the extractions I didn't get done at Par Exsalonce the day before. She said they took a little more effort to get, but could be gotten. I called to talk to the manager but she wasn't available so I emailed her a very detailed account of my experience. Instead of calling me to try and talk about what could be done to make it right, she emailed me a very basic reply of I'm sorry, you started on time, steam isn't used on everyone, extractions were done, and offered me 20% off on a future service. Why would I go back for a discounted service if this is what my 1st experience was like. I wouldn't have gotten the extraction I got if I hadn't asked her to do it a 2nd time. I felt like she completely disregarded my experience and made excuses for what experience I did have. Part of me feels like she didn't even look into the issue other than looking at notes in my file. I don't recommend visiting Par Exsalonce unless you are prepared to be let down and your feelings disregarded. read more

My appointment was cancelled because of an error on the salon's behalf. Someone took my phone number down incorrectly (Lyn?) last Thursday, and during the confirmation calls on Monday they canceled my Tuesday [aug 2 at 1:00] appointment. My first question is what software system are you using? I walked in, my time scheduled off and my roots needing help, for my 1:00 balayage with Alyssa, and surprise, I don't have an appointment. Holly came from the office, explained the situation, and I understand mistakes happen...but I was a referral and a new client to your team. This is your first impression. Capturing phone and email addresses correctly should be a baseline. Explaining it can't be rectified because it's your busy season is hurtful to me, quite disrespectful of my time and money. An offer of 15 percent off is nearly condescending. I've never experienced this level of unprofessionalism from aveda, nor been in this situation from a salon, period. They would not honor my gift card that had a substantial amount on it due to the fact that it was expired . The card was purchased right before Covid happened and I was unable to get back to use it until now . I have been a loyal par exsalonce customer for the last 5 years. I used to live in the North Kansas City and the parlor at zona rosa location was really good. The staff was great and really cared about the quality of services. the overland park location is not the same. They lack in the basic customer care sensibilities like smiling and asking about the service. I had a lot of services done there in the last 2 years and have been disappointed with most of them. My last service was for a hair appointment- root touch up with highlights. The touch up faded away in a week. I called and someone said that I can come and they will take a look at it but then when I went there they said that I will be charged for the full service again! They didn't even care to give me a discounted price or anything and didn't even apologize or acknowledge that the service wasn't done properly. I'm not going back again. read more

Probably one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten. Called and asked for an advanced stylist who specialized in thick curly hair, they recommended Maria. I'm not sure if Maria was having a bad day, but she didn't speak one word to me outside of asking what I wanted and didn't respond when I tried to make conversation with her. That's fine, I came for a haircut not for small talk but I was a little thrown off. I asked for a mid length hair cut with layers to take some weight out. Before I knew it she had used the thinning scissors so much I hardly had any hair left. She never sectioned my hair and seemed to be focusing on creating a layer that was nearly at the top of my head. I was left with random, uneven, unblendable layers and hair so short I can no longer tie it back. When I asked her to even out the layers she just took the thinning scissors out again. Instead of face framing layers she cut giant chunks out of my hair next to my chin. Looks like I'll be pinning my hair back for the next few months until it's at least long enough to tie back. Thank you at least to the manager who refunded me immediately upon seeing me and hearing what happened. read more

I was a regular for that kind of stuff about 7 years ago when I had a fully up-and-running business and I could enjoy the full fruits. Now, 5 years into my startup, with some rewards finally accruing, I was back to this ritual which is a must for many women, but is an absolute luxury for men. Love going to this spa and salon. I've been going for years. I get my hair cut and facials/messages. The salon is great because if you don't have a preferred stylist you can select based on your price range. All the stylist are great. You also can choose a complimentary service while getting your hair cut. I enjoy the scalp massage. The spa is fantastic! Every masseuse and esthetician I've had is knowledgeable and very clean. I loved getting prenatal massages when I was pregnant. My favorite with the spa is the quiet room and foot soak you get before you're treatment. My only reason I'm giving Par Excellance 4 out of 5, is the ladies locker room and showers need to be updated. Everything is very clean, but old. The spa was recently repainted; I wish they would spend some time updating the sauna and showers. I always leave feeling relaxed and can't wait to return. read more

I loved my experience at Par Exsalonce on College Boulevard for a Mint Body Wrap. Other than not being acknowledged immediately when I arrived, everyone was extremely helpful. I loved the foot bath in the relaxation room and the cucumber water while waiting for my treatment to begin. Courtney Ford was my treatment provider and she was excellent. I wrote down that I didn't like talking during my treatment and she was very thoughtful to keep it quiet and explained the treatment all at the beginning. All areas were clean and inviting and my treatment also included the steam shower afterwards which was a nice bonus. I would highly recommend this spa as well as Courtney. She stated in addition that she could see that I also had an appointment in Zona Rosa for the following day (27) and that she would go ahead and cancel that for me since I didn't bother to show up today. All without ever speaking to me. Why someone would schedule 2 services, on two consecutive days, at 2 different locations is beyond me. Very clearly a mistake. I have been here twice - once for a massage and the second for a haircut! My massage was spectacular! The atmosphere, steam shower, and massage whisked me away into a true, stress free environment. I felt like I had escaped for a little while. My massage therapist was attentive to the areas of concern and debriefed with some tips and tricks to carry me forward. I'm looking forward to my next trip to the spa! The studio was very thorough and friendly In explaining and showing all of the precautions they have in place to ensure guest safety. Haley cut my hair, and did an exceptional job! I showed Haley some pictures and shared my hopes from my haircut. She listened carefully, and was able to achieve just what I wanted! So, tonight my hair caught fire while teaching science to underprivileged youth. (No, I'm not lying, I seriously doubt I could make up an intro that good.) I needed a haircut and I needed it fast. Fortunately, this Aveda salon is open until 9. I left the scene of the disaster by 7 p.m., was in the chair by 8, and had relatively unscathed hair by 9. A really sweet stylist named Norbi had the "honor" of trying to save the fried disaster that was my head. She did a great job, and we had a lovely chat about Columbia (the country, where's she's from), traveling (we both enjoy seeing how the locals live), and how to get the scorched chicken smell out of burned hair. I'm not even sure my experience deserves a single star but I'll give it one for even attempting to "fix" the splotchy blunt highlights I received. I am a very easy going individual. Simply requesting Carmel and light blonde high and low lights throughout. Easy right? My first service ($130) - I received splotchy (actual lines scattered horizontally) throughout my head and toned to be grey ash. Even though I asked for Carmel.... Second service (fix) - break up the obvious lines and make it look more natural, I'll just deal with the color. Third service ($200) - asked for dimension throughout...top of my head is black and a solid "ombré" line to white grey. Again... I asked for light blonde and Carmel with natural dark brown weave throughout. They do not give refunds, only offer a "fix". My "fix" only made the situation worse. My best friends mother is a hair dresser with Redken and said she'd rather be arrested than pay for what they did to my hair. I've never actually gotten my hair done here, but for several years I got pedicures every month with Colleen. She also waxed my yeti hair and gave me facials. The BEST thing about this place is the pedicures. The chairs recline back so that you're almost laying down, they give you a blanket and a warm neck wrap that smells like cookies. Along with some cucumber water, the low lighting, and pleasant music, it's an hour of ultimate relaxation. Colleen is the ABSOLUTE best pedicurist there. She gives the most wonderful massages, I would go just for that and forget the rest of the pedicure. Going there once a month was my little treat, my one luxury and I looked forward to it all month. The waxing/facial rooms are private, clean, dark, smell nice, and they play nice relaxing spa music. Unfortunately, there are a couple of negatives, which is why I don't go anymore. For the number of years I was a regular...and I'm talking EVERY month for at least 3-4 years...I can't tell you how many times the scheduling people messed up my appointments. There were times I'd show up and they would have me with the wrong person, or not scheduled at all. I would bring friends and the times would be all screwed up. I was always stressed showing up there when I wasn't sure about my appointment. Especially since I had to drive quite a ways to get there. I wisened up over time, though, and began making future appointments while I was there. I would have the next 3-4 appointments made and secured before I left. If I had to call in and make an appointment, though, odds are it wouldn't be right when I got there. The price was too much for me in the long run. My Spa Glow pedicure cost $66...add tip and an eyebrow wax ($25) and I wasn't getting out of there without spending over $100. I hit a point where I just couldn't afford to spend that much anymore and found a place within walking distance to where I live that's half that cost. They don't have the ambiance, the chairs, and more important COLLEEN...but it's lighter on my wallet so luxury has to be sacrificed. Boo! I still try to go a couple times a year as a big treat for myself. I really miss the service and me-time. Leaving there, I always felt like a puddle of goo and that I'd been on vacation where I got scrubbed and polished and pampered. Sooo nice. read more

I've been getting massages at Par Exsalonce for years. From the foot bath in the relaxation room with cucumber water in hand to the fantastic steam shower, every experience has always been wonderful. I NEVER submit reviews. This may be my first ever on Yelp. The spa staff went above and beyond for me this week. I went in for a facial with Carilyn. It was magnificent, even with all the extractions. :) I felt great after my facial. Left the spa only to realize that my favorite necklace was still in the pocket of my spa robe. I frantically called and spoke to Lynn at the reception desk. She and Carilyn turned the salon upside down looking for my necklace. She must have called me 5 times in just a few hours. She even let me go in and search the locker room area for myself. To no avail. A few hours later, as I was drowning my sorrows in a cocktail, I got another call. Lynn had found my necklace in the lint trap of the linen dryer!!!! I was elated!! I went in the next day to pick up my necklace and give Lynn a bottle of wine for all her efforts. She told me that while she had found it, Carilyn had spent some time taking knots out of the chain for me. Is that customer service or what?! Thank you, Par Exsalonce. Bre is phenomenal! I am going to California for work in a few days, and I got a really bad haircut at another salon. I asked for an angled bob (I even showed him a picture of how my hair used to look when I had that cut), but he gave me a 1950s pageboy. I looked like Lancel Lannister from Game of Thrones, no joke. I went to Par Exsalonce, and Bre worked a miracle. She was able to almost give me the angle I wanted (he cut it so short that it was almost impossible), and she textured it so that it was not poofy at all (like his cut was). Ive had facials at the Zona Rosa location and loved every one of them. But I NEEDED a massage, so I went here because it is way closer and I was able to get an appointment right away. I loved that they tell you to come 30 min early. Some places just say come at your appointment time, then take massage time while you get ready. Nope, not here. I immediately felt relaxed as I put on my robe and was led to my foot bath. Other reviewers said that the foot bath room can be noisy with the attendants going in and out, but I went first thing in the AM on a Monday, so I guess that has a lot to do with it. My massage was by Ruby, who is a cupcake and too pure and wonderful for this world! She was very friendly and really takes the time to get to know her clients. She gave me excellent "homework" to help me work on my back and neck areas. I loved her so much, I booked a 90 min session with her in a few weeks! read more
