I was brought here by my hosts on a recent business trip. The venue was comfortable, bright, cheery, and clean. The restaurant sits on a corner, and large open doorways face each street. With the traffic sounds, and loud music, it's not by any definition a quiet place.
As expected, the menu is in Spanish, with very few photos. My hosts ordered the Molcajete for four (see my photo). There were only three of us, and we only got halfway through it... it's easily enough for six!
Molcajete... wow! This is like fajitas in USA, but on steroids! This is my new favorite Mexican food. Molcajete is actually the name of the large stone bowl the food is served in. It is carved from volcanic rock, and traditionally shaped to resemble a pig. The bowl comes to the table sizzling hot. The Molcajete consisted of 4 kinds of meat; steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo (Mexican sausage), Queso Fresca (Mexican cheese), and 5 kinds of vegetables, one of which is nopales (cactus with the spines removed).
The price for this dish for 4 was very reasonable at 420 pesos ($24 USD).
I will definitely ask to come back to Par de Ases on any return trips to Mexico City! read more
